2010 Audi Q5 Extend by STaSIS Engineering

Audi and Stasis Engineering’s attendance at SEMA was memorable for a number of reasons. First, it was the first time Audi has ever participated in the annual aftermarket event. Second, the event gave both companies the unique opportunity to share the stage together with a number of the tuning firm’s new Signature Series collection.

One of the vehicles that was included in this collection is the Audi Q5 , an SUV that has been lauded by a number of pundits for being a vehicle that combines a dynamic and sporty exterior with a clean and classy interior, a versatile all-around SUV that fits in nicely to a variety of markets, be it for the sporty and outgoing type or for the weekend family types.

The Q5’s standing in the auto industry made it a perfect vehicle for Stasis Engineering to work their magic on. The challenge then was putting together a tuning package for an SUV that already had a favorable rating among consumers and turn it into something that’s going to attract more positive attention than it already has.

You can tell how, despite the massive performance overhaul done to the cars they modify, the folks at Stasis don’t have a lot in the way of a creative imagination when it comes to choosing the paint color of their new Audi Signature Series. The Stasis Q5 takes the same exterior color of the S5 – the black on red two-tone color scheme with black taking the predominant color and red being used as racing stripe that runs from the hood to the rear. And like the S4 and S5 Cabriolet, Stasis also remembered to stamp the hood with the same slithering ‘S’ logo that’s also present in all of their new models.

Likewise, the Q5’s interior largely remains the same, no surprise considering they did the same with the S4 and S5 Cabriolet.

PERFORMANCE

Audi Q5 Extend by STaSIS Engineering

For the Q5, Stasis is releasing a number of special variants, including a Touring Edition, a Challenge Edition, and a Challenge Extreme Edition. For the Touring Edition, Stasis used an Engine Tuning Software to bump up the Q5’s 2.0-liter turbocharged DOHC engine from its factory performance output of 211 horsepower and 258 lb/ft of torque with a 0-60mph time of 7.1 seconds to 261 horsepower and 305 lb/ft of torque, all while shaving off nine-tenths of a second – 6.2 seconds off of its 0-60 mph time. In addition to the spike in engine performance, the Touring Edition of the Stasis Q5’s suspension was lowered by 1.5” with the SUV likewise being given an increased spring rate, an anti-roll bar kit, matched bushings and bumpstops, and a set of 20” x 10” lightweight cast aluminum wheels.

The other Stasis Q5 special variant is the Challenge Edition. Similar to the Touring Edition, the Challenge Edition was given a spike in engine performance from the same factory figures to around 261 horsepower and 305 lb/ft of torque with a 0-60 mph time of 6.1 seconds. The Challenge Edition was outfitted with Ohlins SL dampers, as well as an increased spring rate and high-performance anti-roll bar kit. Stasis also put in 6-piston Alicon monobloc calipers that effectively reduce stopping distances while simultaneously shaving 52 pounds from the car. There’s also the addition of a set of 20” x 9.5” ultra-lightweight forged aluminum wheels to complete the Challenge Edition.

On top of the Challenge Edition is a more powerful version, aptly called the Challenge Extreme Edition. For this variant, Stasis upgraded the factory engine with a Turbo package that produces a dramatic spike in horsepower while maintaining the SUV’s response and torque. From the factory numbers of 211 horsepower and 258lb/ft of torque, the Stasis Q5 Challenge Extreme Edition produces 310 horsepower – 99 more than standard – and 355 lb/ft of torque with a 0-60 mph time of 5.5 seconds.

COMPETITION

The BMW X5 , the Mercedes GL-Class , and the Porsche Cayenne , are all adversaries of the Audi Q5. While each model boasts of their own unique tuning programs, Stasis Engineering’s take on the Q5 – given their expertise on anything that comes out of Ingolstadt – should make it a formidable tuned-up SUV whenever it hits the market.

Wow! This is really so aggressive, but I just noticed that its hood was kind of confusing. Anyway, I also distinguished that its competitor is more powerful than with this one.

3.0TDI would get my attention, as in, I’d buy one. 3.0TDI hybrid for around $45,000 to start
