Previous rumors suggested that Acura->ke10 could be finally unveiling the production version of the Acura NSX->ke307 supercar at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. However, it looks like the company decided to tease us a little bit more, as the Detroit Show only yielded another evolution of the NSX Concept. Acura did, however, confirm that this new concept could offer "a first-ever look at one possible direction for the next-generation NSX interior design."

Translated this means that the production version will look pretty much similar to all those concepts we have seen in the past few years and that when the production version finally drops onto the market, it will offer no surprises.

Just like with the previous concept versions, the new one is defined by clean, modern and simple surfacing, and the interior was founded on a "Human Support Cockpit" theme.

Exterior and interior

"This further evolution of the Acura NSX Concept design is remarkably true to the original concept styling," said Mike Accavitti, vice president of national marketing operations. "We're making great progress in delivering on the expectations we created a year ago, with advanced technology that will bring new levels of performance and a unique, dynamic experience to the exotic sports car market."

The new NSX Concept features the same clean, modern and simple surfacing as the previous models. The interior has been built around Acura's new "Human Support Cockpit" theme and it also offers a preview on the potential Acura NSX interior design

Acura opted for outstanding visibility, an exotic driving position and offers an intuitive "Simple Sports Interface" that allows the driver to focus on the driving experience.

Engine

Under the hood, Acura has placed an all-new Sport Hybrid SH-AWD three-motor, high-performance hybrid system that combines a V-6 engine with two electric motors driving the front wheels. The engine is mated to an all-new dual-clutch transmission and, thanks to the new SH-AWD system, it sends negative or positive torque to the front wheels during cornering to achieve a new level of driving performance.

When can I Drive One?

The new Acura NSX will be produced at Honda's new production facility in central Ohio most likely starting 2014. Prices will be announced closer to market launch.

Competition

Most of you likely think that the production version Acura NSX will target models from Ferrari or Lamborghini, but we consider the production version of the Lexus LF-LC a more appropriate competitor. That's mostly based on the NSX's price which has been rumored to be a little bit north of $100k.

The LF-LC is rumored to be offered with a hybrid powertrain which will combine a small four-cylinder gasoline engine with a turbocharger in the front and electric booster motors between the transmission and engine.

The upcoming BMW i8 is also a strong competitor for the NSX. It will arrive sometime this year and will also be offered with a hybrid powertrain. In the i8 it will combine a 1.5-liter in-line three-cylinder engine with two electric motors for a final output of about 400 horsepower.
