The 3rd round of the WPPA World Powerboat Championship – the Scandinavian Grand Prix – was won by Bjorn Gjelsten and Steve Curtis with Spirit of Norway putting their world title defense back on track. Gitana 11 is preparing to start the Rolex Fastnet Race on Sunday 12 August. The skipper Lionel Lemonchois and his team of five sailors hope that the name Gitana appears again on the trophy this year. The Fastnet is one of the most prestigious ocean races in the world, and has been organized by the Royal Ocean Racing Club since 1925. The Chevrolet Chevrolet Cup at Seafair held this weekend in Seattle was an amazing hydroplane race won by Steve David of the Oh Boy! Oberto team with an average speed over 136 mph. David declared after the race: “This was an emotional weekend for the entire team. The first leg of the 2007 Solitaire Afflelou Le Figaro finished at Crosshaven. Today begun the second stage of the competition, a 344 miles race from Crosshaven to Brest. Thierry Duprey du Vorsent, at the helm of Domaine du Mont d’Arbois, crossed the finish line of the first leg of the Solitaire Afflelou Le Figaro at Crosshaven in 24th position, in a time of 12 hr 08 min 22 sec. Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al-Thani is relishing the prospect of a return to racing in Oslo at the Scandinavian Grand Prix - round 3 of the WPPA Class 1 World Powerboat Championship (Sunday, 12 August) - the scene of his maiden Grand Prix win with Matteo Nicolini in 2004, and the last time the city staged a round of the World Championship. Tomorrow one of the oldest solo races in the world will begin. In Ouistreham Bay at Caen, Thierry Duprey du Vorsent and Domaine du Mont d’Arbois, from Gitana Team will line up at the start of the 38th Solitaire Afflelou Le Figaro at 15:00 hours on Tuesday 31 March. Raymarine fitted their latest top-of-the-range GPS navigation system in Sun Lik Beer, prior to the Powerboat P1 German Grand Prix of the Sea, and both boat and sponsor benefited from a strong team performance with Ocean Dragon Racing finishing in second place in the SuperSport class.
