2010 Acura TL to be offered with 6-speed manual transmission

2010 Acura TL to be offered with 6-speed manual transmission

The Acura TL has always been a nice luxury car for the money, but not usually considered a full performance alternative to the BMW 5-Series. Now it seems Honda’s luxury division is taking a step to change that by announcing that the 2010 TL will be offered with all-new 6-speed manual transmission.

Although this is not the first time a six-speed manual has been offered by Acura, there are two important distinctions. First, the new transmission has closer ratios for shorter shifts, while weighing approximately 110 lbs less than the Sequential SportShift automatic transmission. Second, this is the first time the manual will be available with the all-wheel drive system. The combination may not seem like much, but a true car enthusiasts never prefer full automatic transmissions, and Acura’s investment into a manual gearbox may signal the first sign of a serious war with the Germans.

Acura will add an all-new vehicle before the NSX

Acura will add an all-new vehicle before the NSX

Last time when Acura unveiled an all-new vehicle was back in 2006 when the RDX small crossover joined the lineup. But the company wants to become a "tier 1 luxury brand," so they need a little more help. And it seems they will get it from an all-new vehicle that will be unveiled by 2010, before the NSX will join line-up. With the new model, Acura wants to compete with models from BMW and Mercedes.

"We will look at smaller segments," said Acura’s Product Planning Manager John Watts . "There is potential for a coupe like the CL." Some sources say Acura will offer a four-seat sports coupe, priced in the $50,000 range that may also will come in a retractable hard top convertible version.

2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spider GT - most toxic new car smell

2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spider GT - most toxic new car smell

“That new car smell” has been long been an underlying selling point of cars. It helps describe the joy of being the first to wear in a car. But now it may also be the way you describe how you got your latest health concern. Last week, the Ecology Center released its 2nd annual consumer guide to toxic chemicals in cars and children’s car seats (www.HealthyCar.org). Of the cars tested, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Spider GT scored the worst (highest contaminants), and the Acura RDX scored the best (lowest).

Chemicals of primary concern include: bromine (associated with brominated flame retardants); chlorine (indicating the presence of polyvinyl chloride, or PVC and phthalates); lead; and heavy metals. Such chemicals have been linked to a wide range of health problems such as allergies, birth defects, impaired learning, liver toxicity, and cancer.

The Ecology Center’s study breaks down results by make or car category. So, before you take a big whiff from your new automotive purchase, you may want to know what’s getting into you.

2010 Acura NSX will be priced around $160,000

2010 Acura NSX will be priced around $160,000

The Acura NSX is two years away from its official launch, but we can already imagine how it look like, and more than that what engine will get and what price will have.

Inside Line reports the car will have a price somewhere around $160,000, right on top of its rivals: Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Maserati Gran Turismo and Jaguar XKR.

The NSX will get a 5.5-liter V10 generating upwards of 600 horsepower and 433 pound-feet of torque. At low speed the V10 deactivates five cylinders to save fuel and lower emissions. The V10 is bolted to a quick-shifting six-speed dual-clutch transmission driving the rear wheels, while a revised version of Honda’s Super Handling AWD system generates the car’s prodigious grip levels, enabling such a quick ’Ring lap time.

2009 Acura TL caught on the street

2009 Acura TL caught on the street

Acura will unveil the 2009 TL this fall. After the car’s first official image, a very lucky guy caught it on the streets. Happily he posted the images on Flickr, so we can also enjoy them.

The 2009 TL will be offered in two distinct versions, icluding the first ever application of Super Handling All-Wheel Drive on TL. Under the hood there will be the most powerful Acura engine ever, probably same 3,7 liter engine used in the RL that develops 300 hp.

2010 Acura NSX will be lighter than the GT-R

Acura is getting ready to launch its new NSX. It will be revealed in 2010 and will compete with he Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Maserati GranTurismo and Jaguar XKR.

It will be powered by a 5.5-litre V10 engine that will deliver 600bhp and around 600Nm of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed twin-clutch gearbox.

The NSX will have a weight of around 1,500kg – that’s over 250kg less than the recently launched Nissan GT-R.

More about the 2010 Acura NSX

7Tune brings new details about the 2010 NSX. According to the Japanese Magazine the 5.5L V10 engine will use VCM (Variable Cylinder Management) which is a direct result of increasing oil prices. This system shut down one bank of cylinders in constant speed driving situations which will reduce its capacity to 2.75 liters.

Torque has been confirmed at 60.0kg/m and a massive output of 600ps through all four wheel is expected to be produced.

A big news is that the 5.5L V10 engine may make an appearance in a special Acura RL model. This could be a 4-door NSX version, but we will need to wait and see.

The Acura NSX will follow its predecessor and have different sized wheels and tires, with Bridgestone RE070R 255/30R19 up front and 295/35R20 at the rear.

Top speed will be around 186 mph.
