At the end of 2011, BMW unveiled the new generation 3-Series in sedan version, but left the station wagon out in the cold for a few months after that. Now, after we capturing the car during its testing a few times, BMW has finally dropped the official details on the new 3-Series Station Wagon. As expected, the station wagon version will feature the same design language as the sedan model, albeit with an extended rear for better cargo room, 495 liters of stowage room to be exact. The new 3-Series Station Wagon will be offered in three different versions: 328i, 330d, and 320d, all with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, Auto Start-Stop function, ECO PRO mode, and an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Power will range from 184 HP to 258 HP. BMW will offer Sport Line, Luxury Line, and Modern Line equipment packages, as well as an optional M Sport package which will be available at launch. Exterior and InteriorThe new BMW 3-Series Station Wagon will be offered with the same design language as the standard sedan version, but it will get an added 97 millimeters to the car’s overall length and 50 millimeters to its wheelbase in order to offer extra room for passengers and luggage alike. The car offers an impressive 495 liters of stowage room. The new BMW 3 Series Station Wagon will also benefit from enhanced ride comfort, the availability of the new Sport Line, Luxury Line, and Modern Line equipment packages, and the materials and color concept found in the recently introduced 3 Series Sedan. EngineBMW will offer three different 3-Series Station Wagon models: 328i, 330d, and 320d, all three with the latest BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. The line-up includes a new 245 HP four cylinder petrol unit and a revised 2-liter diesel with 184 HP, plus an optimized six-cylinder diesel producing 258 HP. Depending on the models, the engines will be paired with either a sporty six-speed manual gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels in the four-cylinder models or an innovative eight-speed automatic transmission – fitted as standard in the six-cylinder diesel model. All models will be offered with Auto Start-Stop function, Brake Energy Regeneration, Optimum Shift Indicator, M Sport suspension, or the Adaptive M Sport suspension as an option. PricesPrices for the new BMW 3-Series Station Wagon will be announced at a later date. The best part is that the new model will hit U.S. showrooms in the spring 2013. CompetitionWhen the new model arrives on the US market, it will have plenty of competitors, including models like Audi’s A4 Station Wagon and Cadillac’s CTS Sport Wagon. The CTS model is powered by a 3.6-liter V-6 engine with direct injection and 304 HP, while the A4 will be offered with a choice of six TDI and four gasoline engines with power ranging from 120 HP to 272 HP. Impressive look Three engines to choose from All the latest technologies Takes too long to arrive on the US market 4 comments: BMW 3-Series Station Wagon I am so excited about the promise of this BMW. I am happy that BMW is committed to keeping the 3-series wagon in the US—it is the only standard transmission of any interest available here! I wish that the 5 series wagon were still available in the US market. There is not much out there for those of us interested in driving something other than an SUV!
The performance of this Station Wagon is above average. It’s good that the BMW provided space for cargo, which is important to us with families. We can now be organized to out of town trips.
Sleek and elegant. These are the best words that matches this car. Both the exterior and interior designs are honestly beautiful. If you want to look like you’re living a luxurious life, you must have this one.
