2014 Audi R8 By XXX Performance

Sometimes, the best tuning programs are the ones that don’t carry performance upgrades. That might annoy some aftermarket enthusiasts, but it’s also true to a certain extent. Take this Audi R8 for example. It’s the work of German tuner xXx Performance, or Triple X Performance, depending on how you prefer to call the company. This R8 doesn’t have any overpowering engine upgrades; actually, the closest thing it has to a performance improvement is a new throttle system that serves a more complimentary purpose than anything else. What this R8 does have are aesthetic and wheel upgrades that help the Audi supercar blend the two-tone white-and-orange color scheme together nicely.

The program admittedly appeals more to the eyes than it does to the ears. It’s not for everybody, that much I’ll acquiesce to. But you can’t deny how incredibly explosive it looks, with the white body and the orange graphics and wheels. It also doesn’t mean you won’t be able enjoy the throaty roar of the R8’s 525-horsepower, 5.2-liter, V-10 engine. That element is still in place. It’s just that xXx placed more emphasis on turning this R8 into a can’t-take-your-eyes-off-of-it eye candy.

If you really want to catch peoples’ attention, orange wheels are one of the easiest ways to do it. xXx Performance actually enlisted the help of Schmidt to procure the wheels for this R8. The latter dutifully obliged and sent over a set new of 20-inch, neon-orange, deep-concave FS-line wheels wrapped in Hankook S1 Evo tires.

The other distinctive characteristic of this program is the xXx Performance’s playful use of the R8’s white body color and the orange graphic details on the sides of the car. The tuner even splashed its name on the doors of the R8, presumably to establish its ownership of this program.

xXx Performance also gave the R8 subtle aero improvements, particularly the widening of the body by 1.57 inches in the front and by 2.75 inches on the back. Enlarged wheel arches were also added to accommodate the bigger wheels.

The Audi R8 wasn’t only lowered into the tarmacs but is also expanded to more than 2 meters in width. The front fenders and the rear valance are individually designed and built in small batch. The aim is an outstanding car design - made to order. Wide body transformations with their spacious wheel arches will be filled with matching wheel- and tire conversions.

Only experienced and gifted craftsmen can do such kind of job. The company Schmidt GmbH in Germany is one of them(www.GERMAN-WHEELS.com). In northern Germany they are producing bespoke German Tuner wheels. Most of their wheels are modular and equipped with Radinox lips. All these rims are designed and tested for the use at a steady speed of 150mph and faster on the endless German "autobahn".

Any projected car will be measured accurately. Only when all the relevant location points are scanned into 3D the body transformation will start. In accordance with the individual requirements of each customer the Tuner builds a new and unique car.
