  The British automaker Bentley has used the Continental name on a number of high end luxury coupes since 1952. The last version of the classic Continental was powered by a 6 3/4 Liter turbocharged V8 producing 420 HP and 650 lb-ft of torque and despite its large size could accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in only 6.6 seconds and reach a 170 MPH top speed.

The new Bentley Continental GTC just made its North American debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show and will be sold in here at a starting price of $212,800. But while people were amazed by its beauty in LA, in UK a Bentley Continental Bentley Continental GTC has been auctioned for an impressive £240,000, or about $325,000 at the current exchange rates. All the proceeds went to this year’s Children in Need fundraising activities.

The best part about drawing a line in the sand is that it can always be erased and redrawn. Case in point, new Bentley boss, Wolfgang Durheimer has revealed that an even more powerful version of the Bentley Continental is in the works. The model will be called the Continental GT2 and will be about 441 lbs lighter than the current GT (5,115 lbs) with extra ponies to boot.

Durheimer didn’t want to spill the beans about what will be found under the hood, but it will either be the current W12 engine or the new twin turbo V8. Either way, the GT2 will be pushing out 650 HP making it even more powerful than the 621 HP Supersports model (pictured above). It will also be the first Continental model to feature a four-wheel-drive system.

The Bentley Continental GT2 will be built as a limited edition only and has been described by sources as "the fastest, most spectacular and most powerful road car Bentley has ever built."

"I definitely think there is room for a car with more power than the Supersport," Durheimer said. "I also think some of what we did with the Supersport in the past wasn’t quite right. For example, it should not be a two-seater. That layout should be reserved for the top-line cars."

Yesterday, there were reports that the new generation Porsche 911 would be around for the next 14 years, sprouting off a ton of variations in the process. The number of variants really isn’t anything new though. Wolfgang Durheimer had a hand in developing this game plan during his stay at Porsche and, now that he has moved on, Durheimer plans to do the same with Bentley . The Porschification of Bentley is further underway with the addition of ex-Porsche engineer, Rolf Frech, as Chief Engineer for Bentley starting in November 2011. Together, these two are ready to tackle Bentley’s future.

p>"We can make more of the Continental line up than we have today," Bentley CEO Wolfgang Durheimer said. "I could see it developing as the 911 derivatives did; lightweight models, special models, that was a very successful strategy. With the Mulsanne we get requests all the time for a longer wheelbase model, for instance. The question is whether we do it as a special order or put it on the model line. We are evaluating it, but I have no doubt we could also sell that type of car in the US and China."

Bentley’s new plans for their lineup include a Mulsanne convertible and coupe, as well as a few new versions for the Continental line-up currently consisting of the Supersports , Flying Spur , GT , and GTC models. Rumors about coupe and convertible versions of the Mulsanne have been circulating for some time now, but now it’s official. It is also believed that a Mulsanne convertible will revive the Azure name.

Major auto shows like Frankfurt don’t come by without the participation of renowned tuning firm, Mansory. This year’s no different as the German tuning company has rolled out plenty of programs for some of the most expensive exotics on the market.

One of Mansory ’s offerings for Frankfurt is for the Bentley Continental GT and it comes with plenty of aerodynamic and performance upgrades. Speaking about the former, Mansory dressed up the Continental GT with a plethora of items made from lightweight autoclave carbon, including a new front and rear apron that’s been integrated with a new side skirt set. There’s also a spoiler lip, a redesigned engine hood and front fenders, and a new set of 22" alloy wheels. Interior improvements are also available as part of the package with customers getting free reign to design it according to their preference.

In addition to the aforementioned aerodynamic modifications, the Continental GT also gets an impressive power boost courtesy of a reprogrammed engine management system, a sports air filter, and a new sports exhaust system. All these additions took the Continental’s 6.0-liter bi-turbo W12 engine output from the standard 567 horsepower and 516 lb/ft of torque all the way up to 672 horsepower and 575 lb/ft of torque.

For a company that knows their aftermarket programs really well, Mansory’s new program for the Bentley Continental GT doesn’t disappoint.

The Bentley Continental Supersports is one of the preeminent luxury cars to come out of the UK. Renntech is a Florida-based tuning company that specializes on performance programs for some of the most famous European sports cars in the world. And when British luxury meets American tuning prowess, the results can be downright impressive.

Renntech has come out with a new performance program for the Continental Supersports, one that includes a combination of an ECU remap and the addition of a new performance stainless steel exhaust system. As one of the foremost authorities in tuning Bosch and Siemans engine control units - the same one found on the Continental Supersports - Renntech was able offer significant improvements in the car’s performance and throttle response without sacrificing the Continental Supersport’s noted reliability.

In order to achieve their goal of ratcheting up the Bentley engine’s specs, Renntech modified the ignition timing and throttle mapping of the engine, optimized the air and fuel ratios, increased the engine’s rev limiter, and tweaked the boost mapping. The result is a 6.0-liter turbocharged W12 engine that saw its output increase from the standard 621 horsepower and 590 lb/ft of torque all the way up to 710 horsepower and 680 lb/ft of torque.

Noted for their works with Mercedes vehicles, Renntech is quickly proving that they can run the whole gamut of high-end performance cars, including the Bentley Continental Supersports.

Bentley , in collaboration with British design company, Linley, has announced a special edition Continental Flying Spur limited to only 10 units. The model will be sold in China where large four-door models are the most successful.

The special edition Continental Flying Spur Linley features a special rose-wood applied to the fascia, center console, waistrail, and roof console. The veneers cover the entire wood surfaces of the model, where Bentley chestnut or walnut would normally be used.

A unique Linley Helix motif has been taken from the distinctive Linley Helix Furniture Collection and is being used on the waist-rails and picnic table of the Flying Spurs. The Helix pattern is made up of four different types of veneer which contrast with the Santos rosewood to show the wave effect delivered by the marquetry. In addition, the rear console is being modified for a customer-commissioned Linley humidor.

Brett Boydell, senior designer at Bentley, says: "A special box has been designed by Linley which drops into a unique console. We have reconfigured the console so that the box can fit in, moving things around and creating a space. It was an engineering feat to meet the quality requirements of a Bentley and the design cues of Linley."

The Speed version of the new Bentley Continental GT has been completely stripped of its camouflage and our spy photographers were there to capture this beast on film before its Frankfurt Auto Show debut next month.

The final product for the GT Speed gets a redesigned and more pronounced front bumper, giving it a sportier and more aggressive look. A few interior upgrades have also been installed, including new seats and a new navigation system situated in the updated dash.

The changes we are most interested in seeing are found under the hood. There seems to be some changes in the exhaust system, clearly indicating a greater output. The previous GT Speed had 9% more power and 15% more torque than the base Continental GT . If this same increase applies to the new GT Speed, the W-12 will be pump out around 621 horses and 590 ft/lbs of torque.

Along with the added power, the GT Speed will also benefit from a weight loss program. The Bentley Continental GT already boasts of a 143 lbs weight loss, but the GT Speed will add to that to boost fuel efficiency. The lighter body and the added power could propel the GT Speed to 60mph in the 3.8-3.9 second range.

The 2012 Bentley Continental GT Speed will debut next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show so stay tuned for more details!

As the English philosopher Francis Bacon once said, "Nothing is pleasant that is not spiced with variety." Most car manufacturers, after efforts like the 2012 Bentley Continental GT , would have been happier to call it a day. However, Bentley looked at this automotive Adonis and decided "everything can be improved." This style of constant tweaking has resulted in multiple versions of the GT Continental. The first of these "tweaks" for the 2012 Bentley Continental GT is the new GT Speed .

This Adonis in an Armani suit will be given a shot in the arm. The previous GT Speed had 9% more power and 15% more torque than the base GT Continental. If this same increase applies to the new GT Speed, the W-12 will be pump out around 621 horses and 590 ft/lbs of torque. This would install the GT Speed as a next door neighbor to the top of the line Continental Supersports.

There is always at least one person out there who is not satisfied with the tuning packages provided to the masses. In fact, there is typically many more than one, but only a few have the financial means to walk right into an exclusive tuning firm and request a one-off model to be made. This is what one UK man did when he called up Scotland tuning firm - Imperium - and asked to get a one-off bespoke Bentley Continental GT tailored to his exact specifications.

This special Continental GT features uniquely designed front and rear apron upgrades, aggressive carbon exposed side skirts, a subtle boot lip spoiler, and a rear carbon fiber diffuser. The special Imperium Continental GT will also receive one-off designed and manufactured ultra light fully forged alloy wheels. They will get a special design, color, and finish as directed by the client himself.

Next to the exterior updates, the model will also receive an optimized braking system, a lowered sport suspension, and an ECU upgrade. The exhaust system has been individually tailored to the exact level of exhaust noise and depth of sound desired by the client. The tuner hasn’t revealed how these changes will improve the 6.0 liter W12 engine’s performance, but expect a bit more than the car’s current 567 HP.

This highly detailed client also provided details as to how the interior was to be made over, choosing specially hand selected luxurious leathers, tailor made carbon fiber, refined wood trim, ultra suede, classic black piano finishes, and a beautiful individually built and designed ergonomic sports steering wheel.

Just the fact that this guy had a hand in just about every aspect of the transformation of the vehicle is enough for us to drool incessantly. The added - and truly tremendous - bonus is that he gets to take it home.

Bentley Continental GTC

Bentley has currently postponed plans for launching any new model or updates for their current models. Instead, the company is moving forward in the development of a new turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine that will be used for the future models starting next year. Coincidentally, the same engine will be used for the new Audi S6 and RS6 .

The new V8 engine will be offered in two different versions: a single-turbo unit with around 415 HP - used for the entry level models - and a twin-turbo version with close to 555 HP for the speedier versions (like the RS6). The new engine will be combined with a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission.

Bentley will unveil the new GTC at the Frankfurt Motor Show where Audi will also bring the S6, but the new V8 engine won’t be revealed until next year, most likely at the Geneva Motor Show.
