Azimut 64

Azimut added today a new model to their flybridge line: the 64, a yacht that reinterprets and updates the strong points that made the 62’s commercial feat possible.

The originality and sportiness of the design are apparent at the very first glance. The lines of the deckhouse exude elegance and harmony, with bold windows made more aggressive by the fin of the flybridge that emerges at the level of the saloon. The mirror-finish glass placed on the roll bar further refines what is already perfect.

Safety is certified by homologation in Class A: or to put it differently, Azimut 64 can tackle any sea and weather conditions. The hull and structures have been designed striving for the best balance between traditional and innovative composite materials (like carbon fiber) and then realized through the infusion process to ensure greater sturdiness in the points of greatest stress. At the same time they reduce the hull’s weight, allowing the two 1150 hp Caterpillar engines to achieve better performances and savings on consumption.

Porsche Design RFF135 motor yacht

Porsche design announced that the RFF135 motor yacht will be revealed in the second quarter of 2011. With a total length of more than 40 meters the RFF135 has a very modern design and reflects the dynamic lines of the hull. The typical Porsche design is unmistakable: luxurious, functional and without a trace of any ornate opulence. A sleek outline combined with authentic, high quality and comfortable materials give the interior real flair.

"Unlike most 135 foot yachts, the complete hull of the RFF135 is not made of fibreglass, but entirely of aluminum", said Roland Heiler, Managing Director of Porsche Design Studio in Zell am See. "Inside, you will find materials typical for Porsche Design: brushed stainless steel and aluminium, leather for the seats and wall coverings, together with carbon fibre. The customer has the final say. They can personalise their catamaran in cooperation with us, entirely to their own taste."

’A’ - or a $300 million yacht

Of course the owner of this impressive yacht is a Ruassian, Andrey Melnichenko. Its yacht features a radical shape and was designed by Philippe Starck. Completed in 2008 the yacht is estimated at $300 million.

Called ’A’, the yacht features is secured by a fingerprint security system, with only four people in the world having access to it. And after you get inside there is an all-white, 2,583-square-foot master suite wrapped n bomb-proof, 44-millimeter glass. The combination of the rotating bed and the rotating platter allows limitless angles for watching the sunset, sunrise or the 60-inch plasma TV, which retracts from the ceiling.

Instead of regular couches and mahogany walls, there are Baccarat-crystal tables, shiny white finishes and polished silver, a kind of Manhattan-loft-meets-Vegas aesthetic. Many of the rooms have floor-to-ceiling mirrors, which Mr. Starck says have a built-in "mathematical beauty" that also refer to the "mathematical genius" of Mr. Melnichenko. The walls of one room are covered in white sting-ray hides, while another is covered in hand-stitched calf’s leather. The main deck features two Michel Haillard chairs made from alligator hides and Kudo horns.

Lancia Powerboat

After making quite a name in the automotive industry, Lancia focused their attention into the yachting industry. At the Genoa Boat Show, the Italian maker unveiled the Lancia Powerboat, a boat designed, modeled and built using the advanced tools and equipment that have established Sacs as the sector’s technical leader.

The hull is 13.10 metres in length, with a broad beam of 3.83 metres. These figures give a moderate coefficient of fineness, in search of balance between performance and comfort on board. A limited draft of only 0.80 metres permits navigation even in shallow waters. A weight to power ratio of about 7.5 kg/HP establishes the boat as one of the most powerful available. The two N67-560 engines by Fiat Powertrain Technologies are “best in class”.

The choice of JMD propulsion, as used in competitive powerboats, typifies the quest for high dynamic efficiency, not only for speed purposes, but to reduce consumption and emissions by ensuring maximum screw efficiency too. The fuel tank has a capacity of 1000 litres, giving sufficient autonomy even for long crossings. Cruising speeds range from 15 to 45 knots, while top speed under ideal loading conditions tops 55 knots. The Lancia Powerboat can carry up to 11 persons, and has a cabin to sleep two.
