The new Milano will share its platform with the future Alfa 159 (or Giulia as it is more commonly known). The platform, called C-Evo, will be available in both front and four wheel drive layouts. With the 4WD version reserved for future GTA models.

Under the hood Alfa Romeo will use both four and six cylinder engines to power the Milano, making 120 and 265 HP respectively.

The next generation Alfa Romeo Milano has been caught testing on the streets and the race racetrack by our friends at World Car Fans. If the production model is offered with those rally inspired O.Z. style multispoke rims, the Italian automaker will have something very fashionable bringing car shoppers into their showrooms.

Despite the amount of automotive camouflage, the inverted triangle grill is a signature of the Alfa Romeo and a dead giveaway to this 147 replacement. At first the bright round taillights make the FIAT five door look like something else, but at the end of the video, when the light hits the hatch just right, you can see the rest of the lamp.

The Italian automaker Alfa Romeo will unveil the successor to their compact 147 model at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the new baby Alfa will be called Milano, after the fashion capital, the car will take its design inspiration from models like the Alfa 8C Competizione super car, with its classic Alfa Romeo front end defined by sporty details like the inverted triangle shaped grill.

The new Milano will share its platform with the next generation Alfa 159, or Giulia as it is more commonly known. Alfa Romeo’s successor to the 147, the Milanois nearing the end of its development by the Italian automaker. Set to debut this summer, the compact Alfa should be a serious competitor for models like Volkswagen Golf and the new Opel Astra.

The 2010 Alfa Milano is built on the same platform as the Fiat Bravo and will be styled after the popular Alfa MiTo; featuring compact driving lights and round LED lit taillights that protrude from the rear sheet metal.

Under the hood Alfa Romeo will be using a 1.4 Liter turbocharged motor as well as a 1.9 Liter diesel burning unit. Outputs should range from 120 HP to 250 HP. In either case, the four cylinder engines will be shifted through a six speed manual transmission.

Here’s a quick recipe for a rendering of the Alfa Romeo Milano GTA: start with the spy shots, take a few hints from the teaser image, and then photoshop what was learned over the MiTo GTA photos. While this formula would normally not earn a spot on our page, the result from an Alfa Blog submitter was done strikingly well.

As Alfa Romeo changes the remaining number cars to names, the Milano will be the replacement for the 147. This will be an entry into the luxury small car market, so the Milano’s name competition will be models like the Audi A3 range. We expect the engine lineup to include four and six cylinder engines starting at 120 hp and topping out with the GTA at about 265 hp.

Alfa Romeo is preparing a successor for the 147. As Alfa’s evolution goes we were predicting it would be called the 149, but last month Chrysler accidentally revealed that number scheme was going out the door.

Now we know its planned to be called Milano, and that there are plans to sell it in the U.S. If this teaser image is to be believed, it would will be a welcomed rival to cars like the Audi A3. Although we can’t see much, the linage to the little brother MiTo is obvious. When this curvy little car finally breaks cover, we expect a lineup that includes four and six cylinder engines making 120 to 265 hp.
