BMW 120i “Performance Unlimited” coupe for Japan

After the release of BMW’s "Dynamic Edition" for the BMW 3-series and the X6 Performance Limited Edition, BMW has taken a stab at the BMW 120i Coupe. Destined only for the Japanese market, the BMW 120i will be a special edition limited to only 30 units.

For the "Dynamic Edition", the 120i will receive an M sport package including a blacked-out kidney grille, carbon mirror covers, a carbon rear trunk spoiler, and a set of M design 18" light alloy wheels. Exterior paint finishes will be available in White Pearl or LeMans Blue. Inside, the BMW will receive M sports seats and steering wheel covered in leather. The interior will also get aluminum pedals and handles and sporty and gloss black trims.

No performance upgrades will be made to the BMW 120i coupe so customers will have to be satisfied with the 2.0L engine that produces 170hp.

The BMW 120i Coupe will go on sale on July 30th for a price of 4,350,000 YEN, or 50,000 USD, but remember, this special edition will be limited to the Japanese market.

2010 BMW 135i "The Final One" by WSTO

WheelSTO has unveiled a new tuning package for the BMW 135i. Called "The Final One", this project was developed in cooperation with 3D Design Japan, Lager Corporation, Studie Japan, and Berk Technology and is the final tuning project that WSTO will provide for the BMW 135i.

The Final One is equipped with Formula Silver racing wheels, size 18 x 8 +45 in the front and 18 x 9 +50 in the rear and 225/40 and 255/35 Vredestein tires. The engine modifications were kept basic. The tuner used an aFe intake kit with a synapse blow off valve kit with charge pipe to keep the N54 breathing. They also used a Macht Schnell air scoop to help force air into the engine.

The exterior gets a 3D Design urethane front lip, 3D Design trunk spoiler, 3D Design Gauge pod, Pivot Gauges, and the BMW Performance shadow grills. For the interior WSTO added a 3D Design gauge pod ashtray retrofit, 3D Design aluminum sport pedals, and 3D Design floor mats.

2010 BMW 118d Coupe

bmw 118d coupe picture

Given the modest price tag – only about $37,100 - and the diesel engine variant that the Euro only 118d coupe comes in, the competition of this car is slim pickings, to say the least. Other than Volkswagen’s very own 2.0 TDI Scirocco, you won’t find any other car out on the market that can combine the power, value, and prestige of a BMW 118d Coupe. The most important question to ask when you’re in the market for a car in the range of a BMW 1-Series is exactly how much value are you going to get for your buck?

First of all, you can’t disillusion yourself into thinking that the 118d packs the same power and speed as most of its higher-echelon brethren. But that’s not to say that the car doesn’t come with the same high-level performance that is standard with BMW. For starters, the car’s 141hp rear wheel 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine played a key part in the 118d winning the World Green Car of the Year 2008 Award. There’s also a useful amount of torque to go around and while its 0-60mph time of 9 seconds is uncharacteristic of BMW, the car’s U.S.-converted 57.8 mpg, which Autocar measured in its test run, is right on the same plane as that of the Toyota Prius, which comes in at 60.3 mpg.

Although it may sound as nitpicking, one thing that we noticed about the 118d’s engine was that it was louder than usual – a mild irritant that we’re sure will pass as soon as you get used to it. After all, for this price tag, you’ll take all of the whips and whistles that come along with it.

Full review after the jump.
