  Mercedes performance division: AMG cars

So we all know and love the G63 AMG by Mercedes , but what if four wheels just aren’t enough for you? Well, the German automaker may have just the vehicle for you in the form of a six-wheel-drive variant of the bad-ass G-Class by AMG. The Swedish military is due to get one and the Australian military already has them in service. Unfortunately, there was no way for a civilian to get ahold of one.

Well, Autobild happened to catch one of these bad boys being delivered and it was not wrapped up in the typical military garb. No siree, this beastly Benz looks to be in full-civilian dress. It could be that this is just how Mercedes delivers the six-wheel monster to the military, but we highly doubt that Mercedes would go through the trouble of painting it and installing all of the safety items that civilian cars require just to have the military strip it down.

This points toward Mercedes actually offering this massive SUV up for sale to the general public, which likely gets you off-road nuts all hyped up. Before you get yourself too worked up, we say there is about a 99.999-percent chance that this model will never hit U.S. shores. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Regardless, this production monster truck comes with the AMG-built 5.5-liter V8 engine with 544 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque. The transmission is unknown, but we assume it will feature a 7G-TRONIC transmission. Though the standard G63 AMG screams to 60 mph in only 5.4 seconds, we would be shocked to see this tank get under the 7-second mark.

Update 3/1/2013: Mercedes has just revealed a load of images and a video of the G63 AMG 6x6 on its Facebook page. you can see the video above and the images in the gallery. The German manufacturer has yet to reveal any of the specifications on this military favorite.

When you’re looking for an aftermarket company with a penchant for understated programs, rest assured, Brabus isn’t one of them.

There’s nothing understated about this German tuner. On the contrary, their reputation as one of the most over-the-top tuners is well-earned. At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show , Brabus is bringing another project that backs up its reputation.

The program is called ’B63S-730’ and it’s for the CLS63 AMG , a car that doesn’t seem to lack in output in its own right. Apparently, Brabus isn’t content with just 557 horsepower and 589 pound-feet of torque, so they slapped on a pair of uprated turbochargers with larger compressor units, an additional water-to-air intercooler while they also remapped the ECU software and added a new stainless-steel sports exhaust with high-flow cats and adjustable butterfly valve.

All in a day’s work too, we imagine.

As a result, the CLS63 AMG’s 5.5-liter bi-turbo V-8 engine is screaming in delight, thanks to an improved output that nets the car 730 horsepower and 763 pound-feet of torque, numbers good enough to get the CLS63 AMG to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.8 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 10.8 seconds and a top speed of 217 mph.

Aesthetically, there are plenty of new components too, highlighted by a clear-coated carbon-fiber front spoiler and fender vents. Brabus also offers a choice of 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels, including the nine-spoke Monoblock F and ten-spoke Monoblock R Platinum Edition forged wheels. Likewise, the CLS63 AMG’s interior also received its share of enhancements. We particularly like the soft Mastik leather with quilted stitching as upholstery on the seats, the panelling and the floor mats. The material itself - Matsik - sounds so exotic, right in line with the reputation of Brabus as a true exotic tuner.

Mercedes AMG has unveiled a cool video presenting Bernd Mayländer, official Formula One Safety Car Driver, talking about his old and new Safety Cars. The video was shot in an old barn, as he explains technical details and tells of his personal experiences, starting from the 1999 CLK 55 AMG and to the current SLS AMG GT. From his list there are two big absences: the SL55 and the SL63.

The latest Safety Car is the 2013 SLS AMG GT F1 Safety Car . It is powered by the same V-8 engine found in the road-going version, which delivers a total of 591 horsepower. The safety car also receives a high-performance ceramic-composite brake system and weight-reducing AMG 10-spoke forged light-alloy wheels.

He also talks about the 2012 racing season, when, for the first time in history, a season finale was ended by a Safety Car.

Less than a year after the Japanese market received a special-edition Mercedes C63 AMG called the Performance Studio Edition , it’s getting another one...in a completely different color.

The model introduced last June was painted in a matte black color with red accents on the wheels to go with a two-tone, red and black interior and a saucy performance upgrade.

As for the new C63 AMG Limited Edition, Japanese customers will be treated to a car with a white body model with red accents on the mirrors. A boot-lid spoiler has also been added, as are new brake calipers and its own two-tone red and black leather interior modifications that, incidentally, is different from the interior treatment received by its predecessor.

Equally important for the white C63 AMG Limited Edition is the power upgrade. Thanks to an engine tune from Merc , the output of the luxury sports coupe was increased from 451 horsepower to 480 horsepower. Not too shabby, if we do say so ourselves.

For all of the similarities between the two, the C63 AMG Limited Edition will also be sold on a limited basis. Only 15 coupe models are available with an extra 20 models for the sedan version.

It’s already been well established that the 2014 Mercedes CLA 45 AMG is headed to the New York Auto Show . But even though that’s still a little over a month away, we’re already seeing some sneak peeks at the new compact luxury sedan.

The latest comes by way of Driveclub, a new racing game that’s developed exclusively for the Sony PlayStation 4 . Unlike the Gran Turismo franchise, Driveclub is being touted as a game that offers highly connected gameplay that, according to Sony, is meant to be played in real clubs and encourages co-op game play among multiple players.

Well, one of the car’s that’s being prepared to be part of the game is the new CLA 45 AMG and as well it should because the luxury car comes packed with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that nets 360 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. More importantly, just like the game, the CLA 45 AMG is also a sight to behold, looking the part of a luxury sedan that’s well worth serious consideration when it hits dealerships in the future.

Keep it locked it in here when the CLA 45 AMG makes its world debut at the New York Auto Show. And in case you’re wondering, too, the PS4 and Driveclub are expected to hit stores just in time for the holidays.

Mercedes told us in the past few month that every new model launched on the market will also get a special "Edition 1" and, of course, the newA45 AMG is no exception.

The new Mercedes A45 AMG Edition 1 is painted in cirrus white combined with AMG sports stripes in matte graphite grey on the hood, roof and sides. The white finish has been combined with contrasting red insertions on the radiator grille, exterior mirrors and rear wing. The car sits on a set of wheels, sized 19 inches and painted matte black and combined with contrasting red-painted brake calipers.

For the interior, the Edition 1 is offered with AMG Performance seats in ARTICO manmade leather, a dashboard in ARTICO manmade leather and the AMG Performance steering wheel wrapped in Nappa leather.

The A45 AMG Edition 1 is also offered with a new Performance Package that removes the speed limiter, so that the A45 AMG Edition 1 can hit a top speed of 167 mph not the 155 mph the standard version is limited to.

Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG

Now that we have officially seen the new A45 AMG sports hatch , it looks like Mercedes has three more A45 AMG-based models in the works, all of them are rumored to be unveiled at major shows in the upcoming months.

The first to arrive will be an AMG version for the new CLA-Class . It will arrive at the New York Auto Show and will be followed by the GLA45 AMG and the CLA Shooting Brake.

All three models will be powered by the same engine used in the A45 AMG: a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that delivers a total of 360 horsepower and a peak torque of 331 pound-feet. Also, performance figures will be pretty much identical: 0 to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. The only model to be a little bit slower will be the GLA45 AMG due to its added weight.

Mercedes E63 AMG

According to British magazine AutoExpress, the Germans over at Mercedes are preparing to further expand its lineup with the addition of some more four-wheel-drive AMG models with the first one being based on the next-generation AMG version of the C-Class. The announcement was made by AMG’s senior powertrain engineering manager, Dr Jorg Gindele, who also confirmed that there is already a prototype version testing at AMG’s headquarters in Affalterbach, Germany.

He also confirmed that a Black Series variant of the current E63 AMG could also be offered, but only during its last years on the market. However, in order for this to become a reality, AMG will need to backtrack on its decision "to only produce two-door Black Series models."

Later this year, at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show, we will see the first concept version for the company’s new GLA SUV. The GLA lineup will also include a four-wheel-drive GLA 45 AMG version, developed especially for the U.S. market.

And now a bad news: apparently the electric version of the SLS supercar will be the only model of this kind, because it is too heavy and its technology can’t be applied to any other model in the lineup.

With so many Mercedes-Benz AMG models floating around the market at the moment, it would have been easy to forget that the German giant doesn’t have a direct competitor to the Audi RS3 hatch or the BMW M135i . That’s where the new A45 AMG is said to step in.

Pinned to be the most affordable AMG on sale, the A45 AMG aims to not only compete with the aforementioned BMW and Audi models, but to completely annihilate them with its performance capabilities.

The A45 AMG has actually been in development for the better part of two years, and, after spying it in many times, the first official details on the car are finally here. It is the first high-performance vehicle Mercedes has ever offered in the compact class, and according to officials it will target the age range from 30 to mid-40.

The new Mercedes A45 AMG will be making its world debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and will be put on sale in April.

UPDATE 05/21/2013: Mercedes unveiled a new commercial for the new A45 AMG. Called "Apparition" the new ad is featuring features Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg riding the car. the ad is oddly similar to Toyota’s RAV4 ad, sans the high-performance hatchback, of course. Enjoy!

Updated 01/29/2014: Mercedes unveiled a new video featuring the new A45 AMG playing in the Sahara desert. Enjoy!

You probably already know that when it comes to whaling on cars, Chris Harris is our favorite. When compared to the guys over Top Gear, as he likes to have a little more fun behind the wheel and his reviews are always more interesting to watch – all due respect to the boys at Top Gear.

In his latest episode of his show, he put two amazing sports coupes — the BMW M6 and the Mercedes SL63 AMG — head to head. The two sports coupes deliver a combined output of about 1,100 horsepower (560 horsepower for the M6 coupe and 537 horsepower in the SL63 AMG) and, according to Harris, they "are the ultimate super-heated GT cars; fast enough to match a 911 Turbo, comfy enough to cruise a continent."

Watch the video to see which of the two sports car he considers being the best. Let us know if you agree with him!
