Alfa-Romeo Giulietta

The Giulietta was a classic model from the 1950s and is Alfa Romeo’s compact hatch successor to Alfa Romeo’s 147. The modern Giulietta is styled after the 8C Competizione super car with its trilobe shape and modern inverted triangle grill flanked on either side by a pair of oversized air intakes. Available in both gasoline and diesel configurations, the top of the line Giulietta will be the Quadrifoglio Verde 1750 TBi producing 235 HP.

2011 Alfa Romeo Giulietta G430 iMove Marangoni

We don’t usually see auto brands like Alfa Romeo get dressed in green tires, so when somebody decides to do it – props to Marangoni – we jump on the opportunity to know more about it.

Based on the Alfa Romeo 1750 Quadrifoglio Verde that has had its fair share of modifications, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta G430 iMove Marangoni is a testament to an aggressive sports hatch being given randy dandy aerodynamic and aesthetic upgrades. Heck, these guys were nice enough to even include a Segway i2 a dashboard-integrated iPad and its own Internet connection.

Marangoni’s M-Power tires were used on the car and the green color wrapped around them came as a result of using compounds with high silica content and other innovative materials. Aside from being an aesthetic quirk, this colorful addition actually serves a meaningful purpose by minimizing rolling resistance and, consequently, saving up on fuel consumption.

Details after the jump.

The Finalists For The European Car of the Year

3.

In the glorious country that is the United States of America, we have an interesting and ineffective way of naming our favorite vehicles. It seems every magazine - and sometimes states - gets to name their favorite car of the year. While this can be great for the automaker’s advertising, it can confuse the public just a tad. What car is better here, the winner of Magazine A or Magazine B?

In Europe, things go a bit smoother. Seven different publications from seven different countries pick what they think is the best car of the year. It takes a few months, but in the end you get one winner, which was the Opel Insignia last year.

The finalists for this year came down to the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, Citroën C3/DS3, Renault/Dacia Duster, Ford C-Max/Grand C-Max, Nissan Leaf, Opel/Vauxhall Meriva, and Volvo S60/V60.

If those are the choices, we choose the Alfa. The Volvo puts up a strong case, but nothing compares to that Italian soul and passion. Despite our pick, we doubt the jurors will feel the same.

So which vehicle do you think deserves to be Car of the Year? Hit us up in the comments section below.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta SS rendered

Between 1959 and 1965 Alfa Romeo produced the special edition Giulietta SS which was a 2-door sports coupe model powered by a 91 HP inline-four engine. During its life time the company only produced 2,766 units, but, now that Alfa Romeo has brought back the Giulietta name, it is expected that an SS version (Sprint Speciale) will follow adding to the number of units created for the special edition.

The anticipated SS would be fit to feature a a smooth, 2-door Gran Turismo body designed by Bertone and would be, in fact, a small 8C Competizione.

The Giulietta is offered with a choice of two gas burning engines. The first is the 1.4TB making 120 HP and the 1.4TB MultiAir that cranks out a total of 170 HP. There will also be two alternatively fueled diesel engines, the 1.6 JTDM pumping out 105 HP and the 2.0 JTDM that makes 170 HP. However it is expected that the SS version would develop at least 250 HP and feature a sportier appearance.

Video: Uma Thurman stars in new Alfa Romeo Giulietta advertising campaign

Sure, Audi has Justin Timberlake, but Alfa Romeo’s bringing in their own A-list celebrity to be their key endorser. She comes in the form of the uber hot Uma Thurman. Famous for her roles in Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction, and My Superhero Girlfriend (ok, maybe not famous for the last one), Thurman and Alfa Romeo have teamed up for a new advertising campaign centered on the car brand’s new Giulietta hatchback, which will debut on Italian television on May 16.

The whole campaign, which was created by well-known ad agency Leo Burnett, will feature a host of ad campaigns on a variety of mediums including TV, press, posters, radio, web. The campaign will also be featured across the board throughout the major markets of Alfa Romeo in Europe.

Details behind what Leo Burnett and Alfa Romeo are cooking are still being kept inside the kitchen although we’ve heard that Thurman will play the parts of five different women, all of whom are said to symbolize the different souls of the Giulietta. It should be an interesting campaign to keep an eye on in the coming months, even more so because Uma Thurman is in it.

2010 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Safety Car

Alfa Romeo’s new Giulietta will enter the race track as a Safety Car at the Superbike World Championship, scheduled on May 22-23, 2010. The Safety Car will come with a Rosso Competizione exterior paint job which will be the only one available considering the Rosso Competizione was removed from the catalog due to issues with the supplier. The red color will be obtainable again next November when it becomes a part of the color lineup again.

The Giulietta Safety Car will be powered by a 1.75-liter TBi petrol engine that develops a total of 235 HP. The car will be distinguished by a special front spoiler and side sills which will be available to order from the Lineaccessori catalog, and, of course, the Safety car logo on the doors.

This model will also be used as a Safety Car in competitions like the Superstock 600 European Championship, the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup, and the Mondiale Supersport.

The Alfa Romeo Giulietta began its run as a safety car when it made a few laps around the Monza alongside the 8C Competizione, the halo car for Alfa Romeo.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta not coming to the US market

alfa romeo giulietta not coming to the us market picture

Even if Alfa Romeo will return to the US market, the Italian company announced the newest addition to the line-up - Giulietta - will not. The dangling carrot that was the Giulietta has been held in front of our nose for a little while now and now has been yanked away with no apparent substitution readily available. The announcement has been made by Richard Gadeselli, vice president of communications for Fiat Group Automobiles SpA: "There are no plans at present to export the Alfa Romeo Giulietta to the North American market." So, what does this mean? Will the Giulietta never make it to US or is this decision only for the time being?

Considering the company has said the cars will be sold in "all the major markets," we still have hopes to get the Giulietta here at some point. It may not be until far in the future, but we’re still hoping. Maybe there is a chance to chomp on the carrot after all.

On the European market, the Giulietta will be offered with a choice of two gas burning engines. The first is the 1.4TB making 120 HP and the 1.4TB MultiAir that cranks out a total of 170 HP. There will also be two alternatively fueled diesel engines; the 1.6 JTDM pumping out 105 HP and the 2.0 JTDM that produces 170 HP, both belonging to FIAT’s second generation JTDM, turbo diesel engines. The top of the line Giulietta will be the 1750 TBi that develops a maximum output of 235 HP and will come with Alfa’s racy Quadrifoglio Verde trim package.

2011 Alfa Romeo Giulietta

Even if all eyes are on the new cars being unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the Italian automaker Alfa Romeo has decided that this would be the perfect moment to offer consumers a preview of the future Giulietta compact hatch. The vehicle is currently set to be officially revealed in 2010 at the Geneva Motor Show, but we think Alfa Romeo may have seen a little bit of opportunity emerge. Most expected for the 147’s successor to be called the Milano, however Alfa decided to bring back a name from the fifties: "The Giulietta is a car that, in the fifties, caught the imagination of generations of car enthusiasts, making the dream of owning an Alfa Romeo and enjoying the high level of comfort and technical excellence accessible for the first time."

The Giulietta speaks the same design language as the 8C Competizione super car with its trilobe shape and modern take on the classic inverted triangle classic Alfa grill set front and center in the front bumper and flanked on either side by a pair of oversized air intakes. When it goes on sale in the spring of 2010, the Giulietta will be offered with a choice of two gas burning engines. The first is the 1.4TB making 120 HP and the 1.4TB MultiAir that cranks out a total of 170 HP. There will also be two alternatively fueled diesel engines, the 1.6 JTDM pumping out 105 HP and the 2.0 JTDM that makes 170 HP, both belonging to FIAT’s second generation JTDM, turbo diesel engines. Alfa Romeo releases promo video of all-new Giullieta

Alfa Romeo’s new Giulietta has become quite a conversation-starter since it debuted at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show and the Italian manufacturer is quick to capitalize on this buzz by releasing a promo video for the new premium hatchback.

The two-and-something-minute video highlights the Giulietta’s ancestry while also looking at the high-end technological capabilities of the new model. It’s the perfect way to get to know the Giulietta’s present make while also understanding the rich history it has as one of Alfa Romeo’s most successful models.

The new Giulietta – it’s quite a handful to spell, to be honest – comes with a number of powertrain options ranging from a 1.6-liter diesel that produces 105 horsepower to a more powerful 1.7-liter turbocharged petrol engine with an output of 235 horsepower.
