2011 BMW 1-Series Facebook Special Edition


The world has fallen in love with the ease of the social network, and now even automakers are turning to the popular form of communication to direct their next vehicle design. We’ve already heard about the 911 GT3 R Hybrid Facebook Edition that Porsche unveiled once they reached their 1,000,000th fan on Facebook, but now BMW is one-upping their German auto brother by using the site to create a special edition 1-Series . The new 1-Series special edition will be designed by young BMW designers and will take on whatever look is chosen by BMW fans.

BMW has provided 16 combinations to choose from on their Facebook page, and the winner will make it to production with the help of 3M wrap specialists who will don the special design on the car. As for the more mechanical aspect of the Beamer, the special edition 1-series will receive the same two 4-cylinder diesel engines with 122 or 143 HP, as well as a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine with 230 HP option. The 135i model has a twin-scroll turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine that delivers a total of 300 HP and 300 lbs-ft of torque.

It’s kind of cool that BMW is entrusting its fans with this type of makeover for their small family car. The only thing we have a problem with is that the special edition 1-series will only be available on the Italian market. Who dropped the ball on that decision?

Cool! I like the combination of black, blue and white colors of this car. The overall design is great and impressive, considering its concept is a social media site.

This is absolutely a "WOW"! It really looks cool on its graphics and even on its matte body paint! I just don’t like the fact that it is one of those unreliable vehicles today!

I’ve seen this concept before on Porsche and the design is more detailed on that one. On this version of BMW, I don’t see any relevance of Facebook here. It is printed white and blue design here?

Its not a bad idea to thank their million fans worldwide to continuous purchasing their car. However, I would be happy if they come up with their original idea.

This idea is not so unique for the Porsche originally think about this to show their appreciation on their fans world wide! Everyone is happy about this production and went personally to see their name printed on the car.

It seems that there is really nothing much to it other than the color options. Except that, you really just have all the standard options for the 1-Series.

Probably one of the strangest special editions that I have seen. OK, we can’t deny that Facebook is really big right now, but I still don’t get the point of this. But I do agree that being able to choose from sixteen different options is rather nice.

Looks like a german thing! After Porsche, now BMW! 3 left... Mercedes, Audi and Opel smiley I’m betting Opel will not fall into this crappy idea, but Mercedes might!

We cannot deny the growing popularity of social networking like facebook. And I think it was one of the most effective tool to get in touch with their fans. And as a fan, it make me feel that i was part of something..which is a good thing!

yeah, i have heard about the Porsche facebook edition..smiley.And so, bad I didn’t see my name. And i think i need to see it personally to check my name..hehe. And now, BMW came up with the same concept but different strategy. Wow! that was cool! Let me try it.
