With just a week before its official debut at the New York Auto Show, Lexus has unveiled the official details on the LF-Gh concept, a preview version of the next generation GS premium grand touring sedan. The concept will be at the Lexus display through May 1, 2011.

"For this concept, Lexus designers studied characteristics that are often considered contradictory and difficult to execute together," said Kengo Matsumoto, general manager, Lexus Design Division, Toyota Toyota Motor Corporation. "The captivating design of the LF-Gh concept examines the possibility of balancing what are normally opposing qualities, such as style and functionality."

The Lexus LF-Gh concept takes the company’s L-Finesse design philosophy one step forward and combines style, performance, efficiency, and environmental compatibility with advanced, new technologies. And, as with many other new concepts, the LF-Gh is also a hybrid vehicle.

SR Automotive Group has been known for creating unique and stylish rides for those that already drive some of the best cars on the planet. The owner and founder of SR Auto Group, Tony Yuen, wanted to create a unique experience when it comes to tuning high-end luxury cars. The SR in the name stands for “Style and Refinement” which the company has been able to stick with throughout the years.

The cars that end up coming from this Vancouver based shop are modified tastefully and express each individual’s personality. One of their most recent projects was to create the ultimate Lamborghini Gallardo LP560 , nicknamed “Erebos.” The LP560 is the entry level model of the Gallardo, but its 5.2-liter V10 still creates 560 horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 398 ft-lbs of torque at 6,500 rpm.

Tuning something that is already a precision machine can be a tricky business and therefore SR Auto is very careful to not change the overall dynamics of the Gallardo . Most customers do not tend to ask for dramatic power increases in a car like this and so on the performance side SR has added an exhaust system. Including several aerodynamic pieces and a set of beautiful wheels were enough to change this “mild” Gallardo into one of the cleanest looking aftermarket examples we have ever seen.

The Porsche Boxster has been around for about 15 years and has only seen two generations and a facelift in 2008. Luckily for the guys over at Porsche, the mid-engined roadster is doing fine without the extra renovations. For 2011, the Boxster isn’t coming at us with extra packages or additional bells and whistles, but it is arriving in style with its usual sleek and unique exterior, and its good ol’ faithful 2.9L six cylinder Boxer engine.

The Porsche Boxster doesn’t really scream incredible speed with a power output of 255hp at 6,400rpm and 214 lb.-ft. of torque. It’s 0-60mph sprint of 5.6 seconds isn’t the best time for sports cars in this class and its 163mph isn’t the best either. What is cool about this engine setup is the seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) which can minimize these performance numbers and provide a more comfortable ride.

Pricing for the 2011 Porsche Boxster starts off at a reasonable $47,600 for the base model which comes with the standard six-speed transmission. Add the seven-speed PDK gearbox and that price jumps up to $51,020. And then there’s the addition of a few "extras" that could jet propel this price to a not-so-comfortable, underwear up the butt kind of feeling.

Hit the jump to get the good, the bad, and the oooh about the 2011 Porsche Boxster.

As General Motors attempts to come out of its government owned era, it has the massive task of reinvigorating the American buyer. As with most large purchases, the American consumer is also rather uneducated. As we can see by the downfall of the housing market, all too often consumers over extend themselves and make poor decisions. Admittedly, the decline of the real estate market and the downfall of the big three automakers are due to completely separate reasons, but some similarities can be found.

One of the biggest struggles that General Motors will face in the coming years is making people believe that their product is superior to the competition. As emissions laws tighten and consumers become more environmentally conscious the problem for an automaker like GM is extrapolated. GM is a company built around its truck sales and the most environmentally unfriendly thing on the road this side of a Hummer is a heavy duty pickup truck.

However, General Motors has surprised us by coming out of bankruptcy so quickly and with so much vigor. Its new models are impressive and cross every segment that the company operates in. Many may think that this is the same old GM singing a new tune that will fade away soon, but the company has organized several events to educate the consumer and let them know that these changes are here to stay.

This past weekend we attended the Main Street in Motion event in Newport Beach, CA. Several years ago we were at a similar event in Las Vegas, Nevada, but this time things were a little different. General Motors brought their typical heavy hitter models like the Corvette , Camaro , Sierra , and Tahoe . They also included some of the newer, cleaner, and less known models like the Volt , Cruze , Acadia , and Tahoe Hybrid . Those who attended were able to test drive every model and see how each model handled when compared to the competition.

Mercedes has its slots filled for this year’s New York Auto Show, as the company will be unveiling the new C63 AMG Coupe , a new concept car, and another AMG model during the show. If we take previous marketing exploitations as a hint of the future, then expect to see the SLS AMG Roadster teased back in February in the Mercedes Super Bowl commercial on this roster as the second AMG model. As for the concept car, it will surely follow along the usual concept criteria, which involves previewing the company’s future technology.

Alongside the three models making their world premieres, Mercedes will also be busy with another three models making their North American debuts: the Mercedes-Benz SLK Roadster , C-Class Coupe , and C-Class will all be in attendance to strut their stuff for the American crew.

Hang tight and we’ll bring more coverage of the event and news of Mercedes’ expected debuts as soon as we get it.

After a short hiatus, Cadillac will be hitting the track once again to compete in the Sports Car Club of America World Challenge in 2011. Using their CTS-V Coupe , Cadillac will develop a new race car in cooperation with Pratt & Miller, a New Hudson, Mich., engineering firm which specializes in motorsports. Cadillac last saw the SCCA track in 2007 and will be returning next year with a two-car team.

The CTS-V Coupe will have to undergo plenty of modifications to meet up to the SCCA standards, but Cadillac has yet to announce what the changes for the future race car will include. Of course, the fact that the standard coupe gets a 556 HP V8 engine is reason enough for some teams to be shaking in their performance tires.

The first race at the SCCA World Challenge for the two CTS-V coupes will take place on March 25th-27th in St. Petersburg, Florida. Behind the wheel of the Cadillacs will be three-time GT1 champion in the America Le Mans Series, Johnny O’Connell and 2005 SCCA World Challenge GT class champion, Andy Pilgrim.

"The SCCA World Challenge lends itself well to a natural transfer of knowledge," said Jim Campbell, GM vice president for Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. "The series will become a key test-bed for Cadillac. We anticipate using what we learn on the racetrack to ensure the V-Series stays on the cutting-edge of performance."

UPDATE 03/23/2011: Cadillac has marked the return of latest CTS-V Coupe race car to the racing track with a couple of new videos : one is a trailer of the car and the other one explains its origins. Enjoy!

UPDATE 05/04/2012: Cadillac has unveiled a new promo video for the CTS-V Racer featuring Team Cadillac drivers Andy Pilgrim and Johnny O’Connell as they prepare to take on the Utah Grand Prix in Round 4 of the Pirelli World Challenge Series.

The luxury sedan segment is cluttered with numerous offerings spanning many different countries. Germany is the pack leader with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7-Series, and theAudi A8 , while Japan counters with the Lexus LS460 . Jaguar delivers with the new XJ , which is combination of elegant lines and old world grace, while American company, Cadillac, offers up the Stone Age DTS .

Each and every one of these machines has a purpose that is executed with precision and, for the most part, excellence. The new BMW 7-Series is fairly good at being a technology laden sports sedan, while the Lexus LS is on the opposite end of the spectrum. Yet, after a week in the new 2011 Audi A8 , it has become clear that there is a new benchmark for the luxury sedan.

For years it was left behind by its German competitors, but now, the new world has caught up with the old world and for once, Mercedes Mercedes -Benz and BMW will need to do some serious catching up in order to compete with this new A8. The “third” German car company has just taken the lead.
