2011 BMW M3 Pickup

Well speaking of jokesters and pranks, so far the best April Fool’s joke comes from BMW with their new M3 - the world’s fastest pickup. A prototype was "caught testing" recently and BMW couldn’t even hold out until April 1st before they confirmed that it was indeed just a prank. But staying true to their powers of pranking, the German automaker still released full details on their new M3 pick-up.

The M3 Pick-up is powered by a V8 engine and features a generously sized load area in the back and a removable Targa roof. The pick-up, which is only 110 lbs heavier than the convertible M3, offers a maximum load capacity of 992 lbs. The best part? The M3 pickup can hit a top speed of 186 mph (as a reminder, all of the other M3 models are limited to 155 mph).

The official BMW statement states: "the BMW M3 Pickup will not be heading for the golf course or series development, but will retain its status as an exclusive one-off. It is earmarked for use as a workshop transport vehicle for BMW M GmbH. With this in mind, the current BMW M3 Pickup – unlike a similar predecessor built back in the 1980s – has gone through the requisite procedures to earn its road certification. Which makes it officially a truck – but one that puts a whole new spin on the meaning of the word."

The idea behind this is absolutely fascinating and just the sheer curiosity of it all would have made this the best April Fool’s joke ever, had BMW lasted long enough to make it to April 1st.

Wow! I’m so amazed with this, and I can say that BMW has the cutest and elegant pickup car for today! Well, I never thought that they could produce a vehicle like this, very stunning and awesome!

This M3 Pickup really looks so cool on its platform and with its very neat appearance. I’m also glad that BMW used an impressive and an efficient engine specification for this truck.

BM3 M3 Pickup is one of the most sensational trucks that I saw nowadays! Congratulations smiley well, for sure, on its simple but stunning appearance it will surely can captivate lots of attention.

What a cute pickup car! smiley The removable targa roof really impressed me a lot, I must say that this is the first versatile pickup car that I saw nowadays, and I’m so impressed with its powerful engine even on its hygienic body paint.

Hehehe! It has been almost two months since I saw this, but I still can’t get over it. Imagine that, if this one was true, it would be useful if you have this one at home.

Well, its a good thing it was a joke but I have read that joke is 90% truesmiley

If ever i don’t like the concept of this car. I really won’t to see this car hold any golf equipment.

somehow BMW has remained to have some dignity and not run by red necks that would drive a pick up, thank is exactly why they are calling this a joke they’ll leave that up to ford and cheve to sell invicil cars

Not a bad idea after all! I think for a change, why don’t the BMW make a truck version since they are already long in the industry of the car making why not try make new conceptsmiley

hmm. Why not? I think this car looks good and the concept is not that hideous! I agree that who knows that one of this day we could see this car in the road.

Maybe this one would have been an even better practical joke if BMW actually built a mockup of the car and not just made pictures. That would really make more people fall for it.

Thank goodness that April Fools is finally over. I thought I would be in for another round of joke cars coming in from BMW, though I really like the idea on this one.

haha. I would say that BMW is the prank master! BTW, it seems that this joke would be a real production in the future since BMW has said that they will retain this car. Who knows on of this days we actually see this car running in the road.

Yeah, this one is definitely one heck of an April fool’s joke that they had. I nearly believed it, until I realized that the M3 is too small to be converted into a pickup.

Well, it would be a good idea if BMW actually makes this a yearly tradition. But they would surely have a hard time competing with other companies’ pranks.

Yeah, this could have been a winner for joke of the year. Maybe the guys at BMW’s design department were just too giggly when they did this and it blew their cover.

See! This prankster would be a long a month celebration. How I hope there is a competition for a big joke production, I bet this one would be the big winner!haha

Man, thi duped a lot of folks into thinking that there is indeed going to be an M3 pickup. Too bad the guys at BMW can’t hold off the laughs until April 1.

The M3 pickup is indeed just one crazy joke. It even looked like an ugly Photoshop work on this one. Really neat one BMW.
