The Targa 40 is powered by a couple of twin engines from 620 hp to 700 hp. You can choose one of the two power options: the two 310 hp each Volvo Penta D6-310 EVC Diesel and you’ll ride the waves at 38 knot; or the two 350 hp each Volvo Penta D6-350 EVC Diesel and you’ll reach a top speed of 38 knots. In the engine room you have enough space around the twin Volvos, generator and hot-water assembly.
The Targa 40 is about sport even the design of the hull. The low profile lines, a big wrap-around windscreen, the navy hull, teak decking and chic blue-and-white striped canvas sun pads create a sporty boat for sporty people.
Fairline paid a lot of attention to detail on the Fairline Targa 40. The decks are made for cruising comfort. The teak-laid transom comes with a central boarding ladder in a locker and a handy aft sun pad. There are dedicated storage holds for the fenders and a wide hatch into the engine room.
An interesting thing about the Targa 40 is the garage. Lifting on a hydraulic strut, the sun pad reveals a hold where you can store an 8.85 ft. Fairline RIB. An electric winch and keel rollers helps you to single handed launch and recovery the RIB.
The captain of the Targa 40 rides on a neat little bench seat with a folding base, so he can drive standing up. The copilot shares a three person lounge to port. The access to the foredeck is made easy thanks to molded steps, non-skid decks, a bow rail which traces the wide and flat side decks, and low-profile grab rails alongside the foredeck sun pad.
In the master cabin you will find a 6 ft. & 6 in. x 5 ft. & 3 in. central double berth, access to en-suite shower/toilet, wardrobe, high level cupboards, chest of drawers under end of double berth, dressing table and vanity lockers, ceiling lights, escape hatch to forward deck, twin opening portholes with fly screens and a mirror.
The toilet/ shower room has a separate hot and cold shower with rotating screen, automatic shower tray pump-out system, shower extractor fan, sea toilet, hand basin, 240 volt shaving point, halogen ceiling lights, opening porthole with fly screen, full set of bathroom fittings, high and low level lockers, mirror and a teak and holly floor.
In the galley you’ll find a ceramic hob, microwave and grill, refrigerator, sink / drainer with mixer tap, extractor fan, sink and hob covers, opening porthole with fly screen, pull out drinks cabinet, halogen lighting, fire extinguisher, cupboards and crockery stowage, cocktail bar and galley front rail.
The saloon has a headroom of 6 ft. & 4 in, a U-shaped dinette converting to 6 ft. & 4 in. x 3 ft. & 9 in. double berth, dining table converts to cocktail table and adjustable for height, stowage lockers under dinette seating, high level lockers, opening portholes with fly screens, sliding door to cockpit, halogen ceiling and reading lights, deck hatch, stereo radio/cassette player, under floor storage and first aid kit.
The Fairline Targa 40 has the responsiveness of a sports car. It is a joy to drive it! The deep-V hull forms are justifiably renowned for wave-chomping feistiness.
