2012 BMW X6M

Posted on by + 11

With the 2012 BMW X6 well on its way to a refreshing change, our spy photographers have captured what seems to be an odd looking X6M version lapping the Nurburgring. The body is clearly an X6M , but if you take a look at the air scoop on the hood, you’ll notice that it has been changed up a bit to allow for more airflow. This leaves us with some rather interesting choices as to what can be hiding underneath the hood.

For starters, it could be a high powered version of the twin-turbo V8 typically found in the X6M, but it could also be the rumored tri-turbo high-power diesel engine. If it’s the latter, then that would make this a test mule for the BMW X6 xDrive 55dM (name not official). Insiders at BMW have said that the tri-turbo diesel engine would appear in the facelifted X6 first, followed by an appearance in the 5-Series line as the M550dX. Whichever model gets priority over this engine, it is said to develop around 500 plus horsepower (between 500hp and 540 hp) and a torque north of 650 lb-ft., which would explain the adjusted scoop and increased air flow.

UPDATE 12/02/2011: BMW has unveiled the first teaser video of their upcoming facelift X6 M equipped with the company’s brand new tri-turbo 3.0-liter diesel engine. The video is called “A new chapter powered by M. Step 1," which can only mean that the official debut is getting closer!

UPDATE 12/15/2011: BMW has unveiled a new teaser video for the upcoming X6 M. Called "A new chapter powered by M. Step 2," the new video features Brian Watts - BMW M GmbH Head of Global Sales and Marketing - who describes the car as follow: "This is a new kind of car. On every road, you feel like you’re on a race track."

We’ll continue to stay abreast of this mystery and get back with official details as soon as they become available.

Yeah! I have to agree that it looks more like a police vehicle because on the design on its front hood. Moreover, I’m still looking forward to seeing other close-up pictures of this BMW.

I have to agree with you rado guissepe. It really looks more a police vehicle on that. Moreover, I’m so impressed with the simplicity of this one. I just only hope that its engine is truly good enough on it.

It looks more like a police vehicle on that graphics! smiley Anyway, I would admit that I’m also amazed with the looks of this BMW. I just only hope that the engine of it is already quite good on this.

Sorry to say but unlike you guys, I didn’t see this one having an odd design just like what you said. Anyway, I admit that I am also impressed with the fact that it is still so reliable on the road and very practical to use in everyday transportation.

It seems so fast on that video, and it really amazed me! Well, if that speed is truly and no camera trick, I must say that it is absolutely the best choice for a sporty sedan than with the other vehicles. smiley

It is really a refreshing change for this BMW X6M, and it looks more attractive now than before. Good thing as well that it is on a tri-turbo diesel engine which could truly give on it a great figure performance.

It looks so aggressive on its graphic design on its front hood; that’s why it is still a refreshing change on this SUV. Good thing as well that it has an impressive and efficient engine specification.

Refreshing and very odd looking car, guess it is more about dealing on its engine components and now more of a develop and enhanced car.

Since it is the first version of X6M, expect a V8 engine. Although BMW allows a bigger airflow, it is not advisable to use a dual turbo engine. They must first test if the car can handle a V8 engine before putting up a more powerful one.

The deliver power is kind of powerful. However, I still wonder on what will be the figure performance of the x6.

Well, I have to say that the speed performance of the vehicle is kind of impressive as well as the styling. And it seems that the twin turbo helps the car to boost its speed performance.
