The Alfa Romeo Giulia was a compact car produced between 1962 and 1978 in both sedan and station wagon body styles. The vehicle was offered in various trim levels, with a choice of gasoline and diesel four-bangers. Alongside the sedan and the wagon, Alfa also sold a number of stylish two-door coupes and convertibles under the Giulia nameplate. These were rebadged versions of earlier Giulietta models. The Giulia range also included the TZ race car, the GTA sports coupe. Axed for more than 35 years, the Giulia moniker is about to make a spectacular comeback to the Alfa Romeo range. Just like its predecessor, the new Giulia will take on the compact segment, currently dominated by the likes of the BMW 3 Series and the Audi A4 .

Scheduled to show itself to the world in 2015 and hit dealerships for the 2016 model year, the modern Giulia marks the return of the sporty, rear-wheel-drive Alfa Romeos. I think we can all agree this is great news!

Fortunately, the fine folks over at Diseno-Art.com created renderings of the upcoming Giulia. Additionally, according to a tipster who has seen images of the new Giulia, these renderings are the closest to the real thing he’s seen on the Interwebz.

The Alfa Romeo 6C name, one that’s related to many race cars, sports cars and grand tourers built between 1929 and 1954, is about to make a spectacular return to the company’s lineup. At least that’s the word from Auto Express, who claims the Italians are working on a 6C sports car that will compete against the Jaguar F-Type . The report goes on to say that the 6C will be based on the Maserati Alfieri , which rides on the same platform that underpins the Ghibli sedan .

Alfa Romeo will borrow more than just the platform, Auto Express adds. The sports car will slot above the 4C and will borrow its twin-turbo, 3.0-liter V-6 from the Ghibli. The six-banger will reportedly deliver between 480 and 520 horsepower, a figure that will push the 6C into F-Type V-8 and Porsche 911 Turbo territory. Exciting news, yes, but make sure you keep that salt shaker within reach until further notice.

If such a vehicle makes it into production, it will likely arrive in 2017, a year after the Maserati Alfieri hits dealerships. Assembly will be limited to a few thousand units.

According to the great Jeremy Clarkson, you can’t be a true petrol-head until you’ve owned an Alfa Romeo. That always posed a problem for many American car enthusiasts. See, Alfa Romeo hasn’t really sold any cars here since the 90’s and even then they were very few and far between. Sure, we got the beautiful 8C Competizione, but that was only for a handful of lucky millionaires. The 4C has already come to the U.S. but even that is too expensive and exclusive for the average buyer. Fortunately, though, for us average ’Mericans, Alfa hasn’t forgotten us. The Giulia is coming in 2015 and it’s a rear-wheel drive sedan, most likely powered by one of Fiat’s turbo four cylinder engines, and a GTA version will follow it across the pond.

The Giulia is going to be the car that Alfa Romeo uses to reintroduce the brand to the US. It should be sized and priced to compete with the BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes C-Class . The big news however is the announcement of a "hot" version, called the Giulia GTA. The GTA’s main focus will be to take on the M3 and upcoming C63 AMG .

Every now and again, we’re reminded of just how fun driving can be. Simple, purpose-built cars are often the best way of getting this reminder. The Alfa Romeo 4C is one of those cars. Its light curb weight and moderate power means its power to weight ratio is sublime. Its sport exhaust is missing a muffler but possesses a seductive roar. Its manual steering communicates every ripple in the road. These types of vehicles don’t come around too often at an affordable price, but somehow, Alfa has done it.

In the video above, MotorTrend’s Carlos Lago takes the 4C out for track testing and spirited cruising long the Pacific Coast Highway. The 4C posted some pretty respectable numbers at the track, as 60 mph came in 4.1 seconds and the quarter mile happened in 12.7 seconds at 106.7 mph. It also held an impressive 0.94 g of lateral acceleration and stopping from 60 mph took a mere 97 feet. Those numbers come darn close to supercar stats, especially considering the 4C’s starting price of just $55,195 and its 1.7-liter, turbocharged inline-four is only producing 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.

Even more impressive is the 4C’s fun factor. Its loud exhaust and quick-shifting six-speed twin-clutch transmission make for a thrilling ride. Add to that its mid-mounted engine location and curb weight of only 2,437 pounds and you’ve got a recipe for perfection.

With Alfa Romeo finally selling its 4C within U.S. borders after countless years of delays and setbacks, it appears the Italian brand is getting its vehicle development plans into high gear. Alfa says it will launch eight fresh models by 2018, two of which will be SUVs. Though nothing is set in stone — as usual with Alfa — the first SUV will debut for 2016 and directly compete with The Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Lexus NX.

The trio will provide plenty of competition, but Alfa – under the direction of the Fiat /Chrysler team – plans to offer a turbocharged V-6 that cranks out 500 horsepower. Also joining the engine lineup will be a milder six-cylinder, a four-cylinder, and a diesel. While it’s unlikely the diesel will wash ashore here in the States, it’s expected to generate some 350 horsepower.

Alfa Romeo’s second upcoming SUV is expected to be roughly the same size as the Volvo XC90. This will act as the automaker’s flagship SUV. Both the XC90- and X3-sized Alfa SUVs are said to ride on the same platform. The architecture allows for both rear- and all-wheel-drive setups, while enjoying a sporty, 50/50 weight distribution. There’s no word on whether that 50/50 balance goes for the rear drive or AWD model, but the added AWD weight would likely skew it in either direction.

Past rumors have suggested that platform would be borrowed from the Jeep Grand Cherokee, but there’s no telling what Alfa’s got up its sleeve. We just hope Alfa doesn’t delay its SUV as it did the 4C. Like Fiat, Alfa has a huge potential market here in the U.S. with a dealer network already in place. However, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne is quoted saying Alfa will never be built outside Italy as long as he’s in charge.

The Alfa Romeo 4C has just barely become available to buy here in the States, but the masterminds in Italy are already working on the next big thing. According to Car and Driver that next big thing is squeezing even more power from the car’s 1.8-liter engine. In a conversation with Fiat ’s R&D chief Harald Wester, he told C&D that “We are only at 136 horsepower per liter, so there is space.” But don’t look for a manual transmission any time in the future.

With the car ’s carbon-fiber tub, Wester doesn’t worry about chassis stiffness, saying the most needed change to handle the increased power would be larger brakes.

While the potential for more power is exciting, Wester did bring some bad news as well; there will basically never be a manual transmission. This is due to the unique design of the car’s carbon-fiber monocoque construction. Wester said, “It messes up the entire architecture, and it would ruin the monocoque.”

Ouch.

Regardless, I have yet to hear anything but raving about the 4C’s performance, and giving just a little extra boost in the horsepower department should make for an even more entertaining ride.

In 2011, Alfa Romeo debuted an all-new sports car that it dubbed the 4C . Upon initial inspection, this beastly compact model looked to be more of a "future styling" concept, which means it will never see production. However, as time went on, Alfa Romeo decided to make the 4C a reality. Even better, Alfa Romeo plans to release the 4C in the U.S., making it the first U.S.-sold Alfa Romeo since the 2008 8C .

The 4C takes its name from Alfa Romeo’s storied racing tradition. The company first used the 8C and 6C names back in the 1930s and 1940s for both racing and road-going version. The 4C name is a clear indication that it has been inspired by the sports cars of yesteryear, like the 8C that it borrows the carbon fiber, aluminum and rear-wheel-drive configuration from.

Alfa Romeo’s arrival in North America has moved one step closer to becoming a reality after the Italian automaker announced the first 86 dealerships in the U.S. and Canada. The announcement is the latest piece of evidence that the company’s long-awaited return to North America will finally go on as scheduled.

All in all, 33 states in the U.S. will receive an Alfa Romeo dealership. Of those 33, California received the most number of dealerships at 12 with Texas a close second with 10 and Florida with nine. Other major auto markets also received a handful of dealerships, including Michigan (5), Ohio (4), Virginia (4), and Illinois (3). On the flip side, New York received only one dealership, which is a little surprising to say the least.

As for Canada, the entire country was given four dealerships, including two in Quebec and one for both Ontario and Vancouver.

Alfa Romeo is expected to announce more franchises later this year. But for now, these 86 dealers will get first dibs on selling new Alfa Romeo models in their market, including the 4C and the limited edition 4C Launch Edition .

Get ready, North America, Alfa Romeo is set to return!

Ever since Alfa Romeo announced it would bring “something new ” to the 4C with every passing year, we’ve been speculating what the Italian automaker might have up its sleeve. Though it’s pure speculation at this point, our rendering artist has put together a possible direction for a future direction, the 4C Quadrifoglio Verde.

The Quadrifoglio Verde name harks back to Alfa’s long history of performance vehicles dating back to 1923, and this car would be no different. Likely getting a slight bump in power, the coupe gets an even more aggressive body treatment with several new scoops, front and rear fascias, and accent lines.

Its front fascia gets a completely redesigned bumper with larger air intakes near the darkened headlights. Around the side, a lowered body skirt helps bring the 4C’s visual mass lower to the ground. Out back, a new lower bumper sports a new exhaust pipe design while the rear quarter panels have another cooling slot near the round taillights. Topping it all off are the iconic green cloverleaf and grey triangle badges. A new set of 10-spoke grey wheels helps complete the more aggressive look.

While it’s still unclear what Alfa has planned for its future 4C special editions, we suspect they will consist mostly of cosmetic changes, with only slight modifications to the suspension and engine.

The Alfa Romeo 4C still hasn’t arrived in the U.S. and yet, company executives are already thinking of building more performance-oriented versions of the low-volume sports car. Company CEO Harald Wester made the proclamation, telling Automotive News that while the 4C already has the makings of an impressive sports car , there’s still plenty of room for improvement, especially if it wants to be as big of a hit in the U.S. market as it is in Europe.

This rationale looks to confirm Alfa’s previous announcement that it plans to make annual updates of the 4C in the next four or five years, including the possibility of even building a more performance-oriented version that could appeal to a U.S. market that prefers sports cars that also have the added luxury appeal.

One of the first things Wester brought up was the potential for the 4C’s chassis to handle more power while also tinkering with the car’s turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. "We are only at 134 horsepower per liter, so there is space," Wester told Automotive News.

As for the U.S.-spec 4Cs, Alfa remains cognizant in its belief that offering a European-spec 4C to a U.S. market is a bad business move. That’s why it’s building a different spec 4C that has better equipment to go along with its own share of technical changes. That includes putting in place a different monocoque, reinforcing the suspension, and adding new and improved headlights that we all first saw on the 4C Spider .

Or in the words of Wester, "a significant overhaul."

With all these changes expected for the U.S.-spec Alfa Romeo 4C, you can be sure that the cars are going to command a steep price. Alfa has yet to announce the price, but reportedly the base 4C will retail for about $55,000 with a top-of-the-line, fully-loaded model fetching close to $70,000.
