2011 Aston Martin V12 Zagato Racer

We haven’t even gotten around to digesting the full breadth of the Aston Martin V12 Zagato and we’re already getting a close look at the race-spec version of the new Aston supercar. Or at least something like it.

In preparation for the car’s racing debut at the Nurburgring later this week, Aston Martin gave the eager public a first-hand look at the race-spec version of the V12 Zagato. It might only be a rendering of the car, but at the very least, it gives us an idea on what to expect when the car officially makes its track debut on May 28, 2011 at the 53rd ADAC ACAS H&R-Cup VLN race.

Judging from the rendering, the race-spec V12 Zagato looks pretty much like the street-version with a couple of notable additions, including the prominent rear wing, the table-top front lip, and the black wheels.

That’s as much as Aston is willing to share for now. But at least the wait won’t be that long before we see the race-spec version in the flesh. Good timing too, considering that the 24 Hours of Nurburgring is scheduled for June 25 and 26, 2011 and Aston Martin will be fielding two V12 Zagatos in the annual endurance race.

UPDATE 07/14/2011: Aston Martin has unveiled a new official video in which they reveal the two V12 Zagato racers at the Nurburgring 24hr race. Check out the two cars as they take part in a grueling test of endurance, engineering, and driver skill. Enjoy!

David King’s comments on the racer

Aston Martin’s Head of Motorsport, David King said: "For V12 Zagato today was all about working on our race setup and developing the car ahead of the 24-hour race. Clearly, the car is still in the very early stages of development having only been unveiled a week ago and it was important for us to take as much learning and data as possible from today and give our drivers chance to familiarise themselves with the car. In terms of our other runners, the V12 Vantage was very unfortunate to be caught up in an incident on the first lap but managed to limp to the pits where the team heroically made the necessary repairs to get it running and back in the race. Today’s major highlight though proved our V8 Vantage with Darren (Turner) and Jurgen (Stumpf) who drove superbly to a second in class finish."

Race Results and Information

05/31/2011: This past weekend the V12 Zagato Racer completed its first run under race conditions in the 53rd ADAC ACAS H&R-Cup VLN race at the Nürburgring. Naturally, the car experienced some minor issues, but the data obtained in the race will be used to tweak the vehicle just before the 24-hour race next month where two V12 Zagatos will be competing.

06/22/2011: Aston Martin will enter this weekend’s Nürburgring 24 hours race with two V12 Zagato Racers. The first is race car number 3, nicknamed ‘Zag’ (red) which will be piloted by Aston Martin CEO, Dr. Ulrich Bez. The second racer is a green V12 Zagato (nicknamed ‘Zig’) - car number 5 for the race - which was prepared by the small team based at Aston Martin’s global headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire. The ’Zig’ will be driven by One-77 Chief Engineer Chris Porritt.

this sporty car is awesome. but i prefer this car for a green theme, it looks more aggressive on it.

It looks so cute and attractive on its design! I’m also glad that they justify the fact that it is a sporty vehicle. Its V12 engine could absolutely give an awesome figure performance on it.

I love the graphic design of this one. It looks so cool and aggressive with that! I just only hope that it could offer lots of safety features, which are very necessary for this kind of vehicle.

The design that this Zagato Racer had is really so cute and looking very awesome on it. smiley Well, it was so nice to hear that they used an impressive engine for this, which is adding more appeal to it.

Aston Martin V12 Zagato Racer totally a rare and unique car, I like the appearance and enhancement made to it. Very unusual. Also nice view of the raced feels like I’m there.

Definitely, you will win all the racer that you enjoined using this Aston Martin racer car. Red color is Okey, but I much prepared to use Green.

I wonder of this car has some connection on the V12 Zagato Concept ? I have seen the engine performance of the car, and I would say that is not that impressive. The 300 hp is kind of less powerful. I hope to read an update for this car.

The styling of the car is really superb! I wonder if they have already debuted this vehicle? I think they haven’t announced the speed performance of the car. I guess there’s still a lot of information that is missing here like the pricing, competitors and engine specification.

What do you expect for a V12 engine? Of course, a powerful performance and for me, this is the most impressive version of Aston Martin. I want to see more about Aston Martin.

As expected from the v12 technology it has an impressive performance! I was thinking if the Top Gear would feature this car in their show. I want to see The Stig drive this car.

The Zagato version of the Aston Martin would be much better compare to the Alfa Romeo. The speed performance of the v12 technology is kind of impressive. I wonder when will be the debut of the vehicle.

The new color makes it more cooler to a race track. We all know that this V12 Zagato Racer by Aston Martin is indeed powerful but I want to see it racing to a professional season.

Well, for me I prefer the red and white theme of this car. BTW, its a great thing that they have used a more modern engine technology for this car to make it perform better.

Wow! I like the operatic sound of the engine of the Aston Martin V12 Zagato Racer. Honestly, I wasn’t impressed with performance of the Zagato but for this production I have to say that I’m really amazed.

Yay, they’re bringing in the Zagato for the Goodwood Festival of Speed, that one is certainly a welcome development I am really looking forward to seeing it perform during that time.

I am actually more for the green one, just because I like environment friendly colors, hehehe! Just kidding, but I really like how the Zagato is turning out, especially with its performance in the Nurburgring track.

for me, I like the fact that they have used a v12 technology on this car! And I bet with that engine its just enough to make this car blast in the race track.

Wow! I have watched the video and I would say that I like the louder noise of this car! The speed is kind of great though I was wondering if there’s any top speed limit for this car?

The exterior design looks astonishing as ever. Plus the fact that it uses a V12 engine which makes the car more powerful in a race. I guess this one will totally bring a lot of excitement in one race.

Well, they would probably be doing that soon enough. With the successful run at the Nurburgring track, they will definitely be trying to market this one more on the road.
