After seven years of successful history, the Aston Martin DB9 has received a complete package of styling, engineering, and equipment enhancements. Prices in the UK will begin at £122,445 ($182,775) for the Coupe and £131,445 ($196,000) for the Volante. On the exterior the biggest change is a new bumper with a re-shaped lower intake featuring hexagonal mesh to compliment the new bright finish radiator grille. The DB9 also gets a more prominent ‘hockey stick’ curve ahead of the rear wheels, silver brake calipers, 20-spoke diamond turned alloy wheels as standard, together with new design option wheels and a bright finish grille. Under the hood there is a 6.0-liter V12 engine delivering an unchanged 470bhp and 442lb ft of torque and mated to a choice of six-speed ‘Touchtronic’ paddle-shift automatic or six-speed H-pattern manual transmission. The sprint from 0 to 60 mph is made in just 4.6 seconds and top speed goes up to 190 mph. Also the DB9’s passive damping system has been replaced by a new Adaptive Damping System (ADS), which offers enhanced ride comfort together with sharper handling when switched to Sport mode. Updated 09/07/2010: Aston Martin today announced US prices for the 2011 DB9 sports car that will go on sale in the third quarter of this year. The coupe version will be priced at $187,615 for the Coupe, and $201,115 for the Volante. Press release after the jump. Press release In the most significant programme of upgrades since its world debut in 2003, Aston Martin’s DB9 range has received a complete package of styling, engineering and equipment enhancements. BackgroundThe introduction of the DB9 marked the beginning of Aston Martin’s 21st Century renaissance. The first new model to be built at Aston Martin’s headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire, and the first to be built around Aston Martin’s rigid, lightweight, bonded aluminium VH architecture; the DB9 was an immediate and unparalleled success, setting a new tone for Aston Martins of the future. EngineeringSince the DB9’s introduction Aston Martin has demonstrated the versatility of the VH architecture by developing the Vantage, DBS and Rapide model ranges. In the process Aston Martin’s engineers have gained an increasingly detailed understanding of the VH platform, which in turn has led to the constant improvement and evolution of existing established models. DesignImproving upon what many consider to be one of the most beautiful cars in the world is a delicate exercise. According to Aston Martin’s Director of Design, Marek Reichman, subtlety and fine attention to detail is the key: “The beauty of an Aston Martin comes from harmonious proportions, a ground-hugging stance, taut surfacing and a complete and thorough attention to detail. The DB9 epitomises these qualities; it is beautiful but subtle – not attention seeking.” MotorsportMirroring the DB9’s road-going success, Aston Martin Racing’s DBR9 and DBRS9 endurance racers have proved hugely successful on racetracks around the world. With a total of some 20 DBR9 and 30 DBRS9s built and delivered to customer teams around the world, Aston Martins have consistently scored victories in a host of national and international championships. 25 comments: Aston Martin DB9 Inside and out, this is the best styled car of all time my opinion, and this update improves what I had thought couldn’t get any better. Now here’s what I’d like to see: since Toyota gave Aston Martin the IQ to tweak into the Cygnet, I’d love to see a new Lexus SC tied to this car.
He also gave assurances about a fresh beginning and a growth strategy centered on emerging markets and environmental leadership.
For those who’ll appreciate it, just tweaks to a masterpiece. Along with its siblings the most beautiful work of automotive engineering art currently in production – a Gentleman’s’ GT. What’s a few quid when you only live once Yet some will hate it because it’s beautiful and unobtainable for all but a few.
No changes under the hood? that seems odd to me because IMO the only way this car could be improved is by a slight bump in power and a little diet. The car was already gorgeous, no changes needed there.
