Bentley Continental

The British automaker Bentley has used the Continental name on a number of high end luxury coupes since 1952. The last version of the classic Continental was powered by a 6 3/4 Liter turbocharged V8 producing 420 HP and 650 lb-ft of torque and despite its large size could accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in only 6.6 seconds and reach a 170 MPH top speed.

Bentley develops new turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine

Bentley has currently postponed plans for launching any new model or updates for their current models. Instead, the company is moving forward in the development of a new turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine that will be used for the future models starting next year. Coincidentally, the same engine will be used for the new Audi S6 and RS6.

The new V8 engine will be offered in two different versions: a single-turbo unit with around 415 HP - used for the entry level models - and a twin-turbo version with close to 555 HP for the speedier versions (like the RS6). The new engine will be combined with a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission.

Bentley will unveil the new GTC at the Frankfurt Motor Show where Audi will also bring the S6, but the new V8 engine won’t be revealed until next year, most likely at the Geneva Motor Show.

2011 Bentley Continental GTO by Onyx

In the past, Onyx Cars has typically stayed glued to the SUV lineup of a number of brands, but last year, something funny happened; the luxury tuner revealed a tuning package for the Bentley Continental. Now back to prove that that package was not a mere fluke, Onyx Cars has developed yet another tuning package for the luxury coupe, working off of the previous package they created. The new package includes exterior and interior updates, as well as a 20 HP boost over the original.

The exterior was spruced up with a modified front bumper with carbon fiber inserts and a lower front splitter. Brightening up the front of the car are new LED daytime running lights. Moving to the side of the Bentley, Onyx added some new side skirts and then widened the wheel arches a bit. The back of the car received a revised bumper, a rear carbon diffuser, and a carbon fiber boot lid spoiler. Finishing off the package is a new set of 22-inch black forged wheels.

The interior wasn’t exactly the focus of the tuning firm so all they added was their typical bespoke buffalo leather and carbon fiber paneling.

As for the engine updates, Onyx Cars took the Bentley Continental GT’s standard 6.0 liter W12 and bumped it up from the standard 567 HP all the way to 660 HP. That final outcome is 20 HP up from their last tuning project for the same car.

2012 Bentley Supersports Continental Convertible ISR Mulliner

Back in February, a Bentley Continental Supersport became the fastest car on ice. Sure, the record was short-lived because Audi went ahead and put their RS6 to the test and beat out the Bentley, but the company had already seized the opportunity to unveil a special edition Continental Supersport at the Geneva Motor Show. It’s just a couple of short months later and Bentley has announced the availability of a special ISR Mulliner design package as a no cost option.

The new Mulliner package adds a set of 20" 10-spoke wheels painted in vibrant red with a diamond turned finish, dual-louvered dark bonnet vents (unique to Supersports models), red accent surrounds, and a set of bold of Supersports ISR graphics that run down both flanks of the car.

Nothing was changed under the hood so that leaves customers with a W12 engine mated to a mated to a Quickshift six-speed automatic transmission that together produce 631 HP and 590lb ft. The engine will sprint the car from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and to 100 mph from a standing start in only 9.5 seconds.

Video: Platinum Motorsport’s "EPIC" tuning showcase

US-based tuner Platinum Motorsport has done a remarkable job in their years as one of the finest American tuning company’s. And if there ever was doubt about the capabilities of these guys, then this two-and-half minute video, which they appropriately called ‘Epic’, will squash all that skepticism away faster than the time it takes for your jaws to drop on the floor.

The video features six vehicles that have all passed through the hands of Platinum Motorsport, including the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, the Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series, and the Bentley Continental Supersports. Through our eyes, these cars are some of the finest aftermarket works we’ve seen and catching all of them in one video taking a tour of the streets of LA together is just about the very reason why the word ‘epic’ was put in the dictionary in the first place.

Check out the video and let us know how many of these amazing cars you’d want in your garage. If you ask us, we’ll take all six in a heartbeat.

Bentley Supersport Light Body Watch

Bentley Continental Supersports is the most impressive model the British company has revealed on the market. No wonder why Breitling has revealed a watch as impressive as the car. The watch comes with a ultra-light titanium case and is about about 45mm wide. It will be offered in a red and black motif and will be launched at Baselworld 2011.

The new Breitling for Bentley watch powerfully complements the design of the Supersports convertible. With its light and sturdy titanium chassis, its “dashboard-style” dial enhanced by three ringed counters and its bezel with a typically Bentley-style raised knurled motif, the Supersports Light Body limited series evokes a sophisticated high-powered coupe car.

In tribute to its sporting qualities, Breitling has equipped it with an extremely intelligent and exclusive double-counter system, featuring a central minute hand and a twin-handed totalizator enabling one to read the elapsed hours and minutes at a glance just as one usually reads standard time on a watch.

Bentley Supersport sets a new world speed record on ice

The Supersports model is undoubtedly the most powerful and fastest Continental Bentley has ever built. And, if you don’t believe us, check out the new world record set by the Continental Supersports convertible. The droptop Bentley was able to hit a top speed of 205.48 mph on the frozen waters of the Baltic Sea, off the coast of Finland.

With only a roll-cage, Pirelli winter tires, a rear parachute, and a few minor aerodynamic changes added to the Bentley, world rally champion, Juha Kankkunen, got behind the wheel of this powerful beast and sped his way through the slippery terrain to achieve the world record. He said, "200mph came up after 5km on sheet ice. Then it was just a question of getting everything right in the timing zone and hoping the snow kept away. There’s nothing to beat driving a Bentley at these speeds; the conditions may be perilous but the car responds so well to the slightest adjustment which gives you the confidence to push even harder."

German tuner, Wheelsandmore, provided a kickass tuning package for the Bentley Continental Supersports back in 2010 and we are happy to report that they are revisiting the Bentley brand with a new package for the Continental’s Convertible version.

The engine upgrade is nothing new considering these are the same modifications Wheelsandmore made to the Continental Coupe just last year. Adding power to an already amazing turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 engine is done with the use of an ECU upgrade combined with a handmade, stainless steel exhaust system and a remote controlled valve flap system, leaving the convertible with 702 HP and 650 lb-ft of torque (up from a standard of 621 HP and 590 lbs-ft. Getting this kingpin to stop are new carbon-ceramic brakes measuring 16.54 inches, the largest available.

Making their second appearance on a Bentley model are the 3-piece C-Sport wheels measuring 10.5x21 inches. These customizable wheels further enhance the look and feel of the vehicle with the use of just about any color imaginable. The final touch is a new electronic lowering module from Wheelsandmore called "LowMaXX". This new suspension raises and lowers the vehicle by around 0.79 inches at a speed of 44 mph to restore comfort and safety.

2010 Bentley GT Supersports Edition by Anderson Germany

The past couple of months have been quite busy for tuning firm, Anderson Germany, with their tuning kits for brands such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Mercedes, but with a breakout involving such esteemed auto brands, where should they go next? Well, a Bentley, of course. Introducing the new tuning kit by Anderson Germany for the recently launched Bentley GT Supersports.

Much to our delight, the biggest changes were made under the hood. The tuner executed a software optimization along with a new valve controlled sports exhaust system (weight lowering by 17 kg/38 lb) with racing cats and sports air filter. The result? An impressive 695 HP.

The exterior package includes a new diffuser besides front and rear apron, as well as the corresponding side skirts and a rear spoiler. The whole package is finished by 22" 3-part light alloy rims. The interior will get garnish moldings, center consoles in front and rear, and carbon fiber interior light boardings. Adding sultry touches to the interior is the Alcantara equipment in combination with black leather and piping in the car’s color.
