The Fountain Mercury 38 Lightning is the end result of decades of supremacy on the world’s race courses. Definitely the first think that will attract your attention is not going to be the 2007 new design or the new features but the performance.
Engine
38 Lightning (engine)
The Fountain recommends for its 38 Lightning model a Twin Staggered Mercury 525 EFI w/Bravo 1-XR/SSM/ITS engine, but like usual they provided three optional power options. So if you want more power you can choose one of the following engines: Twin Mercury 425 HP 496 MPI MAG w/Bravo I-XR/SSM/ITS; Twin Mercury 600 SCI w/Bravo I-XR/SSM/ITS, or my favorite Twin Mercury 700 SCI w/NXT #6 drives. The last engine really “transforms” the 38 Lightning in a “rocket”.
Exterior
The exterior of the 38 Lightning is not different from the classical design used by Fountain Powerboats. Like usual the 38 feet V hull powerboat is loaded whit lots of features that increase the pleasure of driving the boat and has the bold custom graphics that assures you that the 38 Lightning won’t go unnoticed.
Interior
38 Lightning (cabin)
The interior of the 38’s is very comfortable. In the cockpit Fountain created a three formed seats in the rear bench. The helm includes throttles and shifters from Livorsi Marine. The gauges, with carbon fiber faces, are positioned around the wheel in a U shape. The cabin is spacious and includes a V berth and a U shape lounge. Also in the cabin you’ll find a stainless sink, two small ice chests, and two hatches for ventilation.
Test drive
The 38 runs smooth, it takes the curves very well even at high speeds, and the passengers feel comfortable and secure. Let’s talk about the performance! You definitely know very well that when you’re driving a Fountain powerboat you’re always ahead of the competition. The 38 Lightning doesn’t break that “rule”! With the recommended engine – the Twin Staggered Mercury 525 EFI w/Bravo 1-XR/SSM/ITS – the top speed is around 95 mph. But if you really want to feel the adrenaline rush I recommend the Twin Mercury 700 SCI w/NXT #6 drives engine that reaches a top speed of 115 mph in good weather conditions.

Conclusion
Development that’s the keyword of Fountain Powerboats, and the 38 Lightning is the proof of that. This boat runs faster and it’s more stable than other boats, proving that performance in a powerboat is the most important thing. Performance associated with security and a perfect control can convince anyone to try the 38 Lightning.
