The Geneva Motor Show->ke228 will showcase some of the finest concepts and world debuts you'll ever see this year.

But every so often, an automaker like Aston Martin->ke13 makes a splash with unveilings like this one: a pair of special edition Aston Martin DB9s called the Carbon Black and the Carbon White.

The names actually give away what Aston has prepared for these hellacious beauties. Here's a hint: there's plenty of carbon fiber in both models.

More than that, it marks yet another auto show in which Aston Martin has quietly made an impression on, as if all those previous concepts it's shown in past auto shows weren't enough. The Carbon Black and Carbon White DB9s are different, though, in part because there's reason to believe that we'll see them well after the lights in Geneva are shut and its doors are closed.

Maybe in a dealership soon? Don't bet against it, especially with Aston Martin.

Exterior

Since these are special edition models of the DB9, the basic silhouette of the DB9 remains virtually intact.

That being said, both Carbon models come with some awfully sexy new digs. Two unique paint finishes start things off: Carbon Black ll and Stratus White. From there, more doses of carbon fiber are present in both models, thanks to Aston's carbon exterior pack that pretty much gives new carbon components to the splitter, diffuser, mirror caps and arms.

A carbon-fiber side strake was also added, and black meshes on the front bumper and side strake are part of the package too. Also included are black window surrounds, silver bonnet louvers and a colorful choice of new brake calipers.

Interior

Keeping up with the carbon-fiber theme of both models, Aston Martin went to great lengths to redress the interior with the high-quality material. So now, the fascia trim and the door pulls have been carbon fiber'd. Adding to that, the British automaker also dressed up the cabin in an Obsidian Black full-grain leather, to go with charcoal seatbelts, a black leather sports steering wheel, black pedals, center console rotaries and paddles that can be matched with Black.

Prices

No word yet on how much each of these special edition models, but a hunch suggests that you're looking at anywhere between $180,000 to $200,000.

Competition

2012 Maserati GranTurismo MC

Finally, let’s have a look at the Maserati GranTurismo MC with its 4.7-liter, V-8 engine that cranks out 454 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. This beast sends its power through a six-speed shiftable automatic trans to the rear wheels, and can hit 60 mph in about 4.8 seconds – 0.2 seconds slower than the DB9.

On the outside, the Maserati is kind of “Blah,” as it looks much like any other sports car in the world. The Maserati Maserati receives rave reviews about its interior comfort, but it’s also a lot more cluttered and kind of old looking when compared to the Aston Martin. At $139,900, we think the Maserati is priced well for the market, but not for what you get with it.

2011 Jaguar XKR-S

The Jaguar XKR-S has made quite a name for itself recently, thanks to its company's resurgence in the court of public opinion. That being said, the XKR-S is still a performance feline on wheels, packing some sharp claws with its 550-horsepower, supercharged 5.0-liter, V-8 engine.

This is enough to push this beast to 60 mph in 0.1 seconds less than the DB9. The interior and exterior styling on the XKR-S both match up well with the DB9, and we actually prefer the slightly edgier design that the Jag affords us.

But what really sets the Jag apart is in the realm of the price. With a sticker of just $132,000, the XKR-S is a whole lot cheaper than the DB9, especially one - or two - that has been earmarked as special edition models.

Conclusion

How can you go wrong with an Aston Martin DB9, let alone one that's been dressed to the nines? The simple answer is, you can't. If you have the finances to absorb the monetary hit, then by all means, drive away in any one of these two bad boys and wave at us as you do so.
