A few months ago, BMW->ke178 unveiled a 30-piece limited edition BMW M3->ke2366 Coupe dressed up in a Frozen Gray finish. We all know how that car turned out – all 30 models sold out in just 12 minutes. What we didn’t know, at least at that time, was that the Frozen Gray M3 would be spawning a brother in the Netherlands called the M3 Frozen Gray Track Edition.

Details behind how many units this particular model is going to have is still unknown at this point, but what we do know is that it will be dressed up in the same matte Frozen Gray paint finish the M3 Coupe came with.

In any case, whatever questions or queries we may have about this car will be answered at the time of the AutoRai show in the Amsterdam, from April 13th to 23rd where the car is expected to make it's official debut. One thing we do know is that this car will be exclusively sold in the Netherlands, which means that if we're in any other part of the world, scooping one up is going to be a little harder than we would have liked.

Exterior and Interior

Similar to the Frost Gray M3 Coupe that was unveiled months ago, the M3 Frost Gray Track Edition comes with the same matte frost gray paint finish, as well as black exterior details, carbon mirror caps, a splitter, 19" black alloy rims, and the M-drivers pack. Likewise, an M Performance exhaust, some carbon fiber parts and red calipers are also outfitted to the German sports car. Given that it has the same paint finish as the Frost Gray M3 Coupe, we wouldn't be surprised if this particular version also comes with a 'paint agreement' from BMW.

The interior color of the M3 Track Edition has been setup with a Novillo Schwarz combination dressed with specific accents and a black leather interior with red stitching.

Performance

The BMW M3 Track Edition will receive the M3 Competition Package, which means that it will come with a 4.0-liter V8 engine that produces 420 horsepower out of its rear wheels and 420 Nm of torque that’s mated to a standard six-speed manual transmission or, as an option, an M dual-clutch transmission. Each of the new M3s, including this one, will also receive a Star-Stop system, thereby cutting the average fuel consumption and lowering CO2 emissions by 24 g/km.

Pricing

The 2011 BMW M3 Frozen Gray Track Edition has yet to be given a price tag, but the Coupe version sold out like hotcakes for $77,600 a piece in the short time that it was available. We say short time because all 30 models sold out in just 12 minutes. Yep, 12 minutes. If the price of the Frozen Gray version is anywhere near that of the Track Edition, then you can expect the latter to come with the same price tag of somewhere in the neighborhood of $80,000, or around €60,000.

Competition

The competition in the sports coupe market is not for the weak of heart as the M3 Coupe has its fair share of rivals in the segment, including the Audi RS5->ke2628, the Cadillac CTS-V Coupe->ke1200, and the new Mercedes C-Class Coupe->ke1593 that's expected to have its own AMG version.

The CTS-V sports coupe is actually a tad more powerful than the M3 Coupe, thanks to its V8 engine producing 556 HP and a sprint from 0 to 60 mph made in 3.9 seconds.

Meanwhile, BMW's cross-town rival, Audi, also has the RS5 to ram heads with the M3 Coupe. Both cars have pretty much the same performance figures, although the RS5 boasts of a turbocharged V8 engine compared to the standard V8 that the M3 Coupe comes in. For some, that might not mean much. But for others, that's a world of difference.
