It seems that this year’s Barrett-Jackson Scottdale auction will see lots of one-of models offered for auction. Earlier we were reporting about a special Ford Racing Champions Shelby GT500, and now is time for the Mustang’s competitor to enter the front line. Steve Saleen and Bob Bondurant will be offering a one-of 620 Camaro for auction with all the proceeds going to Make-a-Wish Foundation of Arizona and Cox Charities.
This special Camaro is powered by a 6.2 liter V8 engine equipped with a SMS supercharged that will increase the total output to an impressive 620 HP and 525ft/lb of torque (hence the name). The engine will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission and a Borla exhaust system.
Painted in a very cool yellow, this special Camaro 620 will also get a "Red Butterfly" hood, Eibach S suspension and a special set of 20" custom wheels. And of course that the buyer will also get the autographs of both Saleen and Bondurant on the dash.
The car will be auctioned at approximately 8pm Thursday January 19, 2012.
Back in 2001, Lamborghini replaced their very successful Diablo supercar with the new Murcielago. But before the Diablo was put to pasture, Lamborghini offered a limited edition Diablo 6.0 VT that only came in 40 units. This month, you may have the chance to own the very last of this special edition as it will be available for auction at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale.
This particular Diablo, serial number 40 or 40, comes with only 12 miles on the odometer and it has lived its life in the large climate controlled collection of a West Coast auto enthusiast. This special edition Diablo was offered in only two exterior colors: Oro Elios (Sunrise Gold) and Marrone Eklipsis (Sunset Maroon) and all of them were offered with titanium threads in the carbon fiber weave for the body and trim, rear spoiler, Alpine premium DVD navigation audio system, exclusive two tone all leather interior and titanium interior trim.
Under the hood, Lamborghini placed a V12 engine with a total output of 550 HP, allowing the supercar to run from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds with a top speed of 200 mph.
Last year at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction Ford has managed to sell a Grabber Blue Boss 302 Laguna Seca for an impressive $450,000. At this year’s event the company will once again come with a special 2013 Shelby GT500 and they hope to raise the same amount of money. All the proceeds will go to the JDRF.
Its true Ford did not revealed any details just yet on this "special" Shelby GT500, but as no unit has been sold just yet we expect this to be the first production 2013 Shelby GT500. We will have the official confirmation in the upcoming weeks.
However, under the hood you will see the same 5.8 liters V8 engine that delivers an impressive 600 HP.
The auction will be held at approximately 8:30 PM January 21, 2012, so if you are interested you have to mark this date. But until then we expect the GT500 Convertible at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show.
Fans of the Ford Mustang itching to get their hands on the latest special edition version of the muscle car will be delighted to know that Galpin Auto Sports, together with SPX Corporation, is building one exclusively for the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona in January.
The proceeds of the sale will benefit the St. Jude Children’s Hospital so at the very least, your bids will go to a very worthy cause. But what should really get you going about this special edition Mustang is the number of improvements Galpin did to turn it into an even more powerful piece of muscle.
Inspired by the legendary Mustang Boss 429, this particular Mustang will carry a 5.0-liter V8 engine that has been taken to a whole new level thanks to upgrades that include a Ford Racing supercharger, Comp Cams camshafts, and a Bassani exhaust system. All that has taken the output of the Galpin Mustang to a staggering 700 horsepower.
On top of the massive engine upgrade, the Galpin Mustang will also carry aesthetic improvements, including a Candy Apple Red Pearl PPG paint scheme, a Roush billet aluminum grille, the original 1969 Boss 429 hood, a Boss 302 Laguna Seca rear spoiler, and a set of 21" and 22" Forgiato wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tires.
The car is interesting enough on its own merit to have active bidders when it goes under the hammer at Barrett-Jackson, but if you add that all your bids will end up being for a good cause, then you should have no problem shooting for the moon when bidding.
UPDATE 10/20/11: We’ve just learned that the 700-horsepower Mustang by Galpin Auto Sports will be making its world debut at the 2011 SEMA Auto Show ahead of its auction date at Barrett-Jackson next January. Be sure to check out this completely modded Mustang before a lucky bidder drives home with it next year.
UPDATE 12/29/11: After being announced as a prototype back in August, the Mustang SPX is finally ready and waiting for its new customer. For those interested, this car will be available at the Barrett-Jackson auction in January 2011. All proceeds will go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital: "Cancer affects so many families across America and we’re very excited at the opportunity to utilize our talents to help raise money to fight this terrible disease," said GAS President Beau Boeckmann. "We’re honored SPX chose us as the shop to build this vehicle. Once completed, this car has tremendous potential to raise a lot of money for an organization that benefits a great cause."
Chevrolet is the official vehicle of the 112th Army-Navy Game presented by USAA and they are taking that job very seriously with their new Camaro Military Tribute Edition.
The Military Tribute Camaro combines all the five armed forces (Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard) with some of the military’s highest individual awards and current campaign medals. It was designed by award-winning artist Mickey Harris.
"We at Chevrolet want to do all we can to show our gratitude to the men and women serving in our armed forces, those who come home with life-changing injuries, like Cpl. Gaertner, and our fallen heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country," said Chris Perry, vice president, Chevrolet Global Marketing and Strategy.
The Chevrolet Camaro Military Tribute will officially be announced during "America’s Game," which begins at 2:30 p.m. EST on Saturday, December 10, 2011. The Military Tribute Camaro will then be auctioned by Barrett-Jackson at its January 17-22, 2012 event in Scottsdale, Ariz. All the proceeds will go to Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans.
UPDATE 01/23/11: The special edition Military Tribute Camaro has found an owner willing to pay a small fortune for it. The winning bidder - one from the Internet, no less - put in $175,000 for the chance to own the unique one-off Camaro at the recently-concluded Barrett Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. Proceeds from the sale of this special Camaro will go to the Achilles Freedom Team, which helps wounded veterans of all services overcome their injuries through athletics.
Ford has has just recently brought the Boss name back to the Mustang line-up, but the original Boss Mustang was offered as limited edition between 1969 and 1970. A model like this in our day in age is certainly hard to find, especially since Ford only produced 858 units of this beauty, but an original 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 has turned up on eBay with a current bid of $185,000.
The 1969 Mustang Boss 429 has a large 429 cubic inch NASCAR motor producing 375 HP at 5200 RPM and 450 lb-ft of torque at 3400 rpm. Mated to a four-speed manual transmission, this engine sprints the Boss from 0 to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds on its way up to a top speed of 118 mph.
The specific 1969 Mustang Boss 429 being offered is painted in Wimbledon White and was purchased new in New York, then sent to Tasca Ford in Providence, Rhode Island. The car only has 2,219 original miles on the odometer and is completely original.
So far the reserve has not been met - even with the current $185,000 bid - but the age and relatively small number of units for this 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 makes this an opportunity of a lifetime for an avid Mustang aficionado.
€3.5 million, or $4.83 million, will buy you a lot of things, including 12 Lamborghini Aventador supercars. Why anyone would need that many Aventadors is beyond us, but what is even more mind-boggling is why someone would spend that much money on a 1:8 scale model of the new Lamborghini supercar. Yes, one is for sale and it’s priced at $4.83 million.
This unbelievable scale model was presented by former Mercedes-Benz engineer and German model maker, Robert Gulpen, at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Made from some of the most precious materials used for construction, the scale model Aventador comes wrapped in 1/1000mm thin threads of solid gold with carbon fiber forming the entire body of the car, and solid gold and platinum rims and interior to finish it off. On top of that, the material used on the windows is bulletproof glass and the Lamborghini logo adorned in the back is made from gold, platinum, and other precious gems.
All told, the whole project required €2 million ($2.8 million), which is insane just to read. The other half of that cost most likely comes as a result of 500 hours of build time.
The car is set to be auctioned off soon, possibly at Sotherby’s or Chrystie’s in New York or Dubai. Expect the model to fetch a starting bid of €3.5 million - $4.83 million - with part of the final purchase price going to charity.
Whether somebody’s insane enough to actually pay 12 times the price of an actual Lamborghini Aventador is besides the point. Paying $5 million for just about anything, let alone a scale model, is crazy enough.
UPDATE 12/02/2011: Robert Guelpen has decided to further increase the value of his Aventador by gilding it with gold. The car will be sold in December 2011 and will more than likely enter the Guinness Book of Records. The car features approximately 700 diamonds studded on each of the two seats inside, the chassis is made in solid gold, the wheel rims are platinum, and other elements are made of carbon fiber.
Hit the jump for a video showing off the Aventador scale model.

Steve McQueen was, and is still considered to be, one of the icons of the auto industry. Sure, he didn’t design cars, nor did he start an auto company, but his indelible mark on all of us was that he was one of those Hollywood royalties that also knew how to handle his business behind the wheel of a race car.
His legendary movie, Le Mans, will always be a conversation-piece for us so it figures that some of the items that were used in that movie would fetch a pretty dollar if they went up for auction. That’s where this two-piece Gulf Racing suit comes into the picture. Not only was this piece of fabric used in the movie, but it was actually worn by McQueen himself. After being donated by the Observer to a lucky fan back in 1972 - a 12-year old won it during a competition - the suit now finds itself as one of the prize catches at the Profiles in History’s "Icons of Hollywood" auction.
Remarkably, the suit remains in tip-top condition and comes with all the trinkets and sponsor patches that were used in the movie, including the American flag, the Gulf logo, Heuer Chronograph and Firestone sponsor patches, and even Michael Delany’s name stitched on the right hand side.
The auction will take place on December 15-17, 2011 and experts have priced the suit at around $200,000 to $300,000, a hefty price tag for a classic racing suit that has a pretty interesting story behind it.
We wonder if the suit still has McQueen’s sweat stains on it...
Lotus has always had the pulse for doing charitable things as they have built numerous special edition models to help raise funds for charities. A few months ago, they built a special Evora called the Freddie Mercury Edition - Mercury was the lead vocalist of Queen - to benefit the Mercury Phoenix Trust Foundation.
Recently, the British automaker went back to that same route by unveiling another special edition Evora S, this time personalized by no less than The Who front man, Roger Daltrey.
With the help of Lotus, Daltrey was given the reins in personalizing this car. In addition to signing the car himself, Daltrey also added in red striping details, as well as a number of "The Who" badges and a Union Jack logo on the tailgate. For their part, Lotus gave the special edition Evora Tech and Premium packages that include a Metallic Black paint finish, a reversing camera, and best of all, a 3.5-liter supercharged V6 engine that produces 345 horsepower.
The Evora Roger Daltrey Edition is set to be auctioned off on December 1, 2011 with proceeds going to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
"Without teenagers and their energy and passion for music, we wouldn’t have Rock ’n Roll as we know it," Daltrey said. "There is no doubt in my mind that we’re really making a difference."
Interested bidders will need to bring their check books with them because the car is expected to go under the hammer for around £70,000, which is around $93,400 based on current exchange rates.
The new Bentley Continental GTC just made its North American debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show and will be sold in here at a starting price of $212,800. But while people were amazed by its beauty in LA, in UK a Bentley Continental GTC has been auctioned for an impressive £240,000, or about $325,000 at the current exchange rates. All the proceeds went to this year’s Children in Need fundraising activities.
"Nearly 400 people saw the auction unfold and, as the price kept on rising, the whole place fell silent. To reach £240.000, even for the very latest Bentley which is still making its debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show, just takes your breath away."
"Above all this has been an incredibly good result for Children in Need. The fact that the new owners are Bentley enthusiasts and love these cars is a bonus for us. We’re looking forward to welcoming them and their unique car to the dealership for many years to come." said Jon Crossley Managing Director of Bentley Manchester.
