Bentley Continental

  The British automaker Bentley has used the Continental name on a number of high end luxury coupes since 1952. The last version of the classic Continental was powered by a 6 3/4 Liter turbocharged V8 producing 420 HP and 650 lb-ft of torque and despite its large size could accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in only 6.6 seconds and reach a 170 MPH top speed.

If you could pit one sports car and one luxury car to engage in a good old fashioned quarter-mile race, you couldn’t find a more unlikely pairing than a Nissan GT-R and a Bentley Continental Supersports .

That is, until you look at the tale of the tape. Then the stats will tell you that
despite the obvious disparities, these two cars are a lot more evenly-matched than you’d think. Consider for a second that the Bentley is half a ton heavier than the GT-R. On the other hand, it also puts out about 140 more horsepower – 621 to 485 - than Godzilla, so at the end of the day, the two car’s power-to-weight ratio rounds out to about 8lb/hp.

Its not every day that you have the opportunity to see two of the most exotic luxury cars on the planet engaged in an unfortunate incident, so to close out the year with a bang we bring you a Maybach Maybach 62 and a Bentley Continental who got a little too close to each other right before Christmas. It seems that the ice covered Russian roads were to blame for the accident, but both drivers walked away unharmed with only their egos sustaining considerable damage. However just by these car’s nature, any repair work is guaranteed to come at a hefty cost. Hopefully the new year will be better for these drivers then the last.

Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible spy shots

We have already seen the fixed roof version of the Continental SuperSports , however a drop top convertible variant of the factory tuned super coupe has just been spotted in Portugal. This is good news for those with more money then they know what to do with who already own a lightweight 621 HP Bentley because now they will be able to get a matching vehicle. Judging by how finished the Supersports convertible appears, we can expect to see the car’s official debut sometime in early 2010. The standard Continental SuperSports is powered by a turbocharged 6.0 Liter W12 engine that delivers an additional 21 HP over the high performance Continental GT Speed and 243 pounds lighter to boot. With this much power the Supersports wafts from 0 to 60 MPH in an extraordinary 3.7 seconds and can reach a top speed of around 204 MPH, we don’t expect the convertible Continental to be far off.

Although you may not have heard of the the Japanese petroleum group, the Nippon Oil Corporation, however you may be familiar with the name Eneos. Even though we don’t have any of their gas stations here in the U.S. you might have seen the red Eneos sticker stuck to the front of synthetic oil products in almost any automotive parts store here in the States. Aside from the lovely ladies posing for photos and signing autographs, they also had a few high end vehicles on display at their booth at the 2009 SEMA Show in Las Vegas last week.

The first item of interest was a very clean Bentley Continental wearing a subtle body kit that mimics the more powerful Super Sports model. The other cool car in the Eneos display was a triple black kitted Ferrari F-430 . Starting off with a flat black finish the Ferrari rode on a set of matching matte black mesh rims that gave us a good look at the braking hardware underneath. However one of the nicest touches on the mid engine prancing horse were a pair of Scuderia inspired glossy black striped running the entire length of the vehicle.

When you usually hear the name ASMA, you tend to think of over the top highly tuned Mercedes Benz models like the SLR super car, but this time the German design studio has moved their attention over to the even more illustrious Bentley Continental . However the more that things change, the more they stay the same, so just like the Perfectus SLR , the Ventus was also built for a wealthy Saudi politician.

ASMA Design modified every aspect of the Continental, and as you can see the final product still has a bit of work that needs to get done before they can complete the transformation. On the outside ASMA has added new front and rear bumpers to give the Ventus a distinct appearance as well as a wide body kit to give the car a much more aggressive stance. Rounding out the exterior modifications are a new downforce enhancing rear wing and diffuser, while the Continental now rides around on a set of 22 inch rims that were painted black to match the exterior. What is left to be sorted out are the seats and steering wheel which still need a few final touches.

Not ones to stand for all show and no go, ASMA Design also massaged the engine in order to raise the Bentley ’s maximum output of the 6.0 Liter W12 power plant from 560 HP all the way up to 644 HP, while at the same time the two door super car’s top speed has been increased to 201 MPH.

In another installment of racing legend Derek Bell keeping Bentley enthusiasts around the world informed about the new lightweight Continental Supersport with a lap around the Nürburgring race track in Germany. The English coach builder has announced that the first deliveries of the new Continental Supersports will begin later on this month. Mr. Bell is famous for his in car commentary, even while moving along at 200 MPH. The crew from Crewe claim that the new 204 MPH luxury sports coupe is the most extreme Bentley road car ever produced by W.O.’s car company.

Aside from being able to cruise around at over 200 MPH in style and comfort, but the Supersports is also capable of running on E85 biofuel and represents a step forward and most of all Bentley’s commitment to alternative fuels and they ensure that their entire lineup will be capable of burning up to 85% ethanol by the year 2012. The new Continental Supersports is slated to be on sale in most markets around the world by the year’s end. A few of the first batch of Bentley super cars have already been spotted , but we won’t be seeing too many of them here in the U.S. filling up at an E85 pump until the middle of 2010, just in time for the good old summer hike in gas prices.

After being unveiled back at the Geneva Motor Show, the Bentley Continental Supersports has just recently been seen driving around the streets in real life. From the looks of these snapshots, the factory tuned Continental is being driven by a proper Bentley boy judging from the U.K. license plate. This particular example is covered in a flat grey finish that is complimented by the car’s glossy black wheels.

When they built the Supersports Bentley created their most powerful car ever by tweaking the turbocharged 6.0 Liter W12 and finding an additional 21 HP over the GT Speed edition, raising the car’s maximum output all the way up to 621 HP. This much power is good enough to make the Supersports acelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in just 3.7 seconds, pass the 100 MPH mark after 8.9 seconds and eventualy reach a top speed of 204 MPH.

The Supersports’ speed doesn’t just come from the newfound power, but from a series of weight reductions as well. Much of the standard Continental ’s interior has been replaced with units made from lightweight carbon fiber composite material. The rear seats were removed, making the Supersports a true two seater sports car and the racecar theme continues with the carbon fiber racing buckets up front. Bentley says the car is now 243 lbs lighter then the Continental GT Speed , their previous factory tuned power house, meaning that the Supersports has lost about four percent of the car’s total mass.

Time and time again the old adage that “you can’t buy taste” is all too evident in the world of high end customizing, and while the Beatles used to sing “Can’t buy me love” it appears that English Premier League soccer star Stephen Ireland is trying to dispel that with his girlfriend Jessica Lawlor’s 24th birthday present, an extensively modified Bentley Continental GTC. He got the idea after Jessica jokingly suggested that he get her something in the style of Pimp-My-Ride to match Stephen’s blue accented Audi R8. The 23 year old midfielder kept the entire ordeal a secret from almost everyone, especially Jessica who was simply stunned when she received her gift.

The modified 200 MPH drop top is full of special details that make this Bentley truly unique. Stephen had the flying B on the hood of the car replaced with a J and even the two tone deep dished rims have Jessica’s initials panted on them. On the inside Stephen went the extra step and had an oversized heart stitched into the red headrest with the message “To Jess Love From Stephen” monogrammed inside. Despite the extreme lack of a taste and absence of style, Jessica is absolutely delighted with her birthday gift, after all what 24 year old female wouldn’t.

Although the Bentley Continental GTC underwent £264,000 worth of modifications, the mighty 6.0 Liter W12 was left alone and still produces a maximum output of 552 HP and is capable of accelerating the all wheel drive grand touring car from 0 to 60 MPH in just 4.8 seconds and keep on going all the way up to a top speed of 198 MPH.

In 1961 Bentley’s first official styling department was established in Crewe by the gifted John Blatchley. It was the place where the 1950s Bentley Continental Bentley Continental s models were designed. To honor the year, Bentley will unveil at the Frankfurt Motor Show a special edition Continental GT and GTC.

Bentley Continental Series 51

The new Continental Series 51 model will feature a highly-distinctive interior color palette and unique exterior design cues. The GTC version displayed in Frankfurt will feature a Imperial Blue as a main and secondary hide, Linen seat and door inserts and Newmarket Tan as the accent color.

Both GT and GTC version will feature 20” 14-spoke polished Diamond wheel with a dark centre cap provides Series 51 cars with a purposeful and stylish appearance. The cars will be further distinguished by a signature ‘51’ badge on the front wings.

The British coach builder Bentley Motors had a few surprises in store for the crowd at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit when they presented the all new Bentley Mulsanne and ’Series 51’ designer edition Continental GTC convertible. The first new car show of the season marks the North American car show debut for the 51 that was previewed in Frankfurt and is still wowing audiences on this side of the pond with its unique persona due to the infinite configuration combination that are available through Bentley’s extensive color and trim catalog that promises to make owners feel unique. Form the looks of things both new cars are sure to be hit here in the U.S.

The Le Mans racing legend and honorary Bentley Boy, Derek Bell, got behind the wheel of the new Bentley Continental Supersport at the GoodWood Festival of Speed just a few week ago and from the looks of things, he enjoyed ever minute of it.

The all new Bentley Continental Supersport is powered by a 6.0 Liter W12 twin-turbocharged engine that can run on E85 gasoline if needed, and produces 621 HP, that is up 21 HP from the Continental GT Speed edition. With this amount of power the Supersports Bentley can go from 0 to 60 MPH in just 3.7 seconds, hit 100 MPH in 8.9 seconds and can reach a top speed of 204 MPH.
