Audi S8

The Audi S8 came about in 1996 and shorty after was featured in the 1998 film Ronin, powered by a 4.2 Liter V8 making 335 HP and 317 lb-ft of torque, the four door sport tuned luxury limousine was a symbol of performance and sophistication. Meanwhile the second generation S8 was introduced in 2006 with a 5.2 Liter FSI V10 under the hood that produced 444 HP and 398 lb-ft of torque and could rocket from 0 to 60 MPH in 5.1 seconds, more then enough to trounce its 12 cylinder luxury limousine rivals despite being electronically limited to a 155 MPH top speed.

Now that Audi has officially unveiled the A8 luxury sedan , the next logical step is the S8 . And today we bring a new rendering of that very car. A rendering that just may be the closest to the final product.

The 2012 Audi S8 will feature a new horizontal strut style grille and lower needle intake accents, just like the ones from the Audi TTS . It will also include silver mirror caps, an S-car staple, and, of course, S-style wheels.

Under the hood there will be a supercharged V8 engine bringing more low-end torque and better fuel economy than the V10 fitted in the current model. This V8 engine will produce a total output of 450 HP and will be mated to a 7-speed double-clutch S Tronic.

Along with the new A8 luxury sedan Audi is also set to bring a more powerful version for those of you who want to combine luxury with sport. This version was recently caught testing at the Nurburgring test track for the first time.

The 2012 Audi S8 will be distinguished by the standard S-line upgrades like LED lights, lower hanging side skirts, a chrome grille, and side mirrors as well as a set of sporty 21 inch wheels. Audi design director Stefan Sielaff says the S8 will influence future performance Audi models in terms of design which means future models will see more carbon fiber and aluminum.
