As goes the X5, so goes the X6. A couple of weeks ago we saw a preview video of the X5 M edition, and now BMW has release a similarly styled video with a thinly veiled X6 M . The video noted that the car will have a V8 engine with two turbochargers, which just backs up our suspicions of the 500+ hp 4.4-liter twin turbo powerplant making an appearance in this car/truck.
The BMW X6 is a four-passenger luxury crossover or "sports activity coupe" as BMW likes to call it. It went on sale in the second quarter of 2008 with a promise of combining the benefits of an SUV and a coupe into one convenient little package. The current X6 is powered by a plethora of engine options. The first is a 3.0L twin turbo engine producing 300/320hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. The second engine is a 4.4L twin turbo V8 delivering 400/440hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. The 4.4L V8/electric hybrid option pushes out 480 net ho and 575 net lb-ft of torque, while on the opposite side of the spectrum is the 4.4L twin turbo V8 that gets 555hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. These engines are mated to a six-speed automatic, continuously variable transmission.
The BMW X6 is trying to blur the line between car and truck, so we’re not always in the X6’s corner. But because this is BMW, there’s always a hotter version on the horizon. With an M version of the X6, we may learn to like this awkward car/truck a little more.
The X6 M features a more aggressive design with quad exhaust pipes and larger air intakes. Now that BMW is dropping V10 engines from its ‘M’ cars , a turbocharged version of the 4.4-liter V8 seems like the best candidate for this car. We expect performance of at least 500 hp.
We’re not a big fan of the looks of the BMW X6 . The high center of gravity of an SUV combined with the roominess of a sedan just seems like taking the worst of both ideas. But regardless of the looks, its still a BMW. This means of all the crossover vehicles, this will is one of the sportiest.
Tuner MC Chip seems to agree. It’s focused its attention on making the X6 a better all-around performer with engine and handling upgrades. The BMW X6 White Shark takes the 3.0-liter turbo engine and upgrades it to 340 hp (up from 286 hp). The X6 White Shark comes with a set of H&R lowering springs that lower the ride height by 40/30 mm. Also MC Chip will paint the X6’s standard 20-inch wheels black. The price for the BMW X6 White Shark power boost software is $1,160, the lowering kit, plus the optics pack, costs $1,730.
After we saw the Lumma-Design CLR 550 R based on the Porsche Cayenne GTS, the German tuner went to work on another SUV with an identity crisis, the BMW X6 . The result is the CLR X 650. The new vehicle comes with a redesigned front bumper with integrated daytime running LEDs, new mirror covers, a rear lip carbon spoiler, and a new rear bumper with integrated exhaust cutters and rear air diffuser.
The kit also includes 23-inch Lumma Racing 3 alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin 315/25-23 tires on the front and rear. Also the 4.4-liter V8 engine received some attention but unfortunately the manufacturer released no data about the upgrade.
Press release after the jump.
Last week we saw the Hamann Volcano based on the Mercedes SLR, but this week the customizing house showed us something a little more tame. It took a BMW X6 and gave it a new front bumper (with integrated daytime running LEDs), a new hood painted in black with new air inlets , new side sills, a rear roof spoiler, a new trunk spoiler, and a new redesigned rear bumper with 4-pipe exhaust system. Also a new set of 23-inch Design Edition Race Anodized alloy wheels were added.
Hamann also is improving the car’s performance numbers by taking the 3.5-liter twin turbo V6 and boosting it from 300 hp to 360 hp.
Full details in the press release after the jump.
The new aerodynamics package of the vehicle features a front bumper with repositioned fog lamps, new side sills, a rear roof spoiler and a re-designed rear bumper with integrated exhaust system. Under the hood, the 30d and 35d diesel engines (not available in the U.S.) were boosted to 235 hp and 310 hp respectively.

Last month we started bringing you information on BMW working on a hybrid version of the X6 SUV . Today is time to get a little bit closer to X6 Active Hybrid. Latest spy shots caught it testing in Germany with a big (nasty) scoop on the hood. Lets just hope BMW will drop it from the production version.
Set to be revealed at the beginning of 2009 the X6 Active Hybrid will come with a two-mode hybrid system that features two electric motors housed in the hybrid transmission. This transmission means the X6 can run on electric power only. It also allows start-stop running in traffic, boosts the engine under acceleration and recovers energy under braking.
Among the big German tuners, AC Schnitzer was the only tuner who didn’t unveil its customization programme for the Bmw X6 . Well today the waiting is over, here is the X6 by AC Schnitzer. The new vehicle features a completely re-designed front bumper with new larger air vents, new side sills and a rear bumper with integrated air diffuser and exhaust system. Also new custom 22 inch wheels were added.
At the interior the car features a new custom sport steering wheel. New carbon fiber insertions, velour mats and aluminium sport pedals. More details when the official details will be released!
As this latest spy shots prove, BMW will bring a M-version for its latest X6 SUV , but rumors say it will not carry an "M" name.
The X6 M feature a more aggressive design, with a modified front fascia with clearly larger air intakes, quad exhaust pipes.
Under the hood there will be a Biturbo 4,4-Liter-V8 engine, the same power unit that the new high-spec X5 is set to receive.
