After years of speculations, Honda is finally taking the first steps in offering a successor for the very prominent NSX supercar with its first concept version revealed at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. The company has promised that a production version will follow in the next three years and will be manufactured at the company’s plant in Ohio.

Not only does the concept revealed in Detroit preview the future NSX supercar, it also presents the first application of Acura ’s innovative new Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super Handling All Wheel Drive) system. This system combines a unique 2 Electric Motor Drive Unit with a bilateral torque adjustable control system that allows the car to instantly generate negative or positive torque to the front wheels during cornering. The company then throws in their next generation VTEC 3.5-liter V6 with direct-injection and a dual clutch transmission with built-in electric motor.

"This Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system will make NSX the ultimate expression of Acura’s idea to create synergy between man and machine," said Takanobu Ito, president and CEO of Honda Honda Motor Co., Ltd. "The NSX will make the driver one with the car to enhance dynamic driving abilities without getting in the way."

"Like the first NSX, we will again express high performance through engineering efficiency," added Ito, who led the development of Acura’s first NSX supercar. "In this new era, even as we focus on the fun to drive spirit of the NSX, I think a supercar must respond positively to environmental responsibilities."

Updated 04/06/2012: The new NSX Concept has also been presented at the New York Auto Show and we were just there to shot a few more pictures of it. Found them in the picture gallery section.

Updated 04/25/2012: While until now we have seen the new Acura NSX sports car in a gray exterior paint, for the Beijing Auto Show the NSX has dressed a very cool red paint.

It’s easy to get caught up in the hoopla surrounding the 2012 North American International Auto Show , but that doesn’t mean that we’re closing our eyes and ears to everything else going on in the automotive world. Especially when it comes to the Geneva Motor Show this March.

One automaker that’s looking to kick-start some buzz is Infiniti . Nissan’s luxury brand has officially released the first teaser image of a new electric sports car concept that’s going to break cover in Geneva.

Details are limited at this point, although we’ve been told that the car will carry a mid-mounted powertrain that will provide weight distribution and handling for the extended range vehicle. According to Infiniti, the still-to-be-named concept car will be an electrically-propelled vehicle that will make for a "vivid, engaging and sophisticated driving experience" for drivers everywhere.

It’s been no secret that Nissan is looking into bringing a new electric car in the US for some time now. This concept car could very well be the precursor to that car, and if we do say so ourselves, we’re looking forward to seeing what Infiniti has up its sleeve when the covers are pulled on this concept car at the Geneva Motor Show.

The Chevelle was one of the most impressive models offered by Chevrolet in the 1964 through 1977 model years, and although there have been rumors circulating about a possible revival, nothing ever really happened to encourage that rumor to be more. That is, until now. According to Jalopnik, Chevrolet will be offering a "surprise concept" next week at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show that will preview the return of the historic Chevelle.

According to their source, Jalopnik says that this concept will be a "retro-styled compact-ish car" translated into a concept that is "smaller than a mid-size sedan but bigger than a toaster." Great, we’re glad they cleared that up. It also seems as though Chevrolet has trademarked the "Chicane" name so it is very possible that the concept will come bearing that name when it lands in the Motor City.

Let’s just hope this rumor does hold water because after two years of Chevelle revival nonsense, we’re about due for some concrete information, and maybe we’ll get just that next week in Detroit. Stay tuned!

Now this is how you create an excellent - and mysterious - teaser photo. The scene is dark and there’s only that sight of the shadow of an unmistakable supercar growling in the darkness, waiting to bust out its fangs and unleash holy hell on the entire auto industry.

This, dear friends, is a teaser photo released by Gumpert announcing the arrival of an all-new supercar that’s scheduled to be unveiled at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show . Details behind this mysterious machine are still being kept under wraps and the only thing we really have going for us are these foreboding photos.

What the car will look like, what it’s going to be called, and what’s it going to be like are all questions that nobody has an answer to just yet.

But if there’s one thing that we can take away from this mysterious teaser photo, it’s the ever-growing realization from some of the world’s fastest cars that their worst nightmare is out there lurking in the shadows.

And it’s coming soon. Very, very soon.

UPDATE 01/04/12: The countdown towards the 2012 Geneva Motor Show has begun. One car that’s shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated is the new supercar to come from Gumpert. The car is being pegged as the successor to the mighty Apollo and though we don’t have any details on it, the automaker has satiated our appetites by dropping the second teaser photo of the car. It doesn’t show much, but it’s still something that has raised a lot of eyebrows.
