Launched in 2014, the third-generation Audi TT uses the Volkswagen Group MQB platform, which it shares with vehicles such as the Volkswagen Golf, Seat Leon, and Volkswagen Tiguan. Alongside the new platform, the TT also received an update styling language, a new interior, and a range of new and revised engines. As with previous generations, the standard TT was followed by a sportier TT S version and a high-performance TT RS model, as well as a handful of special-edition cars and even a race-spec Sport TT Cup variant. In 2016, Audi introduced a new limited-edition model, the TT S Line Competition, in Europe.

Much like previous special-edition TTs, such as the Nuvolari for instance, the S Line Competition comes with a number of unique features, extra standard equipment, and a special sticker that brings savings compared to regular models specced in a similar way. Available in both coupe and roadster versions, the S Line Competition gets a sportier exterior package that also includes a fixed rear wing, a unique upholstery inside the cabin, and a stiffer suspension setup.

The new limited-edition model will arrive in showrooms at the end of 2016, but it will only be offered in Europe. At least for the time being, as Audi has yet to say whether it will cross the pond to the U.S. at a later date.

What makes the Audi TT S Line Competition special

The first things that catch the eye when looking at the TT S Line Competition are the high-gloss black front grille, mirror caps, and rear diffuser, as well as the fixed rear wing. Detailing continues around back with a black-chrome finish for the tailpipes and onto the sides with gloss-black, five-spoke 19-inch wheels. The rims are highlighted by red-painted brake calipers. Exterior colors are limited to only four hues, and include Glacier White, Nano Gray, Tango Red, and the new Ara Blue.

The TT S Line Competition comes with plenty of extra goodies inside the cabin too. Both the coupe and convertible are fitted with S sport seats with embossed backrests, electrically adjustable lumbar support as standard, and an S Line sport steering wheel wrapped in leather.

The upholstery is also unique to this model. The seats and door armrests are upholstered in either a combination of leather and Alcantara or fine Nappa leather, in both cases in black. The seats, steering wheel, door panels, and gear shifter feature gray contrast stitching, while the inlays are in matt brushed aluminum. The air vents, the clip around the center console, and the seat trims have a Slate Gray chrome paint finish. Finally, the limited-edition model is equipped with a sport screen where the central tachometer with integrated speed display dominates the all-digital instrument cluster.

Under the hood, the S Line Competition gets the TT's turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 230 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. In other words, don't let the "TT S Line" denomination fool you, the Competition is not a full-fledged TT S, which uses a 310-horsepower and 280-pound-feet version of the same powerplant. However, the limited-edition model benefits from a sport suspension with firmer spring and damper settings that lowers the ride height by 10 mm (0.4 inches). Both the coupe and roadster are available with either front-wheel-drive and a six-speed manual transmission or S tronic, or with Quattro all-wheel-drive and S tronic.

Pricing of the TT S Line Competition starts from €41,940 for the coupe and €44,340 for the roadster (which converts to around $47,100 and $49,800, respectively). Neither model will be sold in the United States. For reference, the entry-level coupe starts from €32,550, while the TT S coupe retails from €49,950.
