BMW will be trooping to the 2012 Paris Motor Show with a presentation of their new add-on toys that are part of the M Performance Accessories. Comprised mostly of aesthetic and power kits, the accessories cover a whole range of BMW models, including the 1-Series hatch , the 3-Series Touring , and models that feature the automaker’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine.

The accessories kit comprises of various new components, including carbon finished exterior mirror caps, a choice of new wheels, diffuser inserts for the rear apron, and side sill foliations. The 1-Series 3-door hatchback and 3-Series Touring models also get a slew of new goodies in the suspension, drive, and aerodynamics departments.

As far as performance upgrades are concerned, the M Performance Accessories come with plenty of options for the 120d , the 320d , and the 520d . Likewise, the automaker’s aforementioned 2.0-liter diesel engine also gets a power upgrade from the standard 181 horsepower and 197 lb/ft of torque all the way up to 197 horsepower and 310 lb/ft of torque.

BMW has been working on a 3-cylinder variant of its Twin-Power engines for quite a while now and we have all been a little skeptical on a BMW 3-banger. Rightfully so, we must say, as the only 3-cylinder engine that really sticks in our minds is the 60-something horsepower over-sized paperweight that GM used in the Metro many years ago. If you owned one of these, you know exactly what we’re talking about.

Then again, this is BMW we’re talking about and this is the era of low-displacement-high-horsepower engines, so our hopes remain high for this Bimmer 3-pot. Well, we can finally put to rest part of the mystery behind this new engine, as BMW has just released some basic info on this line of engines.

BMW plans to release the 3-cylinder models in both gasoline and diesel power and the lineup will begin with the 1.5-liter unit that we expect to see in the Concept Active Tourer. These engines will all boast BMW’s now-famed Twin-Power technology, which introduces the power of twin turbochargers with only one twin-scroll blower.

Per the report, these 3-cylinder engines will boast between 120 horsepower and 220 horsepower, the latter we expect to see in the upcoming i8 , and between 133 and 177 pound-feet of torque when being fed gasoline. The diesel variants will feature between 80 and 180 horsepower, and 165 and 243 pound-feet of torque. From what we are seeing here, these engines will be very impressive from top to bottom; even the 80-horsepower diesel will feature a high level of torque to get it moving.

One thing that may concern buyers is the cost of producing these engines, but BMW is countering this by engineering them so like-fueled engines share 60 percent of their components and even the gas and diesel models share 40 percent of their components with one another. This helps lower the cost of production, thereby lowering the engine’s impact on your wallet.

Another part that will lighten the load on your wallet is these engines’ fuel economy, but BMW has yet to release that information. We’ll keep an eye out for that.

The Windsor Castle Concours d’Elegance is an event sponsored by Bentley that no one really pays much attention to. In fact, it just took place on September 7th-9th and there wasn’t that much buzz about it at all. That being said, it looks like the show brought together some of the most impressive supercars currently available on the market.

One of these supercars is a McLaren MP4-12C , but it was no standard McLaren. This was a "special" MP4-12C that received a nose job from McLaren ’s Special Operations division. Apparently, a number of clients were asking for more aggressive styling and so the company decided to give them what they were asking for.

The new nose was inspired by the exclusive High Sport version and includes a new color-coded front bumper made of carbon fiber with a carbon-Kevlar lower lip. McLaren also added revised vents and aerodynamic elements to replace the tire spoilers on the stock unit.

These new elements can either be ordered from the factory or installed on the already existing models upon the customer’s request. Price? Hasn’t even been announced yet.

Porsche Carrera 4 and 4S

Rowing your own gears is an artwork that takes years to gain a firm grasp of and many people never truly master it. Heel-to-toe downshifting, which is essentially the replacement for “double clutching” in older transmissions, allows you to match the engine speed to the transmission speed on the downshift. This speed matching helps eliminate embarrassing and lap-time-killing bucking as the synchros attempt to match up the speed of the engine and transmission. On top of that, it can also help extend the life of the synchros.

In most cars, heel-to-toe shifting takes careful placement of your right foot, so you can press the brake pedal and still tap the throttle lightly to increase the engine speed just before releasing the clutch. This takes loads of practice to master, if you can ever master it. If executed perfectly, your car eases into the downshift more smoothly and accelerates out of it much quicker.

Well, Porsche is now making this heel-to-toe shifting almost autonomous on several of its vehicles. We already learned that the Sports Chrono package on the 2013 Carrera 4 and 4S will boast this feature, but now reports are saying that this system will also come to the Boxster and Cayman lineups.

On the downside, you cannot fine-tune this system to meet your driving styles, like you can on the Nissan 370Z , as Porsche assumes its engineers are good enough to develop this system to cover just about any driver. Given all of their past ventures, we don’t doubt their ability one bit.

With this new addition, the Porsche lineup is showing that it is dead set on allowing its drivers to have maximum fun with minimal effort.

Leaky pipes in the automotive industry are at it again, as a poster named “dutchboy” over at Temple of Vtec decided to leak some images of the only part of the redesigned Accord we have yet to see, the interior. Sure, the images look as if they were taken with a 1940s-era camera, or maybe just a 0.3 MP camera phone, scanned through a 400 DPI scanner, printed by a dot-matrix printer, scanned again by a 400 DPI printer, then finally uploaded after being compressed enough to make it through the user’s 28.8 Kb/second internet connection in less than a day and a half, but they’re still telling images.

From these images, we can see that the driver’s side of the Accord looks good. The clock-face gauges boast a large, center-mounted speedometer flanked by the tachometer on one side and the fuel and temperature gauges on the other. The steering wheel boasts a clean setup of buttons that don’t look too overwhelming. You also get the “Start/Stop” button, an “Econ” button, and what looks to be a TPMS reset button (tire mounters of the world will rejoice over this one).

The center stack, on the other hand, looks like a blind man with a touch screen and button obsession. It’s way overloaded with two screens – one for navigation and one for HondaLink – a series of climate-control buttons and a group of audio-control buttons.

Seriously, with two touch screens, why in the world would the Accord need that many audio and HVAC controls? Shouldn’t those all use the touch screen interface? Also, the middle two sections of the center stack are nicely styled, but they come down to meet a plain-Jane center console shape. It is definitely an awkward transition.

Hopefully, the graininess of this picture is hiding some transitioning piece between the center stack and center console, or Honda is still revising it. As it stands right now, that center part of the cabin is a real eyesore.

We’ll keep a look out for better images to surface on the interior and pass them on as we find them.

The Nissan GT-R will thankfully not be the one trick pony we were all lead to believe a few months ago. Nissan has already confirmed that the company is indeed planning a new generation sports car, but that it won’t arrive for at least another five years. Wipe the tears and stifle the grunts because they’re at least going to throw us a bone with a new facelift for the 2013 model year.

The 2013 Nissan GT-R will feature significant changes to the exterior design and the engine, which is a good thing considering the long wait ahead of us for the new generation. The 2013 model year will also mark the GT-R’s sixth anniversary, making an extravagant facelift something of a certainty. All we know as of right now is that it will feature a new bumper and new headlamps. Hopefully, there’s a lot more up Nissan’s sleeve,

As for the next generation, Kazutoshi Mizuno - chief engineer and product specialist of the GT-R - said that Nissan is watching the development of the upcoming Acura NSX closely since Honda has already announced that their hybrid NSX will lap the Nurburgring faster than the GT-R. That direct hit to the GT-R should light a fire under Nissan’s rear end to make their next generation bigger and badder. Part of that more extravagant package should be a new and competitive hybrid system.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class

Mark this date on you calendar, as this is the day that you found out that Mercedes-Benz will no longer manufacture its own V-12 engines. Okay, maybe it’s not that big of a deal, considering the task of building these engines is simply being outsourced to its performance arm, AMG. This is most likely due to the fact that AMG has more models that utilize the Mercedes V-12 engine or it could be a very slick way for Mercedes to earn more customers.

This can also lead to more boutique automakers seeking help from AMG with their V-12 engines, much like Pagani did with the Huayra . Not many automakers would like to say “Yeah, we have a Mercedes engine,” but who in their right mind wouldn’t be impressed with “Our supercar boasts a V-12 AMG engine.”

Not only is the production of the engines moving to AMG, but so are the manufacturing principles. AMG believes in the one-man-one-engine system, which means that each engine has only one person touching it. According to the report, this process will be applied to even regular old Mercedes V-12 engines, not just AMG models.

The assumption is that the first Mercedes-Benz to boast of an AMG 12-cylinder engine will be the 2014 S600 , but we could see something come even sooner than that. Either way, this can be nothing but a good thing for Mercedes, we just wonder why it didn’t think of this earlier.

Such exaggerated claims of that title might fly over the head of other auto manufacturers, but not with Pagani . After all, the Italian automaker is most famous for their exclusive products that cost well over a million dollars.

So when they come out with a man bag - yep, a man bag - you know that it would feel completely out of place in the shelves of K-Mart. Looking at this fashionable money hole, the Pagani man bag draws inspiration from the shapes, styles, and the materials used on the company’s pride and joy, the Pagani Huayra.

A plethora of high-end materials were also used in the making of the bag; looking at it, there’s high-end leather, aluminum, and hold on...are there some touches of carbon fiber too?

With Pagani, you can never be all too surprised if there really is carbon fiber on that bag. Still no word on how much this man bag will cost, but rest assured, there will probably be a lot digits attached to it.

Like the actual jaguars that rely on four legs to mobilize, automaker Jaguar has introduced all-wheel-drive versions of their XJ and XF models in selected markets, alongside stars Jane Krakowski and Tracy Morgan, and figure skater Johnny Weir. The ironic thing is that the UK - Jaguar’s homeland - isn’t expected to be one of these markets as strong competition from other automakers has limited the company from increasing its 5% share of the luxury saloon market.

In any case, the XJ and XF models will retain all of their technical specs with the exception of some significant changes to the drive system, which will now use an all-wheel-drive system that will split torque equally between the front and rear wheels. Most of its power, though, will still be directed to the rear wheels in standard conditions in order to maximize the car’s overall efficiency.

In addition, the ’AWD’-badged XJ and XF models will also get the treat of receiving the company’s new 3.0-liter supercharged engine with 335 horsepower on tap and mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. This engine, according to Jaguar, will see an increase in efficiency - about 5% - from the current 5.0-liter V8s that are fitted into the current model. The more efficient powertrain will also see an improved mileage of 29 miles to the gallon. Finally, the car’s suspension set-up will also be tinkered with in order to retain the same driving feel as that of its rear-wheel-drive counterparts.

With the UK out of the question, Jaguar is looking at other markets to bring the ’AWD’ XF and XJ models, including North America, Russia, China and Continental Europe.

Almost all of the major car manufacturers are figuring out ways to go to smaller displacement engines with fewer cylinder, yet the same horsepower. This is leading to turbocharged V-6 engines replacing V-8 engines and turbo V-8s replacing V-10s and V-12s. From the looks of things, Bentley is taking a different approach.

According to reports, Bentley is moving toward larger 12-cylinder engines and away from their turbocharged V-8 engines. We’re not sure exactly why Bentley is going this route, as it is opposite of the trend, but that very well may be the only reason. This would give Bentley the exclusivity that it needs to get a leg up on its rival, Rolls Royce.

Then again, maybe Volkswagen has a slew of 6.0-liter W-12 engines left over from its W-12-powered Phaeton , which was cut from the lineup in 2012, and is deciding to fit V-8 Bentleys with this massive hunk of 444-horsepower-producing metal.

Then again, with the Azure T’s 6.8, err, we mean six-and-three-quarter-liter engine pumping out just 450 horsepower and getting 9 mpg, the 12 mpg and 444 ponies that the W-12 pumps out looks tempting. Add a little boost to it to increase the torque from its 406 pound-feet mark and you have an engine that is not only more powerful, but gets better fuel economy than the turbocharged Bentley V-8 engine.

We’ll keep an eye on this and let you know what Bentley’s plans are just as soon as we know what exactly is going on.
