Audi ->ke14 is celebrating the half-a-million mark in the production of the TT ->ke1081 with the unveiling of a special edition TTS. Called the TTS Competition, Audi will limit the new special edition to only 500 units and it will put the model into production in October. In Europe, the new TTS Competition will add only €1,900 ($2,500) over the base TTS, which is priced from €46,700 ($62,000).

The first-generation Audi TT was unveiled in 1998 in the coupe version and one year later the roadster version debuted. The first TT remained in production until 2006 and one year later, Audi released the second generation. The first TTS version was unveiled at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show as the first S model in the TT range, then the TT-RS->ke3038 arrived a year later at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show.

Since its initial launch in 1998, Audi has sold a total of 500,000 TT models, which is proof that the model is a force to be reckoned with in the compact sports car->ke506 market.

Exterior

The new TTS Competition is available exclusively in Imola yellow or Nimbus gray exterior paints, both of which are exclusive to this version. Audi further enhanced the exterior with a fixed rear wing with bars in a matte-aluminum-look and 19-inch wheels in a five-arm “Rotor” design.

For the roadster version, buyers can order the top in either black or gray.

Interior

For the interior, the new TTS Competition adds an Impulse leather package, which features a steel-gray finish with Imola yellow accents. There is also a special aluminum badge on the door trim that is embossed with a “1 of 500” logo. The driver enjoys a leather-wrapped, multifunction steering wheel with a more strongly contoured rim. Additionally, Audi includes rear parking sensors.

Drivetrain

Under the hood, the TTS Competition gets a 2.0-liter engine that delivers a total of 272 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Buyers can choose from either a six-speed S tronic transmission that launches the coupe to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds and the roadster in 5.5 seconds, or a manual transmission that raises the sprint time to 5.5 and 5.7 seconds, respectively. All models come with quattro permanent all-while drive and top out at 155 mph.

The TTS Competition with the S tronic transmission delivers an average fuel economy of about 30 mpg, and the manual transmission drops it to an average of about 29 mpg.

Prices

On the European market, the new TTS Competition adds €1,900 ($2,500) to the base TTS, which it priced from €46,700 ($62,000). There will be only 500 units offered. Deliveries start in October.

Competition

Porsche Cayman

People always looked at the Audi TTS as a cheaper alternative for the Porsche Cayman, but there are many buyer out there who find the Cayman better than the TTS.

The Cayman is powered by a 2.7-liter flat-six engine that develops 275 horsepower and sprints it to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds with the PDK and Sport Chrono. The Cayman can hit a top speed of 165 mph.

Nissan 370Z

The 370Z is powered by a 3.7-liter VQ37VHR engine that delivers a total of 332 horsepower and sprints the sports car from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. Top speed is limited to 155 mph.

Conclusion

We know the TTS Competition is just another way to celebrate a milestone and sell more cars, but it is always nice to see such a cool special edition car. We're just hoping that Audi will decide to offer some of those 500 units in the U.S. too, but we're not holding our breath.
