The German power house Senner Tuning has just released a new customization program for the Audi R8 super car. Their kit turns the high performance mid engine sports car into a true Super Sport machine. By adding what most may feel are a few simple upgrades when looked at individually, but when joined together they work to improve upon every aspect of the R8’s attitude. Starting out with what we can’t see, Senner has replaced the paper air filters with a set of sport filters that flow more air and allow the re calibrated ECU to do what it does, pumping out 458 HP. Spent gasses are then spit out of Senner’s custom high performance exhaust complete with adjustable valve control to keep tones under control when necessary and then open to reveal a true super car bark.
As far as making the Quattro driven Audi R8 handle even better than the factory version, Senner has upgraded the stiff stuff with an adjustable sport suspension that not only lowers the Audi’s center of gravity, but just like the exhaust system, it too can adapt to any situation. However it is where the rubber meets the road that can make the biggest difference, so Senner has upgraded the R8 with a set of staggered 20 inch rims wrapped in sticky Dunlop SportMaxx tires. For only 14,900.00 Euros Senner Tuning will transform your own R8 into a Super Sport model as well.
When is about a modified Audi R8 into a much better sports car, we are more than happy to report about it, even if its just a tuner you do not hear often about it. We are sure that Eisenmann GmbH is a name that might not say much to you, but they have created a special package for the R8 Sports car. Called Spark 8, it includes Carbon Kevlar and Carbon Fiber fabrics that strongly improves the car’s strength.
In the spirit of the coming holidays, Audi has effectively gift-wrapped the new Audi A8 in a blanket of aluminum foil, concealing the car’s appearance from the wandering eyes of the public until its much-anticipated unveiling on November 30.
We’re not big fans of having to wait for the covers to be lifted but we do appreciate a good set-up when we see one. If you don’t know, the Audi A8 will be launched at the Audi Pavilion in Miami on Monday, at which time; the public will finally get a first-hand look at Audi’s new flagship luxury car.
We’re pretty sure by now you know that August Horch was the one responsible for Audi. You didn’t? Well, he is (he was also a former engineer for Karl Benz – the other guy in the Mercedes-Benz - tie-up, but that’s not relevant to the topic at hand). As a matter of fact, if you translate ’Horch’ to Latin, you’d come up with – make a wild guess – Audi.
That being said, you can expect that the man whose name bears the brand would have a car named after him. And the company did just that with the Horch - a car that survived until 1953 when the last one was rolled out of Ingolstadt. In recent years, Audi has been in search to find the last Horch that was created in ’53. So they got Ralph Hornung, their resident vintage car locator, to find the missing car.
It’s a treasure hunt that would make even Indian Jones blush.
After months of searching, Hornung found his unicorn in West Texas. We’ve spoiled enough so we’re just going to let you watch the video to find out how Hornung ended up in the most unlikely of places and, more importantly, how the Horch found itself there in the first place.
Sports and cars. Cars and sports. You can interchange the two things but if you’re a card-carrying member of the male specie, you can never have one without the other.
The German automaker recently announced that it will buy a 9% share of one of the most successful German football clubs, FC Bayern Munich. As part of the two parties’ agreement, Audi will be buying 2.5 million shares of Bayern Munich worth about $135 million and will pay the football team in three stages, with the first instalment coming on March 2010.
It’s not the first time Audi has been involved with FC Bayern Munich in some capacity in the past. Back in 2003, a number of Audi employees began the “Audi FC Bayern Fan Club”, a dedicated group of Audi-driving Bayern Munich fans that is now considered as the biggest fan club in Germany with over 5,000 members.
From the people that brought you last year’s ‘Truth in 24’ documentary – a behind the scenes look at the 24 hours of Le Mans – comes a new documentary called Truth in Motion: The Road to Vancouver.
Directed by Academy Award nominee Brett Morgen, the ‘Truth in Motion: The Road to Vancouver’ documentary chronicles the preparations, trials, and tribulations of the US Ski Teams as it prepares for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. The new documentary, which is scheduled to premiere on January 30 on NBC, is commissioned by Audi of America – the same people who gave us the critically-acclaimed ‘Truth in 24’ documentary.
As one of the main supporters of the US Ski Team, Audi of America found the perfect opportunity to create awareness and drum up support for the US Ski Team as it prepares to take on the very best the world has to offer at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
"Audi of America’s continued sponsorship of the U.S. Ski Team has been a perfect fit from day one," said Scott Keogh, chief marketing officer, Audi of America. "This film is exemplary of our dedication to this team and the unique stories it will create, as well as a chance to chronicle the synchronous use of technology, innovation and willpower that defines both Audi and the U.S. Ski Team."
As far as we’re concerned, if this new documentary is anywhere as good as its predecessor, then we can say without hint of hesitancy that this will be one show you wouldn’t want to miss.
The German tuning house Motoren Technik Mayer made news the other day when they managed to squeeze 424 HP out of the turbo five cylinder Audi TT-RS, and they aren’t stopping yet. The worst part about Audi dropping the magnificent 4.2 Liter FSI V8 from the lineup is that you no longer had 420 HP at your disposal. However MTM has just come up with a solution for owners of the drop top Audi S5 luxury vehicle to enjoy their long wheelbase sports car.
The new performance package consists of a few little computer chips and a free flowing exhaust to take your 333 HP supercharged V6 and boosts it to produce a maximum output of 430 HP and 380 lb-ft of torque, making the smaller engine even more powerful than the old R8’s unit. The bet part is that you don’t have to sacrifice drivability and being a bad neighbor because the MTM exhaust system was built with throttle valves in the tips in order to quiet it down when necessary. The MTM S5 Convertible can now sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in only 5.1 seconds and along with the M-Cantronic unit, the V-Cantronic with V/Max eliminator allows you to reach a top speed of 177 MPH.
In order to ensure that the rest of the car is up to the new car’s power output MTM also included a set of their signature Bimoto rims measuring 21 inches in diameter so that they can fit the MTM-Brembo 8 piston calipers and oversized brake disks. Keeping the chassis stable at speed MTM saw fit to use one of their ride height adjustable performance spring kits and ensuring that their rears stayed planted a pair of leather wrapped Recaro Sportser CS racing buckets were installed up front. Overall MTM has managed to massage practically every aspect of the S5 convertible to make it into something more deserving of an RS badge.
The German tuning firm MTM has released the official details about their upgrade package for the Audi TT-RS sports car. Inspired by the Ur-Quattro S1 from Group B rally racing, the MTM TT-RS combines a powerful turbocharged five cylinder engine with Audi’s patented Quattro all wheel drive system to create a compact tuner car that is capable of besting even R8 super car owners.
MTM is offering the power package in three different stages. The top of the line upgrade gives the lightweight four wheel drive a total of 424 HP, 84 more ponies then from the factory. This level of output allows the TT-RS to sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in four seconds and reach a top speed of 184 MPH. The other to packages offer TT owners either 404 HP or 408 HP, now we aren’t quite sure as to what makes up the 4 HP difference between the two, and MTM wasn’t getting into the specifics. Rounding out the upgrade package, MTM has also fitted the TT-RS with a set of their signature BIMOTO sport rims available in either 19 or 20 inch diameters as well a variety of spacers to get the car’s stance just right. No matter which combination of power and style you choose, it will take a very exotic 5.2 Liter V10 for any other Audi to come close to the level of performance available from this MTM modified TT-RS.
Days before the world premier of the new Audi A8 at the Audi Pavilion in Miami, the boys from Ingolstadt released a short teaser video of the new flagship luxury sedan.
It looks like Audi is really pushing hard to create an artsy spin on the new A8, even going as far as giving us a rather, ‘artistic’ teaser of the new A8. Not much of the car is shown, but it does make you wonder as to what the unveiling is going to be like on November 30.
As far as we’re concerned, we have a gut feeling that it’s going to be something we’ve never seen before. But that’s just us.
One unlucky Audi R8 owning Californian learned what it feels like to be a piece of meat in when he unexpectedly taken from behind by a BMW 6 Series and sandwiched between it and a much larger (and heavier) Range Rover SUV. Unfortunately for the four ringed super car driver his dream car now looks like it was chewed up and spat out like a rotten piece of salami. The good part is that the Audi’s aluminum skin took the brunt of the impact and everyone inside was fine, however the worst part is that the R8’s aluminum skin too the brunt of the impact and even a slight fender bender looks like quite a bit of damage.
On the upside, if the red R8 owner’s insurance is any good and the adjuster is a nice guy, this just might be the perfect excuse to upgrade his wheels to the new 5.2 Liter V10 powered aluminum super car. Honestly there is no excuse for 4.2 Liter FSI owners to trade in their perfectly good mid engine machines, if it is a bump in output that they are after then the aftermarket already has a plethora of forced induction options that makes the old car even more powerful than the new car and combined with the V8’s weight savings should make for a more nimble machine. That is if you aren’t provided with an opportunity like this guy. This is just another silver lining on a very ominous dark cloud, it just depends on how you look at it.
