The eighth and final round of the NZ Offshore Powerboat Race, Inex Metals Offshore Powerboat Championship will be held this Saturday afternoon on Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour, under the city’s iconic Harbour bridge. The fifteen lap, 100-mile race will see the cream of New Zealand’s offshore powerboats go head to head as they all chase overall and class honors.

The course will be similar to last year with the boats starting up the western end of the harbour, passing Watchman Island to the port side and heading under the bridge towards a buoy at the entrance of Westhaven (off Wynyard Wharf), turning and heading back up the harbour, passing Fisherman Wharf to its starboard side and towards the turn buoy off Kauri Point.

The majority of the race boats will be on display from mid Friday afternoon at the Viaduct and on public display on Saturday morning down at Westhaven Reserve under the bridge from 8am until they are launched. A range of pre-race entertainment will be held with Thundercat racing and demonstration from 10.30 am and a plane display from 12.30 before the main race gets under way at 1 pm.
