2011 Alfa Romeo 4C GTA Concept

With only a teaser image to go on days before the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, everyone was thrilled to see Alfa Romeo unveil the 4C GTA Concept. According to Alfa Romeo, the 4C GTA is "a compact supercar" which represents the true essence of a sports car and is in line with the brand’s values: performance, Italian style, and technical excellence aimed at maximum driving pleasure in total safety."

The 4C GTA concept is inspired by models like the 8C Competizione and 8C Spider models, but takes their design a step forward. While the two models were focusing on obtaining more power, the 4C GTA Concept’s focus is on weight reduction thanks to the extensive use of carbon.

The concept is powered by a "4 cylinder" 1750 Turbo Petrol engine that delivers an impressive 200 HP that sprints the car to an impressive 155 mph.

UPDATE 08/30/2011: A few months ago, it was rumored that Alfa Romeo would bring an updated version of the 4C GTA Concept to the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Unfortunately, the first details revealed suggest that the only "update" the concept will receive is a new "Fluid Metal" livery that dynamically enhances the smooth, curvy, and original lines of the car. The company has also confirmed that a production version will follow in in 2013. The car will weight around 1873 lbs and will deliver up to 200 HP and a weight to power ratio less than 4 kg/HP.

UPDATE 09/16/2011: During the Alfa Romeo 4C GTA official debut in Frankfurt, the company officials have confirmed that the production version will follow in 2013 and will most likely be the first model to be sold by Alfa Romeo in the USA. Alfa plans to build 15,000 to 20,000 units of the 4C coupe over five years and another 5,000 to 10,000 roadsters will be built by Abarth. In Europe, prices will start from about about 45,000 euros, around $61,000 at the current exchange rates. (AutomotiveNews)

Exterior and Interior

Alfa Romeo 4C GTA Concept

Inspired by the 8C models, the 4c GTA is distinguished by its graceful and clean external lines, but also by an on-board design that maintains features and devices which directly reflect the car’s sporting spirit.

Thanks to the extensive use of carbon fiber the concept weight only 850 kilos. The chassis supports a body crafted completely from carbon, inside which there is space for the driver and passenger, while the rear frame structure and the crash boxes use aluminum extensively. This layout has improved the vehicle’s center of gravity offering an increased agility and drivability on the most challenging roads.

The 4c GTA concept is powered by a "4 cylinder" 1750 Turbo Petrol engine located centrally in the rear of the vehicle and mated to a new automatic "Alfa TCT" twin dry clutch transmission. With a total output of 200 HP, the engine will sprint the concept from 0 to 60 mph in just 5 seconds, while top speed goes up to 155 mph.

The concept also comes with an extremely sophisticated suspension layout (high quadrilateral at the front, MacPherson at the rear) that combined with a rear-wheel drive system offers a weight distribution of 40% on the front axle and 60% on the rear axle.

Alfa Romeo has announced that the 4C GTA is not only a design exercise, but it will go into production in 2012 in an attempt to reinforce Alfa Romeo’s global growth. The new model will be the first Alfa Romeo offered in the US and will hop onto the market in late 2012.

Alfa plans to build 15,000 to 20,000 units of the 4C coupe over five years and another 5,000 to 10,000 roadsters will be built by Abarth. In Europe, prices will start from about about 45,000 euros, around $61,000 at the current exchange rates.

At this point, the only notable comparison for the 4C GTA is the KTM X-Bow itself. We’ve already touched on the overall weight of the two cars and as far as powertrain is concerned, the X-Bow has an Audi-sourced inline four-cylinder TFSI engine with around 220 horsepower on it with upgrades that can take the output all the way up to 300 horsepower. As for the price tag, the 300 horsepower version of the X-Bow retails for around $55,000, which is just around the ball park range of the expected price of the 4C GTA.

Alfa Romeo 4C GTA Concept
  • Carbon fiber body
  • Impressive exterior look
  • only 850 kilos
  • Not enough power for a sports car
  • The rear doesn’t look that impressive

Impressive platform and styling for a concept car! The fact that its body is made in carbon fiber, I’m expecting it to be one of the fastest cars. smiley

Alfa Romeo Sports car is kinda perfect, this one is so impressive. It has a complete physical look and also in this inside feature.

The concept of compact supercar sounds new to me. I was thinking of what’s that all about. Anyway, I was really impressed with the figure performance of the vehicle. It seems that the reduction using carbon fiber helps a lot to boost the power output of the car. I can’t wait for its debut in the Frankfurt Motor Show.

I can see on how Alfa Romeo exerted a lot of effort to build a unique platform and styling for this car. I can see that there’s an improvement in the aerodynamic of the vehicle. And then they have put more lines in the front hood of the vehicle. So, many thanks on the carbon material for sure this car will produce an amazing speed.

This concept really had an angst but I must agree with them that the platform design is not really impressive. I think the article was on saying that it is a supercar.

The carbon fiber body and the uniqueness of the exterior design of this concept is really impressive. Looking at this I must agree with the article said that it is a powerful car.

It seems that the carbon-fiber material used in the car that causes its dropped weight is just useless for it produced a less powerful output. I wonder if an aftermarket version will fix this problem? BTW, I think the racing-bred car like the KTM would be better!

I would say that the car look so amazing and sporty on the front. However, the engineer seems to forget its rear. I wasn’t impressed with the speed performance of the 4C GTA. Together with the Zagato, this car is just a pointless production.

I thought that this 4C GTA concept of Alfa Romeo came from the game Grand Theft Auto. By the way, I like the exterior of the car but the performance output is not that impressive. I’d rather choose KTM-X Bow, which is not so pricey and much better output.

I just have a tiny-little problem...
Who the hell are this car competitors?!?!
Interesting direction is the Mazda MX-5... but who knows?!?

This car is light, which does not reach a ton. Its output power is not that impressive. I don’t think this can a win a race it looks good outside, but maybe they need more upgrade on this car. That will surely help.

Yeah! I have to agree that this car has an impressive look and power performance. However, I don’t think that its fair to compete this car in a KTM !

hmm. I’m glad to know that Alfa Romeo 4C GTA is already out for production. I like the rendering of this car for it boosted power was amazing.

hmm. I’d rather wait for the aftermarket version of this car than considering to buy its production version. However, I wonder why KTM is the possible competitor of this car?

How come that they never made an impressive boost power for this car.
Its less powerful for a sporstcar! I know Alfa Romeo can upgrade its performance greater
than what it has now.

hmm. It seem that Alfa looks clean and simple. I cant see more details on the car, its so plain. However,I just wonder why does the sprint of this car is good and yet the power is less powerful.

Oh yes! Its less powerful for a sportscar and yet its light. I think they need to upgrade the engine or else I will consider this model to be a piece of a junk!

Well, i guess Peter_Sepreani , they are considering this one to be line up for their future production. I find the concept kind of interesting. I can’t wait to test drive this car.

Good to see a very kinky in style,It really strange creations and i can say a very unique one. It will be soon grow and popularized.

Well, the concept actually looks good on paper, but I am not really sure how well the actual car really is. But knowing Alfa Romero, they will be able to pull this one off.
