Video: The Story of The AMG F1 Safety Cars

Mercedes AMG has unveiled a cool video presenting Bernd Mayländer, official Formula One Safety Car Driver, talking about his old and new Safety Cars. The video was shot in an old barn, as he explains technical details and tells of his personal experiences, starting from the 1999 CLK 55 AMG and to the current SLS AMG GT. From his list there are two big absences: the SL55 and the SL63.

The latest Safety Car is the 2013 SLS AMG GT F1 Safety Car. It is powered by the same V-8 engine found in the road-going version, which delivers a total of 591 horsepower. The safety car also receives a high-performance ceramic-composite brake system and weight-reducing AMG 10-spoke forged light-alloy wheels.

He also talks about the 2012 racing season, when, for the first time in history, a season finale was ended by a Safety Car.

2013 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Limited Edition

Less than a year after the Japanese market received a special-edition Mercedes C63 AMG called the Performance Studio Edition, it’s getting another one...in a completely different color.

The model introduced last June was painted in a matte black color with red accents on the wheels to go with a two-tone, red and black interior and a saucy performance upgrade.

As for the new C63 AMG Limited Edition, Japanese customers will be treated to a car with a white body model with red accents on the mirrors. A boot-lid spoiler has also been added, as are new brake calipers and its own two-tone red and black leather interior modifications that, incidentally, is different from the interior treatment received by its predecessor.

Equally important for the white C63 AMG Limited Edition is the power upgrade. Thanks to an engine tune from Merc, the output of the luxury sports coupe was increased from 451 horsepower to 480 horsepower. Not too shabby, if we do say so ourselves.

For all of the similarities between the two, the C63 AMG Limited Edition will also be sold on a limited basis. Only 15 coupe models are available with an extra 20 models for the sedan version.

mercedes cla 45 amg teased in ps4 game driveclub picture

It’s already been well established that the 2014 Mercedes CLA 45 AMG is headed to the New York Auto Show. But even though that’s still a little over a month away, we’re already seeing some sneak peeks at the new compact luxury sedan.

The latest comes by way of Driveclub, a new racing game that’s developed exclusively for the Sony PlayStation 4. Unlike the Gran Turismo franchise, Driveclub is being touted as a game that offers highly connected gameplay that, according to Sony, is meant to be played in real clubs and encourages co-op game play among multiple players.

Well, one of the car’s that’s being prepared to be part of the game is the new CLA 45 AMG and as well it should because the luxury car comes packed with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that nets 360 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. More importantly, just like the game, the CLA 45 AMG is also a sight to behold, looking the part of a luxury sedan that’s well worth serious consideration when it hits dealerships in the future.

Keep it locked it in here when the CLA 45 AMG makes its world debut at the New York Auto Show. And in case you’re wondering, too, the PS4 and Driveclub are expected to hit stores just in time for the holidays.

2014 Mercedes A45 AMG Edition 1

Mercedes told us in the past few month that every new model launched on the market will also get a special "Edition 1" and, of course, the new A45 AMG is no exception.

The new Mercedes A45 AMG Edition 1 is painted in cirrus white combined with AMG sports stripes in matte graphite grey on the hood, roof and sides. The white finish has been combined with contrasting red insertions on the radiator grille, exterior mirrors and rear wing. The car sits on a set of wheels, sized 19 inches and painted matte black and combined with contrasting red-painted brake calipers.

For the interior, the Edition 1 is offered with AMG Performance seats in ARTICO manmade leather, a dashboard in ARTICO manmade leather and the AMG Performance steering wheel wrapped in Nappa leather.

The A45 AMG Edition 1 is also offered with a new Performance Package that removes the speed limiter, so that the A45 AMG Edition 1 can hit a top speed of 167 mph not the 155 mph the standard version is limited to.

Three More A45 AMG-Based Models Under Development

Now that we have officially seen the new A45 AMG sports hatch, it looks like Mercedes has three more A45 AMG-based models in the works, all of them are rumored to be unveiled at major shows in the upcoming months.

The first to arrive will be an AMG version for the new CLA-Class. It will arrive at the New York Auto Show and will be followed by the GLA45 AMG and the CLA Shooting Brake.

All three models will be powered by the same engine used in the A45 AMG: a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that delivers a total of 360 horsepower and a peak torque of 331 pound-feet. Also, performance figures will be pretty much identical: 0 to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. The only model to be a little bit slower will be the GLA45 AMG due to its added weight.

Mercedes Has Tons of Goodies up its Sleeve; E63 AMG Black Series also possible

3.

According to British magazine AutoExpress, the Germans over at Mercedes are preparing to further expand its lineup with the addition of some more four-wheel-drive AMG models with the first one being based on the next-generation AMG version of the C-Class. The announcement was made by AMG’s senior powertrain engineering manager, Dr Jorg Gindele, who also confirmed that there is already a prototype version testing at AMG’s headquarters in Affalterbach, Germany.

He also confirmed that a Black Series variant of the current E63 AMG could also be offered, but only during its last years on the market. However, in order for this to become a reality, AMG will need to backtrack on its decision "to only produce two-door Black Series models."

Later this year, at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show, we will see the first concept version for the company’s new GLA SUV. The GLA lineup will also include a four-wheel-drive GLA 45 AMG version, developed especially for the U.S. market.

And now a bad news: apparently the electric version of the SLS supercar will be the only model of this kind, because it is too heavy and its technology can’t be applied to any other model in the lineup.

2014 Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG

With so many Mercedes-Benz AMG models floating around the market at the moment, it would have been easy to forget that the German giant doesn’t have a direct competitor to the Audi RS3 hatch or the BMW M135i. That’s where the new A45 AMG is said to step in.

Pinned to be the most affordable AMG on sale, the A45 AMG aims to not only compete with the aforementioned BMW and Audi models, but to completely annihilate them with its performance capabilities.

The A45 AMG has actually been in development for the better part of two years, and, after spying it in many times, the first official details on the car are finally here. It is the first high-performance vehicle Mercedes has ever offered in the compact class, and according to officials it will target the age range from 30 to mid-40.

The new Mercedes A45 AMG will be making its world debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and will be put on sale in April.

UPDATE 05/21/2013: Mercedes unveiled a new commercial for the new A45 AMG. Called "Apparition" the new ad is featuring features Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg riding the car. the ad is oddly similar to Toyota’s RAV4 ad, sans the high-performance hatchback, of course. Enjoy!

Video: Chris Harris Puts the BMW M6 Against the Mercedes SL63 AMG

You probably already know that when it comes to whaling on cars, Chris Harris is our favorite. When compared to the guys over Top Gear, as he likes to have a little more fun behind the wheel and his reviews are always more interesting to watch – all due respect to the boys at Top Gear.

In his latest episode of his show, he put two amazing sports coupes — the BMW M6 and the Mercedes SL63 AMG — head to head. The two sports coupes deliver a combined output of about 1,100 horsepower (560 horsepower for the M6 coupe and 537 horsepower in the SL63 AMG) and, according to Harris, they "are the ultimate super-heated GT cars; fast enough to match a 911 Turbo, comfy enough to cruise a continent."

Watch the video to see which of the two sports car he considers being the best. Let us know if you agree with him!

2014 Mercedes C 63 AMG "Edition 507"

Mercedes has just announced the addition of an even more powerful version to its C-Class lineup. Called C63 AMG "Edition 507" – the “507” is a clear indication of the engine’s output - the new model will use much of the same technology as the SLS AMG supercar. The new elements - including forged pistons, connecting rods and a lightweight crankshaft - will transform the new Edition 507 into a more powerful, yet lighter sports model.

The new C63 AMG Edition 507 will also be distinguished by design elements seen on models like the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series. These extra styling elements combined with the anticipated power hike definitely get our attention.

So, if you happen to be one of those crazy people that think the 451-horsepower C63 AMG is just a little too timid for you, the Edition 507 just might be the car for you. Or maybe you would prefer a fighter jet; better yet, a rocket ship… Yeah, that may satisfy your itch for speed!

TopSpeed Rendering: 2014 Mercedes C63 AMG

The upcoming Mercedes C63 AMG sedan has been caught testing many times, but the prototypes were heavily camouflaged and it was pretty difficult to imagine how the real car will look.

Today, based on those spy shots and with design elements inspired by the new E63 AMG, we have created a rendering that will help you get a pretty good idea of the C63 AMG’s final look.

The AMG version will be distinguished by bigger brakes, wider fenders, and a front bumper with bigger air intakes and, of course, the AMG quad exhaust pipes.

The future C63 AMG will be powered by the same engine as the previously announced AMG models. This engine will deliver a total of 550 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 531 pound-feet delivered between 1,750 and 5,250 rpm. The engine will be mated to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT seven-speed sports transmission and we expect to see the same high-performance 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system as seen in the previous AMG models.
