Developed with the serious angler in mind, the 31 Tournament Edition is the ultimate fishing rig in its class. This boat initiated Fountain’s domination of blue water fishing tournaments. Anglers sporting a 31 Tournament Edition have won more SKA World Championships than with any other boat in the world.
Engine
31 Tournament Edition (engine)
You need power and speed to follow the fishes? The Fountain Powerboats engineers thought about that and they made the 31 Tournament Edition fast enough to satisfy your needs. For example: equipped with a pair of 225 Mercury Optimax engines, this boat runs over 60 mph - fully loaded. But that’s not the only engine that can be mounted on the Fountain Mercury 31 Tournament Edition. Like usual the Fountain powerboats comes whit a large area of Mercury engines you can choose from. I think that’s a great idea. Why do I have to buy a boat whit a let’s say a 150 hp engine when I want something more powerful. So you can chose from ten Twin Mercury engines: tree Optimax engines whit 150, 175 and 225 hp, two Optimax XS engines whit 250 and 300 hp, or five Verado engines whit 150, 175, 250, 275 and 300 hp.
Exterior
31 Tournament Edition
Fountain is one of the only manufacturers that uses high density foam, Interplastic vinyl ester resins, mulit-directional fiberglass and laminates its hulls and decks together creating a unitized process that is race course proven, and they didn’t make a exception when they built the 31 Tournament Edition. The design of the hull makes this boat extremely stable, steady at trolling speeds and well-equipped for the tough trips.
Interior
31 Tournament Edition (cabin)
The 31 Tournament Edition has everything a fisherman needs: heavy-duty trim tabs, hydraulic steering, complete instrumentation, a 400-quart insulated fish box with overboard drains, 50 gallon round above-deck circulating live well, rod holders and a self-bailing inner liner. Don’t worry if you’re unlucky and you didn’t catch any fish because the 31 Tournament Edition has a spacious forward cabin that provides overnight accommodations with a cozy V-berth and a portable head.
Test drive
31 Tournament Edition
The strong points of a Fountain boat are style, construction and performance. The 31 Tournament Edition is extremely stable, steady at small speeds and equipped for a fast ride. Comparing the 31 Tournament Edition with other rival fishing boats of the same length the 31 is up to 20 mph faster. The setback transom of the stern allows the boat to operate very well in less turbulent waters but the sharp V hull makes it a little difficult to drive in rough conditions even thaw it cushions the ride. The weight of the boat – 5,800 pounds – gives a perfect stability to the ride. The control of the boat is perfect, even the hard turns are handled easily.
Conclusion
The Fountain Mercury 31 Tournament Edition will definitely give you great pleasure on your fishing trips. Maybe the design needs some improvements but the performance and the construction of this boat makes it a superior product. Who cares about the design when he wants to have some fun fishing whit his friends? I know I don’t.
