2012 BMW Z4 sDrive28i


Just as BMW promised back in February, they have arrived at the 2011 New York Auto Show with the return of a 4-cylinder engine to the US line-up. The first vehicle to benefit from this new engine is the Z4 sDrive28i. This new model will go on sale this fall and will replace the Z4 sDrive30i (pictured).

The new 4-cylinder engine delivers a total of 240 HP at 5,000 rpm and a peak torque of 260 lb-ft at only 1,250 rpm. This power will allow 30% more torque than the inline-six engine and achieves 1,500 rpm earlier.

The 4-cylinder engine features an all-aluminum crankcase and is lighter and more compact than a 6-cylinder engine. The turbocharger is a twin-scroll system. The exhaust streams out in two separate pairs of cylinders, flowing through the exhaust manifold and the turbocharger, then circulating to the turbine wheel.

The new Z4 sDrive28i will be offered with an eight speed automatic transmission and will offer a fuel efficiency gain of approximately 20% over the naturally aspirated engine it replaces.

Z4 really looks awesome on its aesthetic design, and it looks more elegant on that car lines. It’s just only disappointing to be noticed that it has 240 horsepower, which is too weak.

Hmm, for a standard road car, it is really surprising that they were able to pack in a lot of features here. It looks like you only need to work on this one a little to get it to racing specs.

Yes, this one is the same car. Though the big difference with that version is that they have upgraded everything to race specifications.

Hey, this one is the same Z4 that they have used as a race car right? Well, the specs here isn’t too far away from the race car, so it will probably be able to still do a mean sprint.

You’re right, the car already makes it clear that it isn’t going to be any other ride. But Ferraiolo did make a good point with regards to the car here.

Ferraiolo definitely made a rather interesting introduction for the Z4. But come to think of it, this one doesn’t that much introduction at all, considering that it already has an outstanding performance.

Are they sure that this is a sportscar? For a engine performance like that i could bravely says that its like running a hybrid car.

But it says that this car has been using a 4-cylinder engine, which i think has less power. I been expecting unbelievable power for a sportscar.

It can and should have more power but it seem they are in fear this model will destroy their beloved underpower 6 cylinders turbo model.

Yeah, I’m a bit disappointed with the figure performance. I’m looking for more power though I admit that this car looks so luxurious on roadster.

Talking about the design of this car I would admit that it has a beautiful aesthetic and the roadster? It’s extremely awesome. However, I wasn’t impressed with its performance. 

Well, that one is definitely a good development. The Z4 really needs a bit of a boos, though it is still good as it is now. A lot of fans will surely be happy.
