Forget what they say, these are the glory days of muscle. Sure, carburetors and glass packs are out, but direct fuel injection, variable-flow exhaust pipes, and computers have revolutionized the way modern street and track fighters do battle. We’ve pitted three of the most purpose-built machines together to see not only which car would win on the track, but which car would be the easiest to live with on a daily basis.

The competitors all hail from the U.S. of A. and sport snarling engines making huge amounts of power, all sent to the rear wheels though a manual transmission. They’re brash and unapologetic, unforgivably fast, and diabolically cool. Though they’ve all got the performance creds, do they have what it takes to impress the missus enough for a purchase to occur?

Our three contenders are the SRT (now back to Dodge) Viper, the Chevrolet Corvette , and the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28.

In order for this to be a fair fight, we’ve got to price these cars correctly. Starting with the Viper, its base MSRP is comes in at $102,485 — well over that of the Vette and Z/28 — but considering the hard time Dodge has had selling the sultry snake, there are dealer incentives to be had. According to a few price-checking websites, a 2014 base Viper can be had in the mid $90,000 range.

The Camaro Z/28, on the other hand, starts out at $73,300 — but that’s bare-bones stock without air conditioning. Another $1,150 makes the car livable in the summertime. Its total cost comes to $76,150 after destination and the gas-guzzler tax.

The Vette represents the bargain of the bunch, coming in at $70,985 in its top-line, 3LT trim fitted with the Z51 Performance Package, Magnetic Ride, Performance exhaust, and Competition Sport seats. It may be the highest equipped here, but will its least-powerful engine be able to keep up?

Ever since Alfa Romeo announced it would bring “something new ” to the 4C with every passing year, we’ve been speculating what the Italian automaker might have up its sleeve. Though it’s pure speculation at this point, our rendering artist has put together a possible direction for a future direction, the 4C Quadrifoglio Verde.

The Quadrifoglio Verde name harks back to Alfa’s long history of performance vehicles dating back to 1923, and this car would be no different. Likely getting a slight bump in power, the coupe gets an even more aggressive body treatment with several new scoops, front and rear fascias, and accent lines.

Its front fascia gets a completely redesigned bumper with larger air intakes near the darkened headlights. Around the side, a lowered body skirt helps bring the 4C’s visual mass lower to the ground. Out back, a new lower bumper sports a new exhaust pipe design while the rear quarter panels have another cooling slot near the round taillights. Topping it all off are the iconic green cloverleaf and grey triangle badges. A new set of 10-spoke grey wheels helps complete the more aggressive look.

While it’s still unclear what Alfa has planned for its future 4C special editions, we suspect they will consist mostly of cosmetic changes, with only slight modifications to the suspension and engine.

Although the Cadillac CTS Sedan arrived with a brand new face at the 2013 New York International Auto Show , its performance-oriented cousins have yet to receive the updated look.

The entire CTS-V lineup, consisting of sedan , coupe and wagon models, charged into 2014 without major modifications, with Cadillac hoping to lure customers from BMW or Audi with more horsepower for less bucks.

That won’t change much for the first half of the 2015 model year, at least not as far as the CTS-V is concerned, as the manufacturer opted to end the current-generation model with a special edition two-door that will be available in the second half of 2014.

Only 500 of these cars will be built and sold with a number of exclusive features to complement the host of luxury amenities already offered with the CTS-V Coupe. The special edition model will provide passage between the current-generation version and the brand-new coupe that’s scheduled to break cover next year.

Along with today’s announcement of the new 2015 QX80 SUV, Infiniti also dropped a very special Limited model. The normal QX80 is far from plebian, but the QX80 Limited is sprucing up the New York Auto Show as one of the most luxurious vehicles to ever come from the Nissan group.

While the started with a very solid canvas, what Nissan managed to create for Infiniti moves the brand on the territory of its competitors and into a new market of vehicles that haven’t even arrived yet. We know that Bentley is making an SUV , and that Aston Martin may have one on the table as well, but it seems that the QX80 Limited may have beaten both of those models to the punch.

With an unprecedented amount of standard technology, convenience and luxury features, the Limited edition of the QX80 is setting a very high bar for anything that comes afterwards. If you think it feels weird to hear Bentley and Infiniti Infiniti mentioned in the same breath, read on to see the sheer amount of class and refinement crammed inside of this rolling palace.

Just like the tiny A1 and the more-powerful RS6 Avant , the Audi S6 is in for a facelift for the 2015 model year, and a fresh host of spy shots have just arrived to help us decipher what’s new on the high-performance sedan . Up front, the most notable changes will include a revised front grille flanked by a pair of headlamps sporting a new LED design. Same goes for the rear end, where a set of taillights will replace the current ones. An all around nip and tuck is also present under that camouflage, but we’ll only be able to notice it all once the production version is out in the open.

All told, don’t expect the 2015 model to change too much, but the crisp body and interior updates will keep the S6 fresh for a few more years.

Moving under the hood, the twin-turbo, 4.0-liter, V-8 engine, shared with the RS6 and the Bentley Continental GT , could see a 20-horsepower bump from the current 420-horsepower output, meaning 0 to 60 mph will drop below the current 4.5-second estimate.

The sedan won’t be unveiled until late 2014, so make sure you stick around for more spy shots and updates.

BMW has been rolling out some intense products this year, especially the new 3- and 4-Series lineups, complete in their sedan and coupe variations. Beyond that, the M version of each have stirred even more commotion in the industry, but one car was missing – The M4 Convertible. Today BMW corrects that as the German automaker divulges all the details and images of the new 2015 M4 drop top.

If you’ve read anything on the new M4 Coupe, the convertible will be highly familiar. Power still comes from the 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged inline-six that’s mated to either a six-speed manual or seven-speed M-DCT transmission. The other go-fast bits like the uncompromising suspension, massive brakes, and free-flowing exhaust are all carried over.

The big news with the car is its three-piece retractable hardtop. With the push of a button, the top folds itself like a piece of origami in just 20 seconds and at speeds up to 11 miles per hour. Cargo room has improved of the last generation M3 Convertible, gaining an extra 0.7 cubic feet of room with the top up and an impressive 7.8 cubic feet of extra room when the top is folded down. Unfortunately, the extra space and all the drop-top hardware comes at a heavy cost — an extra 525 pound cost over a comparable M4 Coupe.

The news of the M4 Convertible comes before its official debut at the 2014 New York Auto Show happening April 16. Though BMW is only jumping the gun by a few weeks, the information gives us a chance to really dig into the M4 Convertible once we see it roll across the all-important New York stage.

More details will roll out soon, so stay tuned.

Updated 04/07/2014: BMW announced that the all-new M4 Convertible will be priced at $73,425 — an increase of also $8k over the hardtop version.

Like its drop-top brother the Boxster , the Cayman has become a well-respected performer for Porsche since its introduction in 2006. Porsche has continued to update the car to keep it exciting, and it doesn’t appear to be slowing down. For 2015, both the Cayman and Boxster are getting a new range-topping trim level that adds power, better handling, and decades of heritage — the GTS package.

The GTS package adds all the right ingredients to Porsche ’s perfect recipe: more horsepower and torque from the 3.4-liter flat-six, better handling thanks to revised suspension components and the now-standard Sports Chrono package, and a unique look to set it apart from lesser Cayman trim levels.

Getting into the nitty-gritty reveals an added 15 horsepower and 7 pound-feet of torque bringing the total number to 340 horses and 280 pound-feet. Both the six-speed manual and seven-speed PDK transmissions are available. The normally optional Sports Chrono package and Active Suspension Management (PASM) on the Cayman S become standard equipment for the GTS. Still an option, but well worth it, is Porsche’s torque vectoring differential that uses a combination of braking and locking of the differential to actively put power to the ground. Click everything into sport mode and activate launch control, and the PDK-equipped Cayman will hit 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds. The Cayman’s top speed is listed at 177 mph for those equipped with the manual, however Porsche hasn’t released the PDK’s top speed figures yet.

Giving distinction between itself and the lesser Cayman and Cayman S models, the GTS features a number of dark-grey exterior accents, an interior that’s covered in Alcantara, and several GTS badges finished in the same dark grey.

As recently as a few years ago, not a lot of people talked about Jaguar as a worthy contender in the full-size luxury sedan segment. But times sure have changed and not only has Jaguar completely reinvented itself, but the likes of BMW and Mercedes are starting to understand why messing with this cat with evil intentions may not be such a good idea anymore.

The 2014 Jaguar XJ is far from the unquestioned best in its segment, but it sure has some pretty sharp claws. A new distinctive design has turned the XJ into a head-turner and when you combine that with a plush and luxurious cabin and a hefty engine under its hood, it’s become apparent that when you’re looking for a loaded luxury sedan, you’re window shopping won’t be complete without taking a long and hard look at the Jaguar XJ.

That’s how far Jaguar has come and there’s no telling the heights it can reach once people start noticing the brand even more.

Updated 08/01/2014: Jaguar announced prices on the 2015 XJ and as expected they are the same as for the 2014 model year: $74,200 for the base V-6 version and up to $119,000 for the XJR Long Wheelbase. No changes were made to both the exterior and the interior.
