The Hyundai i20 was launched in 2007 as a three- and five-door hatchback to sit between the i10 city car and the i30 compact. The i20 replaced the aging Hyundai Getz on most markets, but it didn’t make it to the United States, where the Korean manufacturer sells the slightly larger Accent hatchback instead. Underpinned by an all-new platform developed by Hyundai Europe, the first-gen i10 was available with a wide range of inline-four engines. The gasoline units displaced between 1.2 and 1.6 liters, while the diesel mills came in 1.1-, 1.4-, and 1.6-liter sizes. Output began from 74 horsepower and topped 126 ponies in the more expensive trims. Moving into the 2015 model year, Hyundai is finally introducing the second-generation i20, a completely redesigned hatch meant to spur the company’s presence in Europe’s crowded B-segment market.

Scheduled to be unveiled at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in October, the 2015 Hyundai i20 was also developed at the company’s European technical center in Germany. Likewise, the second-generation supermini won’t make it across the Pond, where we will have to settle for the fourth-generation Accent, which is already a four-year-old model.

Although the Paris Motor Show is still a couple of months away, Hyundai has released preliminary photos and details of the redesigned i20. Read on to find out more about the second-gen compact.

Back in 1989, Land Rover mounted an expedition to trek across the toughest lands the United States had to offer: the expansive Great Divide. The geological entity stretched from Colorado down to New Mexico and hosted numerous old mining towns established in the 1860s. Land Rover used the Great Divide Expedition to launch the then-new 1990 Range Rover. The SUVs used for the expedition were completely stock, save for more aggressive tires, bumper-mounted winches, and roof racks. Over 12 days the expedition moved south through the Great Divide while conquering unpaved or non-road surfaces during more than 75 percent of the distance.

Fast forward to 2014 and Land Rover is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the original Great Divide Expedition with a second running. The expedition will use 2014 Range Rovers to relive the experience. What’s more, Land Rover has teamed up with Tread Lightly!, the original sponsor of the first expedition, to recreate a 1990 Range Rover expedition vehicle from a restored Rover.

That restored replica is now up for auction on Ebay Motors. As of 8/5/2014, the bid is sitting at $30,001. The proceeds of the charity auction will benefit Tread Lightly!’s programs designed to protect and enhance outdoor recreation areas across the country. The auction went live starting August 4, 2014 and runs through 9 p.m. August 14, 2014.

The venerable Corolla has been a mainstay in Toyota’s U.S. lineup since its introduction in 1968. Toyota’s longest-running nameplate has undergone numerous alterations over the years, but has always remained a stalwart of the compact sedan segment. In 1997, the Corolla surpassed the Volkswagen Beetle as the best selling nameplate worldwide. That tradition continues today with the updated 2014 Toyota Corolla .

I recently spent a week getting to know a Corolla equipped in the LE Eco trim — the Corolla’s most fuel-efficient trim package. Equipped with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder, electronic power steering, skinny tires, and a Continuously Variable Transmission, the Corolla earns an EPA economy rating of 30 mpg city, 42 mpg highway, and 35 mpg combined.

Coated in a deep Evergreen color, the Corolla did a great job at keeping its fuel-conscience end of the bargain. My weekly total average topped just over 31 mpg, besting the Corolla’s EPA city rating. A light throttle and careful driving quickly saw the average increase on slower highway jaunts, making the EPA’s estimates seem obtainable.

The Corolla proved to be a reasonable yet rather tossable set of wheels during its week stay, though there were a few quibbles about NVH.

The Fiat 500L is how we always thought the 500 should look like. It’s bigger and more dynamic, not to mention refined in ways that the standard 500 isn’t. The 500L is also versatile enough to be adapt to whatever customization package you give it. If you need proof of that, look no further than the Fiat 500L-Vans Design Concept.

The model was on display at the 2014 Vans US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, California where it turned a lot of heads with its quirky customization that pays homage to the urban fashion brand.

Fiat and Vans may be unlikely allies in the grand scheme of things, but you wouldn’t notice that by the way the two collaborated to create the 500L-Vans Design Concept. It features plenty of Vans-inspired bits spread throughout the exterior and interior, including the iconic Vans Checkerboard pattern that’s prominently displayed on the 500L’s roof.

This isn’t your standard Fiat 500L, ladies and gentlemen. This is the result of a partnership between two brands that just so happen to have products geared for the same young and adventurous generation.

Fiat and Vans worked some serious magic to turn this 500L into what it looks like now. The result is a piece of beauty, even though I say that knowing that it’s not hitting dealerships any time soon — or ever, for that matter.

The second-generation Smart ForFour has a lot of redeeming qualities about it. The fact that it’s bigger than the ForTwo is already a plus on its own, but its front section also looks a lot more modern than I thought it would. So yeah, I’m a fan of the ForFour and I’m actually excited to hear that Smart decided to introduce the ForFour’s own "Edition 1" model.

It’s just like what big brother Mercedes has done with some of its recent models, only with a Smart badge. But don’t let the badge fool you because the ForFour Edition 1 is actually a pretty cool model that’s got its own checklist of exclusive features.

The Graphite Gray primary hue is a good start to the look of the ForFour Edition 1. Add the Lava Orange exterior highlights, and you get a nice two-tone finish going on. There’s also a new black front grille and a panoramic roof with sunblind. The latter feature, in particular, is the kind of luxury feature you normally don’t see in a ForFour.

Moving on, the ForFour Edition 1 also gets the treat of a new set of 16-inch, black alloy wheels, a lowered sports suspension that drops the ride by 10 mm (0.39 inches), and a chromed tailpipe.

Smart has made no indication on when it plans to launch the ForFour Edition 1, but it’s a good bet that it’s going to be soon because a Smart that looks like this deserves to be in dealerships sooner than later.

The line between cars and motorcycles is getting thinner every day. Morgan’s Three Wheeler is open topped and uses the majority of bike’s powertrain for proulsion. Track day toys like the Ariel Atom promise the same type of acceleration as superbikes, and KTM , a motorcycle company, even builds a competitor to the Atom called the X-Bow . On the motorcycle side Can-Am has the Spyder , which is essentially a reversed trike. For 2015 we can add one more name to the list of motorcycle-car `tweeners: the Polaris Slingshot . The Slingshot features a design similar to the X-Bow, complete with a side-by-side seating arrangement, but it brings in the three-wheel layout of the Can-Am and Morgan.

Propulsion comes from a 2.4-liter, Ecotec four-cylinder sourced from General Motors that sends 173 ponies to the pavement. Yes, it’s time to yell "at least!" The Morgan 3-Wheeler is finally getting a competitor that can be acquired on U.S. soil without having to worry about import taxes and other headache-inducing duties.

Introduced in 1998, the Smart ForTwo revolutionized the city car segment through its short overall length and rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive configuration. The first-generation ForTwo went on sale in 1998 with a range of small-displacement gasoline and diesel engines and a six-speed semi-automatic transmission. The three-door hatchback didn’t reach the U.S. market until 2008, when the second-gen ForTwo was launched with revised looks and brand-new engines. The old gasoline units were replaced by 1.0-liter powerplant, while the six-speed transmission made way for a five-speed semi-automatic. Output ranged between 53 and 83 horsepower on the regular cars, while the Brabus version generated 101 ponies and was the only one to reach a top speed of more than 90 mph. Going into 2015, the Smart ForTwo steps into its third generation as vehicle co-developed with French automaker Renault .

Sharing about 70 percent of its parts with the brand-new Renault Twingo, the new ForTwo was redesigned from the ground up and fitted with upgraded engines and all-new transmissions, including a manual gearbox. The 2016 ForTwo comes with many firsts, but you’ll have to read on to find out more about that.

Launched in 2004, six years after the introduction of the ForTwo and one year after the Roadster went on sale, the ForFour became Smart’s third automobile. Unlike its previous offerings, the ForFour offered seating for five people and was only sold in Europe. Four engines were available at launch, including a 1.1-liter three-cylinder, a 1.3-liter four-cylinder, a 1.5-liter four-pot, all working on gasoline, and a 1.5-liter inline-three diesel. Transmissions included a five-speed manual and a six-speed semi-automatic. At the time, the ForFour was the only Smart car offered with a manual. Slow sales prompted the company to axe the ForFour in 2006, after only three years of production. Rumors about Smart ’s plan to revive the ForFour nameplate surfaced in 2012. Heading into the 2015 model year, the second-gen model is finally here as a longer, four-door version of the ForTwo.

Unlike its predecessor, the new ForFour borrows its styling cues and drivetrain layout from its smaller sibling. Once a front-engined car, the ForFour evolved into a rear-engined vehicle, while keeping its front-wheel-drive. Jointly developed with Renault , the new ForFour shares about 70 percent of its parts with the third-generation Renault Twingo, while its powertrains are shared with the 2015 ForTwo .

For 2015, 10 years after its introduction, the Toyota Yaris is getting its second restyling with revised looks inside and out, a quieter cabin, a fuel-efficient engine, and all the versatility that comes with the three- and five-door versions. The U.S.-spec Yaris debuted in 2005 with lots of spunk and clever packing wrapped in an inexpensive sub-compact. Offered in both the three-door and five-door hatchback styles, the Yaris filled a niche near at the bottom of Toyota’s lineup. Refreshed in 2011, the Yaris continued its mission largely unchanged, save for a more modern design. Now for 2015, Toyota is improving the Yaris with more refinement and a better driving experience, while still retaining its superb value proposition. Starting at just $14,485, the Yaris makes a great city car or a sweet first car for a teenager. Its 1.5-liter inline four-cylinder will keep curious teens out of trouble with Johnny Law, while the expansive cargo area and decent back seat might land them in trouble with mom and dad.

Toyota has resolved a few of the complaints that plagued the previous-generation Yaris, namely the NHV levels inside the cabin. More sound insulation and more premium interior materials help push the Yaris’ feel upmarket, while it still keeps its low price point. With three trim models and two body lengths to chose from, the Yaris is a pretty customizable hatchback .

With the updated features and added benefits, Toyota may see the Yaris climb back up the sales charts to the level of its glory days in 2008 when sales of the hatch topped 100,000 units. Selling only 21,343 units in 2013, the Yaris was apparently in desperate need of a makeover. Let’s see what Toyota has done to turn up the heat.

Vauxhall is a largely unknown brand in the U.S., but it’s got a pretty big following in the UK. In fact, one of the brand’s most popular models is the Corsa supermini, a car that first broke into the scene back in 1982 as the Opel Corsa. The Corsa was actually called the Nova in its first incarnation out of fears that Corsa was too close to the word "coarser". It doesn’t exactly build up confidence that a model’s name sounds like a word that means "poor quality". Over time, Vauxhall finally adapted the Corsa name, beginning the supermini’s run that has lasted four generations. After years of bland facelifts and minor upgrades, Vauxhall finally welcomed the fourth-generation Corsa for 2015, complete with enough new features and new technology to make your head spin. Vauxhall also confirmed that it’s going to release a VXR variant of the Corsa. Good times all around!

Before diving into the Vauxhall Corsa, it’s important to remember that Opel and Vauxhall actually share the Corsa model. The two models are virtually identical except for the different company badges. The only difference is that the model is badged as a Vauxhall in the UK while Opel is used throughout Europe.

The Vauxhall Corsa is an incredibly popular model in the UK, routinely averaging over 83,000 units sold per year. That’s second only to its closest competitor, the Ford Fiesta . But here’s the catch: the Corsa was still getting strong sales numbers despite the fact that the third-generation model was in its last stages.

But with an all-new, fourth-generation model scheduled to hit showrooms for 2015, you can bet that more people will be clamoring to get a piece of the Corsa.

Is 100,000 units a year possible for the fourth-generation Vauxhall Corsa? We can’t tell you that right now, but all the signs seem to point to a resounding "yes!"
