First details on the future Jaguar XF hybrid
 
As previously reported, Jaguar has been working to develop a hybrid model in response to the growing awareness for the environment, and the growing profit that will surely follow. At a Low Carbon Vehicle event in Millbrook, Jaguar presented a British-engineered flywheel hybrid XF that is rumored to come with an increase of 80 HP and a 20% fuel improvement. The prototype comes with the Flywheel Hybrid System for Premium Vehicles (FHSPV) and is the result of a collaboration between British engineering specialists Flybrid Systems, Torotrak, Xtrac, and Prodrive, with some input from Ricardo. The composite flywheel is driven through a Torotrak/Xtrac CVT gearbox and can reach 60,000 rpm. The power to the wheel is controlled through a computer. Along with the flywheel technology, Jaguar is also testing a start/stop system to collect the lost energy and reuse it upon start up. This will allow for fuel economy savings of up to 20%. Project’s engineer Daniel Loftus said at the event: "The FHSPV is really an engineering due diligence exercise. We need to look at mechanical flywheels and see how they compare with electric hybrids. And then see if they have a production future." In order for the Jaguar to carry the hybrid system, which weighs in at only 65 kilos, the company had to do away with about a quarter of the spare wheel well. However, the good news is that the system will also be suitable for the bigger and heavier vehicles in Jaguar’s family. This project talks the talk to a tune of about £3 million, with £2.2m coming from the government’s Technology Strategy Board. After the XK Coupe 75th Anniversary Edition and the XKR 75 Special Edition, Jaguar continues its 75th anniversary celebration with the unveiling of a third special edition: XF V8 75th Anniversary, this time for the Australian market. Like with the other two models, the XF V8 75th Anniversary will be limited to only 75 units, each carrying a price tag of $128,900. This special edition adds a ton of features over the standard model. These features include standard 20" alloy wheels and exhaust pipe finishers, leather seats and steering wheel, knurled aluminum and real wood veneer trim, and phosphor blue halo lighting combining to create a welcoming, enveloping environment for driver and passengers. The Jaguar XF V8 75th Anniversary Edition has an extensive list of standard features, including 8 way electric seats, keyless start, automatic climate control, and cruise control. A week ago we reported that Jaguar was planning a coupe and a station wagon version for the current XF sedan. Jaguar CEO Ralf Speth said: "the Jaguar XF shows we can compete…we need more vehicles in that family". Of course with that type of news, the internet was abuzz with folks trying to figure out what these two versions would look like. The photo here is a rendering of the future XF Coupe. The XF Coupe will be revealed in 2011 and will carry over all the details from the sedan, including the diesel S engine and the S/C 5.0 liter lump. There is also a possibility for the coupe to get the new 4.4 liter TDV8 we expect to see in the Jaguar XJ. But before the coupe version graces us with its presence, we will see the XF Station Wagon unveiled at the Paris Auto Show. We received a rendering of the station wagon version about two years ago which just proves how long this presentation has been discussed. A roadster version is also a possibility. It seems that everyone is talking about Jaguar’s future. First, we found out that the company confirmed the F-type roadster and new small sedan, but we also discovered that this decision put the long rumored Jaguar supercaron hold. Today, the British press suggested that Jaguar will also be developing a station wagon and coupe version for the XF luxury sedan. Of course, we have heard this story many times before so we will just have to wait and see if this one pans out. It seems that the XF sedan is a very successful model on the market and Tata wants to take full advantage of all of this success and cover a market as large as possible. Both new versions will be powered by the same engines as the sedan: a 4.2-liter 400 hp supercharged V8 (possibly an 500 hp "R" version will appear in the future). 2010 Jaguar XF Diesel S Police Car
Bad guys, watch out! The new Jaguar XF Diesel S is under patrol! Seven Jaguars were chosen by the Central Motorway Police Group to patrol in Staffordshire, Mercia and the West Midlands. The Jaguar was chosen due to its fuel economy (42mpg), CO2 rating (179 g/km), and residual value retention (80% after 1 year/14K and 45% after 3 years/60K). The police car features: roof mounted light bar with 3600 blue flashing lights and integrated side alley lights, blue and white flashing LED lights inside the front grille, side mounted blue flashing LED lights, blue and red flashing LED lights integrated in the rear light clusters and a Home Office-specification electronics ’Police pack’. Yeah, that’s a lot of lights. The Jaguar XF Diesel S is powered by a 3.0-liter AJ-V6D Gen III diesel engine that delivers 275 hp. The Diesel S accelerates from 0-60mph in just 5.9 seconds, while top speed is limited to 155 mph. Out in the wild, jaguars are considered to be one of the most cunning and agile among all of its big cat brethren. That being said, it pretty much goes without saying that if car brand is named after that particular cat, you would expect that it would have, at the very least, some of the qualities of the animal it was named after. You just don’t become ’Jaguar’ by being as slow as a turtle and as heavy on the feet as a drunken belly-buster on a Friday night. Jaguar’s Chief Engineer of its Vehicle Dynamics division, Mike Cross, will show you that with this name comes performance. In this video, Cross takes the new Jaguar XFR on a test run around a race track while in the middle of a torrential downpour. Cross was joined by Car Magazine editor Ben Barry as they brave the rain and the slippery conditions to test out the brand’s new saloon. While we are all well aware of just how great of an automobile that the Jaguar XFR really is, the luxury car builder has announced details about an upcoming alternatively fueled model of the XF sport sedan for 2011 that brings the same high performance attitude and upscale amenities of the top of the line version into a new diesel burning four door dubbed the XF S. The XF S is powered by a 275 HP diesel mill that promises not to disappoint drivers thanks to the Jag’s Adaptive Dynamics system, a unit that is currently featured on the XFR and XK that constantly adjusts the suspension to improve handling without giving up an ounce of comfort. The result improves on the XF’s already impressive handling and strikes a clever balance between a luxury ride and sports car agility, which will be an option on the high performance diesel. The exterior of the new Jaguar XF S can be upgraded with a new aerodynamics package similar to the XFR’s which includes black mesh grill inserts, horizontal blades across the lower air intakes and bolder side skirts. Meanwhile the interior features upscale touches like high gloss Piano Black veneer and a Jet Suedecloth headliner that is available as an option on Premium Luxury and Portfolio Diesel S models; ensuring that you don’t have to give up style and luxury just to be green. The 2010 Jaguar XFR is simply the best sports car value on the market today. Don’t be fooled by the vehicle’s four door appearance because this factory tuned hot rod is anything but an ordinary sports sedan. The vehicle offers unmatched levels of performance, style and luxury. Staring off, the car’s 5.0 Liter supercharged V8 that pumps out 510 HP allowing the XFR to rocket to 60 MPH from a standstill in just 4.7 seconds. Next our XFR’s Aero Performance Design bodywork is covered in a very attractive Indigo Blue metallic paint and is made to look even better with the large 20 inch Nevis wheels. We thoroughly enjoyed our opportunity to get to know the XFR intimately, just being behind the wheel made our test editors giddy with excitement. Just knowing that there is so much power at your disposal is enough to put a grin on any gear head’s face. The XFR is an incredible performance machine that is capable of mind numbing speeds while still maintainging the elegance and presence that comes standard with any Jaguar.
