The most successful race car of all time is set to meet some of the most successful race drivers of all time at this years’ Race of Champions. The event is an absolute riot of fun and includes cars and bikes from all forms of FIA Motorsport. At the end of every year, newly crowned Champions of their respective disciplines are pitted against each other in head to head battle. Drivers are asked to step out of their comfort zone by performing on a make-shift course in cars they don’t usually drive – which makes for interesting and entertaining racing. Not to mention the fact that all around driving skill is absolutely pivotal to success. Ever wondered how Sébastien Loeb would fare against Michael Schumacher, both driving Porsche GT3 Cup cars? Well come November 27th-28th in Dusseldorf we’ll find out.

The 3.8 liter 450 hp 911 GT3 Cup will be one of many uber cool cars being used at this years’ event and American Le Mans winner and ROC newbie, Jeroen Bleekemolen, will hope that he can drive as many heats as possible behind the wheel of his Porsche to gain an advantage over the superstar lineup. Drivers will experience superb handling and 8500RPMs of aural pleasure that is rivaled by few other cars. Traditionally, the course is tight and will allow the GT3’s handling ability to come to the fore. We look forward to all the action.

There seems to be a lot of activity going on in Stuttgart as Porsche has been in the center of numerous rumors with regards to a number of vehicles that are in the pipeline for release.

A few days ago, we touched on the company already preparing a Porsche GT3 RS Limited Edition. Now, Porsche has decided to do a pre-emptive strike by releasing the first official details of the long-awaited Porsche 911 Speedster based on the current 997 a week before its scheduled appearance at the Paris Motor Show.

It’s been a while since Porsche has come out with a 911 Speedster – the early nineties, if you can believe that – so while it’s a little surprising that the brand only decided to come out with a successor now, it’s a surprise that we’re all happy to find out especially when you consider that the last Speedster was one of the most desirable Porsches of that generation.

For this new 911 Speedster, the convertible sports car carrying an aerodynamic body kit package, tinted headlights, black accents, a soft-top cover, a special front apron, specific sideskirts, a distinct rear apron, and a choice of two paint options: Carrera White and Pure Blue.

Updated 11/08/2010: When Porsche unveiled the new 911 Speedster at the Paris Auto Show they also announced the spicy price for it: 201,682 Euros (around $285,000 at the current exchange rates). Despite the high price tag, the 356 units in line for production have already been allocated. Scheduled to hit dealerships in December, this Speedster has already received enough booking to exceed the number of copies available. In other words, it’s SOLD OUT. So if you intended to buy one, we’re sorry, but about 356 people or more have beat you to it.

Surprisingly, the Grand Sport Corvette isn’t what Chevrolet is showcasing during their stint at SEMA. As people often say, it’s what’s on the inside that counts, and this Corvette’s insides are rocking Chevrolet’s new E-ROD LSA crate engine package. The new engine delivers an impressive 556 HP and, for a sports car with a curb weight of about 2,500 pounds, it delivers an incredible power-to-weight ratio of only 4.5:1.

Chevrolet could have settled for just about any car as host to their new engine, but the company chose to make a replica of the iconic Corvette Grand Sports because of its exclusivity - only five were ever built - and its racing history. The Corvette features the historically inspired Admiral Blue paint and bright white stripes, along with wheels based on the design of the original Grand Sport race cars.

Chevrolet says that they are working closely with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to allow the E-ROD LSA system to be used in pre-OBD-II vehicles and specially constructed vehicles – such as the Superformance Grand Sport – in California.

The E-ROD LSA system will be available after the first quarter of 2011.

We like anniversaries at TopSpeed, mostly because we get to see some really impressive special editions of stock vehicles. Yet, as is life, there are some that are just a waste of road space. These machines take a good car and paint it with a unique color, add some badges, and charge a massive sum for the whole kit. That’s like celebrating your 50th wedding anniversary at a Burger King with a fancy upper level.

The Mazda MX-5 Super20 doesn’t have this issue. Not to mention the fact that the normal MX-5 was one hell of a machine. Ever since it was launched it has sold by the millions and become the quintessential British roadster, despite the fact it’s not even built in the UK.

So, what does the MX-5 Super20 offer that the normal version doesn’t. Well, we have put together a preview of this anniversary addition below.

Toyota brought the Tundra Sportsman to the SEMA Show. This is a unique show truck, inspired by the outdoor tradition of hunting. It’s based on a 2011 Tundra Double Cab 4x4 equipped with the TRD Rock Warrior Package and 5.7-liter V8 with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The exterior is painted in a muted color palette of Grays and Black, semi-gloss paint was used for the body and shell while a flat finish was applied to the trim. Finishing the package is ATX 18-inch Teflon-coated wheels fitted onto 33 x 12.5-inch Nitto Mud Grapplers.

Inside, the truck was designed to be a command center for extended hunting trips as essential field electronics such as a weather station and GPS have been installed. The black Rock Warrior carpeting is weather protected by all-weather Browning branded camouflage floor mats. The stock 10 speaker JBL sound system is supplemented by JBL all-weather outdoor speakers that are wired into the bed area to create a simple but comfortable recreation space.

Based on the ballots counted from the exhibitors at this years’ SEMA Show, the Camaro has been selected as the “Hottest Car” for 2010. The criteria included the number of aftermarket accessories available for that particular model and its popularity with exhibitors. There are a host of aftermarket accessories for most Chevrolet models, but none with as many as the Camaro – cementing its position at the top of the admiration list.

Products on show include those that enhance performance, convenience, appearance, and comfort. “More than any other venue, the cars exhibitors and attendees bring to SEMA embody the passion and excitement of car enthusiasts everywhere,” said John Fitzpatrick, Chevrolet Performance Cars marketing manager. “Based on the sheer number of Camaros displayed on the floor, and parked in the adjacent lots, the Camaro is clearly the hottest car of the show.”

We’ll be sure to bring you the pick of the bunch later this week.
