The Q by Aston Martin program has been around for only two years, but most of its creations are definitely bound to become valuable classics. The latest vehicle coming from the company’s personalization arm is no exception and, unlike other bespoke Aston Martins, is crossing "the Pond" to be auctioned for charity in Los Gatos, California. The sports car in question is an equestrian-themed DB9 Volante.

Just like the unique 2014 Ferrari FF Dressage Edition the Italians launched in China earlier in 2014, the DB9 Volante by Q pays tribute to the equestrian lifestyle. Not at all surprising considering its British roots and the fact that it will cross the block during the Menlo Charity Horse Show, one of the finest equestrian events in the United States.

Equipped with a unique interior that boasts more luxury than any other production DB9, this equestrian-inspired convertible will generate a $10,000 donation to benefit the Vista Center for the Blind & Visually Impaired. The sports car will be auctioned off by Los Gatos Aston Martin between August 5th and 10th, 2014.

The Lagonda name, previously used by Aston Martin for a hand-built, ultra-expensive sedan built between 1976 - 1990, returned under the spotlight about five years ago when the Brits introduced the Lagonda Concept .

Oddly enough, that concept had nothing to do with the four-door grand tourer, but rather a sporty SUV proclaimed to be a more luxurious alternative to the popular Porsche Cayenne . Rumors about a production version went back and forth with no relevant outcome, although the consensus was the vehicle might arrive in 2016.

But now we have to put the Lagonda SUV behind us, because it appears Aston Martin is actually planning to revive the iconic nameplate for a brand new sedan. Such a vehicle was spotted testing in the United Kingdom covered in camouflage. Our friends over at Autoblog think the Brits will slap a Lagonda badge on its trunk.

Details are scarce right now, but it’s safe to assume the four-door will be based on the Rapide S and ride on a stretched version of its wheelbase. Power is likely to come from the same 6.0-liter V-12 engine that delivers 558 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque. More details should become available later this year, so stay tuned to TopSpeed for all the updates.

Updated 07/25/2014: Aston Martin officially confirmed a bespoke product program for a new super sedan that will revive the Lagonda nameplate. The model will be put into production in 2015 and will be built in a strictly limited series, like the the One-77 hypercar and the V12 Zagato.

We’ve always thought of the Aston Martin Lagonda SUV as being former CEO Dr. Ulrich Bez’s pet project. But now that Bez is out of the management picture over at Aston, it looks like the Lagonda SUV is heading out with him.

Aston Martin Director of Design Marek Reichman recently talked to Pistonheads about the state of the company in the post-Bez era and the discussion brought about an update on the state of the long-awaited SUV.

If you’ve been waiting for the release of the model, maybe now’s the best time to turn away. With Bez out as CEO, the Lagonda SUV is no more.

“That was a different time,” Reichmann told Pistonheads. “It was Ulrich’s time. And now we’re in a very, very different time, with a different plan and with a different projection of what that brand should become.”

Part of that plan is retaining the Lagonda brand. But instead of building it as an SUV, Aston is now setting its sights on turning the Lagonda into its own exclusive marque.

That means more attention to exclusivity and less on the idea of mass production, which was something that Aston initially planned for the Lagonda SUV .

The Aston Martin Vantage is the smallest car in the current Aston range and it was created to be a more entertaining sports car with a cheaper price point when compared to the GT cars like the DB9 . The car was lauded for its looks and handling abilities, but many felt the standard V-8 lacked the proper grunt for a car like this. Aston Martin rose to the challenge and created the V12 Vantage by cramming the 12-cyliiunder engine from the DB9 into the engine bay of the smaller car. Just last year, Aston turned up the wick even farther with a faster, lighter, and more exciting V12 Vantage S model. The big issue with the V12 Vantage S is that is only available in hardtop form, not the seductive roadster. Until now, anyways.

That’s right, Aston has just announced a drop-top version of the V12 Vantage S, and it is as amazing as it sounds.

Functionally the new V12 Vantage S Roadster is identical to its hard-top sibling. That means powerful V-12 engine, reduced weight, increased torque, and a top speed of more than 200 mph.

Creating Vision Gran Turismo concept cars has become quite the habit among automakers, as they rushed to showcase their design skills and advanced powertrains in the latest iteration of the franchise. This year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed brought yet another futuristic supercar to the game, this time from British-based company Aston Martin .

Dubbed DP-100 and developed in-house by a team led by Design Director Marek Reichman, the concept car highlights a brand-new approach for the company, as its engine is mounted behind the seats. The Brits have yet to build sports cars in this configuration, except for the B09/60 Le Mans prototype co-developed with Lola, and the DP-100 comes to put an end to that. At least in the virtual world.

The DP-100 joins a large batch of virtual supercars created for Gran Turismo 6 this year, and will be available for gamers to download starting July 2014. There are no production plans waiting to turn this virtual racer into a vehicle for the real world, but the DP-100 is a concept worth looking into from a design and technological point of view.

Hello everyone! I hope you guys have had a great week so far and are very excited for the TopSpeed Podcast. This week is Episode 016 and I have a few surprises for you guys.

At some point in the show, I am going to let everyone know how they can get some cool Gumball 3000 gear. I came home with of lots of stickers, key chains, T-shirts and some other cool swag, and I am going to be giving most of it away. You have to watch or listen to the show to figure out how to get it though.

We are start the show off with Mark and Justin talking about what they have been driving over the last week. That means the Civic Si and the expensive Range Rover Autobigraphy . I meanwhile wax poetically about the V-10 wail of the Lamborghini Gallardo as it bounces off the rev-limiter. You don’t want to miss that part.

For news we discuss the continued recovery of Michael Schumacher , Nissan’s new GT-R based concept car and the possibility of an RX-8 replacement from Mazda. We also fit some Aston Martin news in as well.

We even take the chance to talk a bit about what will be happening at Goodwood.

After the news, we have a few questions to answer from you guys about company collaborations and special edition custom cars like Ferrari’s many SP models.

We wrap up the show with Own, Drive, Burn for a trio of far out supercar concepts.

It appears things are stirring amid the design studios and development laboratories at Aston Martin these days. Reports have surfaced of Aston’s plans to completely reinvent itself, starting with a series of revamped products. An all-new DB9 is set to be the brand’s first product, destined to hit showrooms for the 2017 model year.

The news comes on the heels of the announcement of Aston Martin’s deal with Mercedes -AMG to source powertrains for upcoming models. What’s more, Mercedes may supply Aston with electronic equipment, such as in-dash infotainment systems, electronic safety aids, and of course, the engine management software.

Though AMG will supply the go-fast bits, Aston is relying on a revised version of the architectural platform the automaker developed while under ownership of Ford Motor Company from 1994 through 2007. That’s not a bad thing, however, as the platform was developed with help from Lotus Engineering, so it will likely be a competent performer.

The platform is said to be largely constructed of Aluminum and will have the ability to take on multiple widths and wheelbases, alleviating the one-look model lineup that Aston currently suffers from.

The Bonhams auction is one of those rare times of the year when some of the most exotic classic vehicles are awaken from hibernation for whole world to see. This year, a special Aston Martin DBS was showcased at Bonhams and judging by its history as the DBS used in the British television series "The Persuaders!", you could understand why the car fetched for more than just a pretty penny.

The famed 1970 Aston Martin DBS that starred in the hit British television series was a popular model at Bonhams and the final price really validated its status as one of the most significant TV cars of its time. After all, nobody pays £533,500 for just any other Aston Martin from the 1970’s.

That figure also established a new world record for an Aston Martin DBS sold at auction. That’s a fitting designation for one of the few Aston Martins in history that people grew up watching on TV, beginning a love affair with the marquee that in its own way, has lasted the test of time and generations.

It has been a decade since the Aston Martin DB9 arrived to replace the DB7 . Many tuners including the popular names have spent time with the British icon to squeeze more out of it and make it even more sophisticated and lucrative. The latest tuner to get its hands on the DB9 is Carlex and it made the car look astonishing on the inside — as if the base DB9’s cabin wasn’t astonishing enough. It has dubbed this project the Aston Martin DB9 Vesper.

The ethereal looking Aston Martin DB9 has been designed by Ian Callum and Henrik Fisker with the distinctiveness coming from the trademark front grille and super-sleek aluminum body. The long hood with distinctive creases makes the car lustrous and elegant. The DB9 is powered by AM11 engine, which is a 5.9-liter V-12 with 510 horsepower and 457 foot-pounds of torque. With this engine in tow and mated to a six-speed automatic, the DB9 crests the 60-mph mark in just 4.6 seconds.

There was a well-established manufacturer half a decade before Aston Martin known as Lagonda. With some early success, Lagonda became quite famous in its time till the consequences of World War II caused major struggle to the manufacturer. In 1947, Aston Martin took possession of Lagonda and reserved the name of limited number, ultra-luxurious sedans .

Aston Martin resurrected the hibernating Lagonda name in 1974 at London Motor Show by announcing the “Aston Martin Lagonda V8 ”, of which only seven units were made. The new model revived name received a humdrum response from the market and Aston Martin went back to drawing board with William Tomas. In 1976, Aston Martin lifted the curtains from a striking new concept model which surged the popularity of the Lagonda brand in quick succession. Its redesigned Lagonda received a wild response and orders piled in. With demands breaking through the roof and production rate limited to only one per week, Aston Martin rolled out the first production model in 1979 and three years later, the car finally got cleared for sale in USA.

To make the exceptional design possible Aston Martin’s engineer pushed the V-8 engine as far back as possible and even then more room was required to make the mechanism work. The engineers hatched a new intake system to compensate the space, which restricted the engine output. Tackling the issue, Aston Martin installed larger intake valves after mending the engine’s cylinder walls to meet the expected power delivery.

Aston Martin launched the Lagonda Series 3 in 1986 at New York Motor Show and the Series 4 was unveiled in all-new form in 1986.
