In the midst of all the top names in sports car history, Briggs Automotive Company (BAC) is stepping up to the plate with their new lightweight, ultra high performance, road legal Mono. The BAC Mono is designed and manufactured using the latest racing technology and is battling for top billing amongst vehicles like the Ariel Atom and KTM X-Bow.

The BAC Mono track is a single central-seat featuring an aggressive design. It is constructed from high-strength carbon fiber composite and is powered by a 2.3 liter four-cylinder engine that delivers a total of 280 HP. This engine sprints the car to an impressive top speed of 170 mph.

In the official statement, BAC describes their work: "Aimed at drivers who seek a purist driving experience and for whom design, engineering excellence and performance are of paramount importance, Mono is an aggressive design and will set a new benchmark in the small, but elite segment of radical, lightweight sports cars."

For those interested, the Mono is currently on sale for £66,625, or about $107,400 at the current exchange rates, plus local taxes.

UPDATE 12/09/2011: Any fans of the special BAC Mono will be happy to hear that the car will be imported to the US market by Sector111 LLC, California. Only 12 units will be offered at a starting price of $130,000 each.

Exterior and Interior

The BAC Mono is a road legal, track day car featuring a single, central-seat design. The exterior of the Mono isn’t as cage-like as its competitors as it features an enclosed front end while the back exposes all of the Mono’s mechanical bits. It is made from high-strength carbon fiber composite which is wrapped around a steel safety cell. The safety cell has an FIA compliant steel rollover structure, a side impact structure, and a front carbon crashbox.

Customers can choose from a wide array of exterior colors including Robot White, Raptor Grey, Seal Grey, Titanium metallic, Gun Metal Grey metallic, Black metallic, White pearl metallic, Green pearl metallic, Gitane Blue pearl metallic, Red pearl metallic, Yellow pearl metallic, and Orange pearl metallic.

Engine

Under the hood of the BAC Mono is a normally-aspirated 2.3-liter Cosworth unit mounted longitudinally that delivers a total of 280 HP at 7700rpm and a peak torque of 206 lb-ft at 6000rpm. The engine is mated to an electronically-controlled, paddle-shift, six-speed sequential Hewland transmission with limited-slip differential and sprints the car from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds, 0 to 100 mph in 6.7 seconds while top speed goes up to an impressive 170 mph.

Prices

The BAC Mono is priced at £66,625 or about $107,400 at the current exchange rates, plus local taxes.

Competition

As previously stated, the BAC Mono is hoping to join the ranks of the Ariel Atom and KTM XBow. Both options are more powerful than the Mono with the Ariel Atom packing a 500hp 2.4 liter V8 engine and the newest KTM XBow R bringing an Audi sourced engine with 300hp.

This is definitely one of the racing bred vehicle. The styling look so futuristic and aggressive! However, I still refer the KTM for its more powerful compare to this vehicle.

Well, this one is definitely a nice looking car. But alas, we mere mortals won’t be able to have it. Might as well just enjoy ourselves by looking at it.

Yeah definitely a freaking good looking toy. I really like how they decided to ditch the traditional design and made this one very futuristic looking.

This one is definitely an impressive toy for the big boys. I wonder of this is street legal. Would really be nice to drive to the office in one of these.

Well known, this one is actually a fine looking car. And it is street legal right. Wonder how it would feel to drive this one on the road.

I would definitely pick this one over the Atom. I really like its design because it feels rather unique when compared to the more conventional designs of its competitors.

When i first saw this truck it reminded me of the KTM and Ariel Atom! Yeah, i was right! There’s a competition between the three. I think they should join the F1 so that we will know who’s better among them. I’m looking forward for this race!
