Audi A8

Audi A8

The Audi A8 is a four door luxury limousine from the German automaker that competes with the BMW 7 Series sedan. The A8 entered production in 1994 and the third generation was just unveiled as a 2011 model. Powered by everything from a 2.8 Liter V6 in the base model all the way up to the top of the line 6.0 Liter W12. The first generation S8 was featured in the 1998 film Ronin, powered by a 4.2 Liter V8 making 335 HP. Meanwhile the second generation S8 had a 5.2 Liter FSI V10 under the hood that produced 444 HP and 398 lb-ft of torque and could rocket from 0 to 60 MPH in 5.1 seconds, more then enough to trounce its 12 cylinder luxury limousine rivals despite being electronically limited to a 155 MPH top speed.

During Audi’s annual shareholders meeting in Germany, Chairman of the Board, Rupert Stadler, announced that the next generations of Audi A8 and A5 Sportback models will make their world debuts sometime this calendar year.

When talking about the Audi A5 Sportback , Stadler said it will be “a revolutionary vehicle concept offering the ideal blend of functionality and aesthetics.” He also commented that the next generation Audi A8 will be “a sensation,” and that it “will be the sportiest luxury sedan in its class.”

The vehicle’s official motor show debut will come in late November. Next to these 2 models, the German automaker will also add: the compact A1 in 2010, the Q3 CUV in 2011 and a hybrid version for the popular Q5 SUV.

Before the next generation A8 will make its official debut , Audi is making a final attempt to improve the current A8 with new style packages.

Before Audi turns a big sedan into a coupe with the A7 , its going to have one last crack at making a large sedan into a large sedan with an updated A8. Just like previous renderings and rumors, the new A8 should get a sleeker and more aggressive design inspired by the A7/Sportback concept . Just like smaller models, Audi’s next flagship will utilize the MLP platform, which will allow for the engine to be mounted further back and more weight directed toward the center of the car.

As far as the engine lineup goes, the middle of the road should stay the same with at variety of V6 and V8 engines in both gas and diesel forms offered over the international line. What is unclear just now is that if Audi continues to go for smaller engines with turbocharging , a four cylinder engine may become the base powerplant. Rumors suggest 230 hp version of the 2.0-liter TFSI engine from the Volkswagen Group’s parts bin may become the lowest rung on the A8 ladder. For the same reason a four-banger may make an appearance in the large sedan, it may also jeopardize the top of the line W12 engine or possibly the Lamborghini-inspired 5.2-liter V10 in the next R8.

Any engine shake ups should not have a huge effect on the U.S. market, where we currently have only V8 engines or higher, and will likely never see a diesel version of the big sedan. The official debut of the next A8 will be made in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and the sales will begin in 2010.

For a world that is supposed to be shifting to cars that are smaller, weaker and cheaper, we’re happy to see plenty of new big sports sedans. Mercedes is refreshing the S-Class , the next Jaguar XJ is expected soon, and now we are getting more information of Audi’s next flagship A8. According to Automobilwoche, Audi has confirmed the next generation A8 for 2010. An Audi spokesman told the German magazine: "Our new flagship will come next year."

We don’t have all the technical details on the vehicle yet, but since Audi’s motto is “Vorsprung durch Technik” (Advancement through Technology), we expect something interesting for Audi’s flagship sedan. We at least know that one piece of technology that will stay on the A8 should be the light aluminum space frame chassis.

Powering the large sedan worldwide will likely be a choice of gas and diesel engines. The U.S. will likely not see the oil burners, so the top of the line will probably continue to be the 450 hp 6.0-liter W12 engine. When the S8 shows up later, it should carry the Lamborghini Lamborghini -inspired 5.2-liter V10 engine that will likely make more than its current 450 hp but no more than the 525 hp in the R8 V10 that uses the same engine.

There has been no confirmation on when the refreshed A8 will be revealed, but if it’s supposed to be on the streets in 2010, we may get the first peek as soon as the Frankfurt show in September.

Hofele A8

The Audi A8 is not a traditional tuner car; however the French company Hofele feels otherwise. Just released at the Geneva Motor Show is their body kit for the luxury limousine. The Audi has been tastefully modified from every angle, from the vents in the fenders to the new taillights and the wider fenders and 21 inch wheels help give the vehicle a more powerful stance.

Now that Audi has a new generation of the A8 on the way, it should be cheaper to pick up an older one. That also leaves cash available to buy a tuning kit for the old version. This may be the reason why RDX Racedesign released its new body kit for the Audi A8 called the D2.

The new kit includes a new front grille, front bumper fitted with LED daytime running lights, new "Turbo-Style” side sills and a new rear bumper with integrated exhaust cutters. In order to complete the body kit a new set of 20 inch alloy wheels were added. Price of the kit: $2856.

From the more questions than answers file comes the possible latest spy shots of the new Audi A8 . Staying close to the rendering from last week , these new shots were picked up by Autoblog from a website in the Middle East.

If these are real, then it looks like Audi is cooking up something pretty special for the 2010 A8. The big Audi looks like its returning to the sleeker profile of the pre-2004 generation. The interior has a horizontal layout that looks like its designed for sports cars. Very nice.

So, are these grainy images real? If so, how did a small Arabic-language site scoop the rest of us? Does this less-rounded shape signal more of the future of Audi design?

It’s time for a nap.

Audi will unveil the new A8 in the fall of 2009. At the llaunched date it will be offered with a 4.2 FSI delivering 372 hp and a 4.2 TDI with 340 hp. In 2010 the company will also add two six-cylinder (gasoline / diesel) with three liters and later a V10. The W12 could be dropped in favor of a hybrid version.

The Audi A8 will enter its fourth generation, but the company will stay focus on evolution rather than revolution. It will keep unchanged the famous "Vorsprung durch Technik" meaning aluminum space frame chassis - it saves about 150 kilos and compensated for the extra weight of four-wheel drive and sport differential.

According to AutoBild, the A8’s design will be agressive, will feature too little progress in architecture and in detail, and like the new 7-Series will take no risks.

On the other hand, the long-wheelbase version of the new A6 will have more presence and charisma than the current generation: the single-frame grill is even bigger and more powerful, the controversial style LED provide additional lighting effects to the bow and stern, the wider track emphasizes the sporty appearance.

Maybe not many tuners choose to modify vehicles like the Audi A8 ...well not everyone but Andre Rothganger a specialist in car tuning transformed the flagship of the German manufacturer in to a glamorous car. At the exterior the car features 24” rims with crystals on them.

The most noticeable modifications were made to the interior: the tuner used unique tapestry while the abundance of multimedia elements lets you speechless. The car features lots of lcd’s and great audio-video console capable of almost everything the customer desires.

Regarding the engine you would say that this baby has to develop at least 500 hp...For sure this will be a dissapointment for you: the engine is capable of developing 330 hp while the top speed is of 275 km/h. Acccording to Andre Rothganger the car is made to be driven in style and not at high speeds. Due to this fact the car received most of the customization at the interior.
