2007 Fountain Mercury 42 Lightning

Posted on by 0

There is no boat with the history of the 42 Lighting. This is the hull that blitzed the race courses of the world, winning more world and national champions than any other V-bottom in history.

Engine

The Fountain 42 Lighting is powered up by a pair of Mercury 525 EFI engines that makes the boat to reach a top speed of 90 mph. If you really want to “fly” on the water you can try the twin 700 Mercury’s with NXT1 gimbals and #6 uppers and lowers to reach speeds approaching 105 mph, or the Mercury 850’s for a speed of 120 mph. Not enough yet? You’re not yet satisfy by the speed of the Lighting? Ok, then maybe the Mercury 1075s will make you happy with a top speed over 130 mph.

The engine room offers plenty of space to work on the engines and the oil filters.

Exterior

The exterior of the Fountain 42 Lighting is protected by a plastic rub rail with a rubber insert. The hull and deck are hand-laid with vinylester resin and quad-directional fiberglass fabric.

Interior

The cockpit of the 42 Lighting has racing seats for the driver and passenger, and on the aft bench is room for three to four persons. The helm has Gaffrig gauges arranged in Fountain’s standard horseshoe configuration. The chrome-plated throttles and shifters, and the mechanical indicators are in reach of the driver and easy to read.

Below deck is a spacious cabin with a U-shaped lounge for entertaining and a single cushion V-berth with stowage lockers beneath it. At the port side of the boat is the galley with an ice chest and a stainless-steel sink. The head compartment is well equipped with a latching door for privacy, stowage cabinets, a stainless-steel sink and a Porta Potti.

Test drive

The 42 Lighting has good handling, positive response and a total absence of wheel torque thanks to the hydraulic steering. The boats handles best the slalom turns at 40mph, but you can’t complain about the handling at higher speeds. The 42 Lighting is quick to respond and quite agile in tight turns.
