It appears Bentley’s Mulsanne Convertible Concept is back on the drawing board. This comes after the project was killed by Bentley’s then-new CEO Wolfgang Schreiber back in 2012. Originally debuted to a small number of customers at the Concours d’Elegance a few months prior, the project went cold when Bentley’s former CEO Wolfgang Duerheimer left the company.

With Duerheimer gone, Schreiber told journalists “we will not do that car,” saying there was “just regional demand” and that it lacked a strong business case. Well the turn of fates has Duerheimer, the father of the Mulsanne Convertible Concept, returning as CEO of Bentley just two years after his leaving.

“When I returned, I was a bit irritated by the fact that no work had been done on this project in two years, Duerheimer said, later reassuring Automotive News that the project was “back on track.”

During his absence at Bentley, Duerheimer spent time as Audi’s Chief of Research and Development, along with a short period at Volkswagen coordinating all its motorsports activities.

Duerheimer is convinced the Mulsanne Convertible will be a strong competitor to the upcoming convertible versions of the Rolls-Royce Ghost and Mercedes-Benz S-Class . Still at this point we don’t know much about the Mulsanne’s pricing or future availability. But with Wolfgang Duerheimer back at the helm, his brainchild will assuredly make it to production.

Introduced at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show , the McLaren 650S took center stage as a replacement for the aging, yet still enticing, MP4-12C . Available in both coupe and roadster guises, the sports car rolled off the assembly line with the proven, twin-turbo, 3.8-liter V-8 behind its seats. Motivated by no less than 640 horses and 500 pound-feet of twist, the 650S quickly became the fastest vehicle in its segment, outgunning sports cars wearing both Ferrari and Lamborghini badges. Coming into 2015, the Brits are knighting the 650S a full-time race car by means of a GT3 iteration for the Blancplain Endurance Series and a Sprint racer. Essentially a successor to the 12C GT Sprint, the 650S Sprint is also a track-only model.

The race-ready sports car comes to bridge the gap between the road-going 650S and the endurance-spec GT3 by appealing to amateur motorsport enthusiasts that spend their weekends at the track. Blending technology from both, the 650S Sprint offers the plain looks of the street-legal car spiced up by racing upgrades and a FIA-approved interior. The Continental GT arrived for the 2003 model year as the first Bentley vehicle launched under Volkswagen ’s ownership. Sold in both fastback and convertible guises, the first-generation Continental GT got its juice from a 6.0-liter W-12 engine. Many special editions and iteration followed until 2011, when the second-gen model was introduced. The redesigned grand tourer keeps its W-12 mill, but a 4.0-liter, V-8 engine was finally added to the lineup. In 2013, Bentley unveiled the Continental GT3 , a race car that marked the manufacturers return to racing. And just a year after the track-only GT3 arrived, the Brits rolled out a special-edition GT3-R coupe to pay tribute to the track-exclusive machine.

To be sold as the GT3-R beginning with the fourth quarter of 2014, the new vehicle sits atop the Continental V8 lineup, boasting more horsepower than any of its brothers, and a bevy of exclusive features and technologies. It’s also the fastest-accelerating, and the most dynamic and responsive Bentley ever built, feats that will likely help sell the 300-unit production run like hot cakes.

Adding to the GT3-R’s appeal is the fact that all examples will be hand-built at Bentley’s headquarters in Crewe before being sent off to the company’s Motorsport division for the final touches. Now let’s see what makes the GT3-R so special.

Updated 08/11/2014: The new Continental GT3-R will make its North American debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August 2014 and will start at $337,000. Deliveries will begin in the first quarter of 2015. Only 99 units will make it to the North American market.

On April 20, 2006, the world of super-light, street legal race cars became a lot richer. It was the day when the Caparo T1 was unveiled at the Top Marques auto show in Monaco. Developed by Ben Scott-Geddes and Graham Halstead, two engineers formerly involved in the creation of the McLaren F1 , the T1 was designed as a lightweight race car for the road and track. Tipping the scales at only 1,040 pounds, the Caparo, which blended styling cues specific to racing prototypes and Formula One cars, was bolted on a carbon-fiber and aluminum chassis, and fitted with a 3.5-liter, naturally aspirated V-8 engine. Generating as much as 575 horsepower at 10,500 rpm, the mill gave the T1 a power-to-weight ratio of 1,223 ponies per tonne, a figure that not even the most expensive production supercars can’t match. Performance figures are equally impressive. The incredibly light T1 needs 2.5 seconds to accelerate from naught to 60 mph and reaches a top speed of 205 mph. In 2014, eight years since its inception, Caparo is developing the T1 Evolution — a revised version meant to push T1 even further.

Details are scant as of August 2014, but Caparo has already opened the order books for the T1 Evolution. The Brits promise significant updates for the supercar, including revised aerodynamics and engines, as well as a redesigned and modern body.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is known as one of the world’s most impressive luxury four-door sedans. It’s been like that ever since it was launched in 1954, but for short periods of time, the S-Class was also offered as a two-door coupe. It first happened in 1961 and lasted for just 10 years. It returned in the 1980s as the SEC Coupe, but it disappeared again when the Germans decided to introduce the CL-Class range in 1998. Sixteen years later, the coupe body returned as part of the sixth-generation S-Class (W222), and, along with it, the Stuttgart crew launched the S63 AMG Coupe , the most powerful two-door, full-size car in Mercedes’ history.

While the S-Class Coupe hardly found any competition from its traditional BMW and Audi rivals, who have yet to develop coupes based on the 7 Series and A8 , respectively, the S65 AMG Coupe propels the Mercedes-Benz brand straight into Bentley and Rolls-Royce territory. The Merc has the power, the luxury and all the other credentials to compete with the big boys, but will it stand a chance against the best vehicles the British have to offer? There’s always a place for hot sports hatchbacks in the industry these days. The Volkswagen Golf isn’t an exception to that. This model is a certified seller for the German brand in large part because of its unique combination of hot aesthetic styling with its stellar performance capabilities.

But Volkswagen isn’t just keen on keeping the Golf stale. Sometimes, the company takes it a step further, introducing special edition models to keep the Golf fresh and appealing for its loyal fan base.

The launch of the Volkswagen Golf Match is proof of that. It’s been touted as a replacement model for the Golf SE with the added exception of it being more tricked out than the SE at no added cost. That’s incredible for fans of the Golf SE, a lot of whom already attest to the trim’s well-specified status.

Adding new features to the Golf SE is no easy task and yet, Volkswagen successfully did it by adding even more features to the Golf that customers will undoubtedly appreciate. These new features aren’t your run-of-the-mill additions, either. A lot of them, like the front and rear parking sensors, front fog lights, and mirror pack, all serve their own functions. Those mirror packs, in particular, comes with automatically folding door mirrors with puddle lights and reverse-activated dipping on the nearside. Functions, baby!

The Volkswagen Golf Match is already available to order starting at a price of $33,750 for the 1.4-liter TSI all the way up to $41,300 for the 2.0-liter TDI. Deliveries of the models are expected to commence in September.

The Bentley Mulsanne was unveiled at the 2009 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and launched in the United States for the 2010 model year. Developed as a competitor to the Rolls-Royce Ghost , the Mulsanne revived a nameplate previously used between 1980 and 1992 and replaced the Bentley Arnage . The Mulsanne remained unchanged since its introduction, with only an equipment update in 2013 and a few special-edition models keeping the luxury sedan somewhat fresh until 2014.

For 2015, the Mulsanne gains its first true facelift in five years, one that brings upgrades in the engine department as well. The venerable, 6.75-liter, V-8 mill is in for a hefty performance bump, while a re-tuned chassis comes to improve handling and responsiveness. A hotter version of the Mulsanne that takes inspiration from the Bentley GT3-R is also in the books, but the Brits are still keeping all the important details in the vault. Introduced to the public at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show and launched for the 2013 model year, the Ferrari F12berlinetta quickly became one of the most desirable grand tourers on the market. The F12 came to replace Ferrari ’s previous 2-seat berlinetta, the 599 . Built around an aluminum space frame chassis, the F12 brought numerous improvements to the 599. as it was 20 percent more rigid and 150 pounds lighter, and the new chassis also allowed Ferrari to lower the car’s center of gravity by one inch. For 2014, the F12berlinetta has spawned a special edition coming all the way from China. Dubbed Polo Edition, this unique F12berlinetta was crafted by Ferrari’s first Tailor-Made Center in Asia Pacific and reaches into the spotlight to celebrate the Chinese Year of the Horse.

This new model was inspired by the game of polo (not the fancy golf shirts), a horseback team sport played in Asia for more than 2,000 years. The one-off F12 also pays tribute to the company’s passion for speed and racing. A prancing horse that celebrates horse racing, if you will.

Ferrari Special Projects (SP) first made headlines with the release of the SP1, which was based on an F430 and designed by Leonardo Fioravanti — former Pininfarina designer. The next came in 2009 with the release of the P540 Superfast Aperta, a 599 GTB Fiorano-based, Carrozzeria Fantuzzi-designed model for Edward Watson, and the projects have continued through 2014 with the SP-FFX. Following the reveal of the SP-FFX, we caught a mysterious Prancing Horse peeking out from under a car cover that looked like it was going to be yet another SP creation. More recently, the model showed itself when Carscoops.com received another photo of the mysterious Ferrari completely uncovered. Reportedly named the Ferrari SP America and based on the F12berlinetta , the one-off supercar appears to be completed and is now headed to the loving arms of its new owner.

Nobody knows who the owner of the new one-off Ferrari is, but it’s obvious that he has a fine taste in supercars . At the very least, he doesn’t seem content with just owning a regular Ferrari. It has to be a unique one-off in the vein of the SP-FFX that we first saw in early 2014.

From the looks of things, you can tell that he’s in for a treat. Large front intakes are a unique departure from the F12berlinetta that the Ferrari Ferrari this one-off is reportedly based on. The one-off’s hood is also markedly different, carrying three small nostrils that will send more air to the engine. Larger wheels also show themselves on this photo and according to reports, a targa-style roof is also part of the car’s overall design.

Engine numbers weren’t disclosed, but if it is based on the F12berlinetta , expect to see the same 6.3-liter, V-12 engine that bangs out 740 horsepower and 508 pound-feet of torque, good for a 3.1-second 0-to-60-mph sprint time and a 211-mph top speed.
