2014 Audi A5 Convertible

Posted on by

Audi added the A5 Coupe to its lineup back in 2007 as a direct response to models like BMW 3 Series Coupe. Two years later, the lineup was further expanded with the addition of a convertible version. The only update the A5 received was back in 2011, when Audi offered a revised exterior and interior look.

For the 2014 model year, the A5 remains basically unchanged and American customers can choose between the usual Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige trim levels. For the 2014 model year, the Premium Plus and Prestige models will be offered with an S-line competition package. Additionally, all the A5 models get an optional Black Optic package and new 19-inch Titanium Rotor wheels.

Also, for the 2014 model year, the only engine offered on the U.S. market - the 2.0 TFSI engine - was tricked to deliver extra power. To help it better compete with the C-Class and 4 Series .

Competitors

2014 BMW 4-Series Convertible

While we are still waiting to see the new 4 Series Convertible, we pretty much know everything there is to know about it, since BMW already unveiled the coupe version.

We will see a choice of two engines: a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers a total of 240 horsepower and a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter in-line-six engine with 300 horsepower.

No details on the prices, but we expect the 4-Series Convertible to start somewhere in the $44k area.

2014 Mercedes C-Class Convertible

Mercedes C-Class Convertible

Rumors suggest that the new generation C-Class set to hit showrooms in 2014 and will offer a convertible version. The model will be offered with the same engines as the sedan version and there will also be an AMG version powered by a 5.5-liter biturbo V-8 engine with an output of 420 horsepower.

Conclusion

The Audi A5 Convertible remains one of the most elegant convertible on the market. The only disadvantage it has is that customers only have one engine to choose from. We look for Audi to tart offering new engines in the coming years to keep it competitive. To be perfectly honest, it has to offer more engines or risk losing sales to its home-country rivals.
