Competitors and press reviews

"The new TT is certainly a lot more stable than the old one. It even feels better than a Porsche Cayman at high speed, especially in side winds. All TTs have strut-front and multilink-rear suspensions, but there is now an optional adjustable suspension system with magnetic shock fluid. There are two settings, sport and comfort. The sport setting certainly firms up the shocks and limits roll, but the comfort setting feels more natural in this car." (CarAndDriver)

"Like the TT Coupe, the Roadster matches MacPherson struts up front with a new multilink rear suspension setup. While most of the TT’s key components are culled from VW’s latest Gen V Golf/Rabbit, Audi rendered them in lightweight aluminum instead of steel and added its Magnetic Ride Adaptive Damping system to the option list. Our initial encounter on twisting but traffic rich two-lane roads just above the Mediterranean provided only a tantalizing hint of the TT Roadster s real potential." (MotorTrend)

"Credit the massive improvement to the new car’s lower center of gravity, multilink rear suspension, longer wheelbase and wider track, larger wheels and tires (17s and 18s, with 19s to come), much bigger brakes (16-inch rotors on 2.0s and 17-inch rotors on quattros) and new electromechanical steering rack with speed-sensitive assistance. The basic suspension, with its twin-tube gas shocks, is exceptional, but those wanting more control, for both front-drive and quattro models, can opt for Audi’s new magnetic ride shocks, similar to the system used by Cadillac." (InsideLine)

Competitors

Nissan 370Z

The 370Z is powered by a VQ37VHR 3.7 Liter V6 with VVEL rated at 332 HP and 270 lb-ft of torque, mated to either a 6 speed manual or a 7 speed automatic with auto blipping Downshift Rev Matching and Adaptive Shift Contro. The combination is good for an estimated 18 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway. The 2010 model is priced at $29,990.

Porsche Cayman

The Cayman is powered by a 2.9-liter flat-six boxer engine that delivers 265 hp (an increase of 20 hp); the Cayman S gets a 3.4-liter power unit that delivers 320 hp (25 hp more). The Cayman S with PDK dual-clutch automatic and Launch Control can do 0 to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds. Prices for the 2010 model start at $51400.

Mazda RX-8

The RX8 is powered by a 13B twin rotor Renesis engine making 232 HP at a screaming 8,200 RPM and 155 lb-ft of torque. This allows the RX-8 to accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in just 6.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 145 MPH. Available in three trim levels: Sport, Grand Touring and R3, the new RX-8 offers something for everyone from the entry level rear wheel drive shopper to the hard core enthusiast with prices ranging from $26,495 to $32,660.

Conclusion

Of course the Audi TT will never be the sports car the Porsche Cayman is, but you have to consider is cheaper than it. The TT us fast, handles quite well and its easy and safe to drive at the limit. Compared to the previous generation TT, the new TT is vastly improved and has a more aggressive look. But maybe not as aggressive you will want an sport car to be.

For 2010, it comes with a few improvements, including quattro all-wheel drive system as standard, and improved packages for tjose who want more luxury.

I have nothing to say with this car. The article speaks of a lot about it but for me, there is nothing out of the ordinary. Maybe I just don’t really like Audi Cars, but they’re good.

Well I have my own Audi TT and I know how reliable this car especially on the comfort section. Although the price range of this car maybe not good on the budget, I must say on the performance, it will kick behinds. Also it’s a four ring car so expect convenience driving this car.

Love it. But I’d say lose the spoiler. Does this mean that this will be the only RS car according to Audi’s ’one RS at a time’ rule? I thought there was a RS5 on the way..
