2012 Audi S5 Coupe by Eibach
 
When Audi’s 2012 lineup was revealed, there were very little changes made to the car’s overall look. Aside from a few tweaks here and there, Audi’s main concern for the new model year S5 was the downsizing of the engine, from an eight cylinder to a 333 HP 3.0-liter V6 TFSI powerplant that produces less horsepower than its predecessor. German tuner, Eibach, didn’t have a problem with that as the V6 provided equal performance numbers to the 2011 model while also improving the car’s efficiency rating. What they did have a problem with, however, was the car’s handling, so they decided to generate more power with an optimum suspension set-up themed "Inspired by motorsport – Performance for the road." This new suspension system is composed of Pro-Kit Performance Springs and specially adapted mono-tube gas pressure shock absorbers from Bilstein. The best part of this new system is that it offers a slightly lowered center of gravity that makes the car look even more like the Audi A5 DTM version. The "Inspired by motorsport – Performance for the road" theme is extended to the exterior of the vehicle with a cool white finish combined with red graphics. Eibach also provided three different wheel options: Show & Shine for representative purposes, Performance for everyday use, and High Performance for the racetrack. A few days ago Audi has unveiled a pretty cool video presenting Audi R8 drifting as a tribute to their 500,000 German Facebook fans. Today the company has unveiled another video presenting the details behind the making of the first video. The car was driven by Dindo Capello who talks about this impressive experience. He considers that the most difficult part was making the "5:" "In the past, it would have been impossible to something like that without preparing the car for the event but now, with a Audi road car, you can do it." The Audi R8 is powered by a 5.2 liter V10 engine that delivers 518 HP and 391 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a seven-speed dual clutch S-tronic gearbox and sprints the car from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and up to a top speed of 197 mph. 2012 Audi Q7 V12 TDI by Fostla
The Q7 is one of the most impressive models Audi has ever offered, and the V12 TDI is the most powerful version offered. These two facts about this SUV is why German tuner, Fostla, decided this would be the car to receive one of their tuning kits. Their latest package jumps the Q7’s output to an amazing 600 HP, as well as tweaks its look to match. For 3500 euro ($4,500 at the current rates), Fostla will cover a customer’s Q7 in a cool PWF foil in diamond black matte, tint the front and back lights, and tone the discs to between 55% and 85%. For an extra 6000 euro ($7700 at the current rates), customers will get a new set of 11x23 inch matte powder coated side Mansory C5 wheels with 315/25R23 tires in combination with 15 mm front and 30 mm back track plates. To take care of the Audi Q7’s standard 500 HP, Fostla tricked out the 6.0-liter V12 engine with an ECU upgrade to allow it to push out 600 HP and 737 lb-ft of torque. The 0-60 mph sprint will now be made in 5.5 seconds. This added bonus will set customers back an additional $4,500. 2012 Audi Q3 Red Track Concept
Remember the Audi Q3 Jinlong Yufeng Concept that was revealed at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show? Well, it turns out the German automaker has another Q3 concept SUV in the pipeline: the Red Track Concept. Taken from its name, the Q3 Red Track Concept has been finished with a fiery piece of Energy Red color, an ironic color choice considering that the concept SUV is being pegged as a winter vehicle. How else do you explain the carbon fiber skis on its roof? But more than just its supposed purpose, the Q3 Red Track Concept actually looks a whole lot like the Q3 Vail Concept, except that the former has some added aesthetic touches. Either way, the SUV looks all sorts of spicy in that aforementioned Energy Red color. Too bad there’s been no official indication as to whether the Q3 Red Track Concept is bound for production. Whatever the case may be, expect to see the concept at the 2012 Wörthersee Tour, where it is expected to be one of the front and center models in Audi’s booth. Audi is dead set on hitting their goal of 1.5 million annual sales and expanding in markets like China, Germany, and the United States by 2015. In order to achieve this, its lineup needs to stay fresh, so Audi has gone trademark crazy with Q6, Q8, R6, S2, S9, RS1, and RS8 names getting snagged. As you can see, some of these name are rather familiar, like the Q6, RS1, and RS8. The other four names are completely new; we’ve never even heard rumors about them. Speculatively speaking, the S2 will be a sportier version of the upcoming A2, and the S9 name gives us hope for an A9 in the near future. As for the R6, it is believed to be the company’s new sports car that will be placed under the current R8. This vehicle was previously rumored to be called either the R4 or R5. Only time will tell if any one of these names will stick. As for the Q8, it will be an SUV placed above the current Q7. It is set to become the largest and most luxurious SUV Audi has ever offered. Driving a high-performance car comes with various pros and cons. Whether you own a full-blown supercar, muscle car, or simply a sports car with a high power-to-weight ratio, controlling your right foot and the throttle pedal is, and always has been, a delicate balance. This is thoroughly demonstrated in the featured video. Filmed somewhere in Russia, the video depicts an Audi R8 supercar cruising the Russian streets before slamming into what’s suspected to be a Lada Samara in just a matter of seconds. As you’ll soon see, the R8 is seen making a U-turn from one direction of flow to the opposite direction of flow, before performing yet another U-turn just seconds after the first one. It’s currently unclear why the R8 driver did this, but the result is as plain as day. While performing the second U-turn, the driver either intentionally or unintentionally kicked the tail of the rear-wheel drive supercar out, performing a drift Ken Block would be proud of. However, the result wouldn’t make anyone proud. After drifting into traffic, the R8 smashes into a Lada Samara which rolls after the impact. However, instead of checking to see if the occupants were uninjured, the R8 driver instead paused momentarily while remaining in the car, before speeding off from the scene, even running a red light to escape the scene. Although no number plates can be seen in the video, it’s likely to be crucial part of evidence if police decide to investigate the matter further. Remember, please don’t try this at home!
2014 Audi Q2
Audi currently offers a Q3, a Q5, and a Q7 SUV in their line-up, with a Q6 in the pipeline to serve as a competitor for the BMW X6. Now new rumors suggest that the company is already working on a new baby SUV that will be sportier than the five-door Q3. The future Audi Q2 will be built on the MQB Group architecture and will be closer in design to the A1. Rumors say that the new Q2 will introduce advanced LED headlight technology never before seen in small cars and that Audi will offer customers the chance to personalize the Q2 in any way they see fit. The Q2 will be a two-door SUV featuring a front-wheel drive system as standard, but quattro four-wheel drive will be offered for the most powerful versions. Under the hood, we will see the same engines as in the A1 including a 1.4-liter direct-injection four-cylinder turbo and an efficient 1.6-liter diesel engine. A concept version of the Audi Q2 should debut in about a year’s time, with a production version set to arrive in 2014.
Video: Walter Rohl will return to Pikes Peak with the Audi Sport quattro S1
25 years ago, Walter Rohl won the 1987 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb while driving the Audi Sport quattro S1. Fast forward to this year and the 2012 installment of the annual race in Colorado will ring nostalgic as Rohl is set to make his return race to Pikes Peak. The car Rohl will be piloting? No other than the same 591-horsepower Audi Sport quattro S1 he raced to victory a quarter of a century ago. In this video, Audi takes us on behind-the-scenes look at preparations being done on the Sport quattro S1 leading up to its Pikes Peak return. Fascinating is an understatement in trying to describe the video, especially when you take into account all the things that need to be done to ensure that a 25-year old race car can tackle Pikes Peak the same way it did during its lean years. Audi doesn’t mind pushing the envelope a little further than most people would and has proven that with the release of a new Le Mans race car. The racer is called the R18 e-Tron hybrid quattro, a four-wheel driven diesel hybrid race car that’s set to compete at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans in France on June 16 and 17, 2012. Working under the same principles as that of the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid, the R18 e-Tron hybrid quattro uses kinetic energy that’s recovered whenever the car brakes, storing that energy in the flywheel accumulator as electricity before being sent back to the electric motors on the front wheels. The motors take car of the front of the vehicle, while the rear wheels get their power from the car’s 510-horsepower V6 TDI engine. The only difference between the aforementioned Porsche and the R18 e-Tron hybrid quattro is that the latter is considered a mild hybrid, using a petrol engine along with electricity. Since the car uses a heavy hybrid system, Audi went and designed the race car’s gearbox using carbon fiber composite housing, alleviating some of the weight brought about by the complicated drivetrain. Before it struts its wares in Le Mans, the car will be put through the paces on May 5th at the 6-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium where it will be raced by Allan McNish, Dindo Capello Tom Kristensen and Benoît Tréluyer, André Lotterer and Marcel Fässler. Updated 05/04/2012: Audi’s new R18 e-tron will be making its racing debut this week-end at round two of the new FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at Spa, Belgium. Our favorite Youtube user, Marchettino, has managed to delight us one more time by attending the 2012 edition of the Top Marques Monaco to film all of the amazing vehicles in attendance. We have to admit the list of supercars is quite impressive. For those who don’t know, the Top Marques is an important supercar show that brings together some of the most expensive and exclusive supercars, hypercars, and tuning projects every year. It’s kind of like Christmas for us auto journalists, but without the big, jolly guy giving one of these supercars to us as a present. This kind of Christmas comes with huge prices and tremendous power backing it up. Our favorite from the entire list of vehicles in attendance this year is the Koenigsegg Agera R, but the list is much, much longer.
