2013 BMW Z2 Roadster

  Review

Rumors about a BMW Z2 Roadster started a very long time ago, but as the time passed, nothing concrete ever materialized on this particular model, leaving us with little to work with in terms of providing good information. Thankfully, that time is over as we have received actual information on the future model.

The BMW Z2 Roadster will be a roadster version of the 1-Series model and will be placed under the Z4, in both performance and price. This new model will target models like the Mazda MX-5 Miata.

The BMW Z2 will be built on the same platform as the next generation 1-Series and will weigh less than 1,000 kg (2,200 lbs). It will be offered with a range of four-cylinders, with the top version going up to 250 HP. There are rumors about a hybrid version, but an electric version is also being taken under consideration.

The first prototypes have already been caught testing on public roads in California, so expect an official debut in late 2013. However, a concept version has already been rumored for a debut in 2012, most likely at the Paris Auto Show. Prices will start at around $30,000.

UPDATE 06/17/2011: The British magazine CAR has revealed new details on the upcoming Z2 roadster. According to them, the Z2 will be exclusively an soft-top roadster and it won’t definitely be a fwd model, so previous rumors were true. Possibilities includes a modified rear-wheel drive matrix BMW or a new 4wd platform. Under the hood there will be a turbocharged engine, with power ranging from 170 to 272bhp depending on the model.

Hit the jump to read more about the BMW Z2 Roadster.

Exterior and Interior

The future BMW Z2 will be built on the same platform as the next generation 1-Series. This will make it about 10 inches shorter than its bigger brother, the Z4. The exterior design will be inspired by the future 1-Series, but will be a bit sportier, making it similar to the Z4.

The BMW Z2 seems to have a soft top that is going to be manually operated which is certainly unexpected in the world of technological know-how, but we have heard that a motorized top may be in the works as an option.

The Engine

The next BMW Z2 will be offered with a range of four-cylinders, with a capacity not bigger than 2,000 cc. A turbocharged version will increase the output to 250 HP, while the entry level models will start at 120hp. The top versions will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in less than 7 seconds, while top speed will be in the 150 mph area.

Being a model built under the Project i umbrella and the BMW’s EfficientDynamics program, we expect to not only see an all-electric version, but a hybrid version as well.

The Competition

Rumors say that the future Z2 will target models like the Mazda MX-5 Miata, but we certainly do not see the possibility of the Mazda overtaking this roadster. The Mazda MX-5 Miata is a heavier model with a lot less power under its bloated hood. However, the machine set to power the Z2 is still not 100% known so we can’t be sure exactly which vehicle will be set to take on the Z2.

When Can I Get One?

The first version of the BMW Z2 Roadster will be a concept unveiled in 2012. A production version should follow in 2013. Customers will have to pay around $30,000 for a new BMW Z2.

The engine performance is quite impressive for a convertible car and just like their Z9 Spyder this car is really awesome, and I must agree that even they don’t emphasize the design it is already stunning.

This roadster is so different from the other BMW vehicles! Well, it looks better than the other, but I don’t think that 210 horsepower is only good enough for this.

The exclusivity of this Roadster is what I love the most on it, and it looks more elegant on its car lines. I’m just really hoping that they use a boosted engine on it.

The platform design is simple but very appealing that’s why I simply love this convertible car. Roadster had its own snobbish look despite on having a simple look or image.

The side rim of this Roadster really looks so cool with it! Well, the platform and the other detailing of this car absolutely looks perfect and satisfying for me. I will surely wait for the market production of it.

The market production of this Roadster is too long! Anyway, I think it is worth waiting for because of the fact that it is really a good-looking vehicle. However, I’m not satisfied with its engine.

I love the simplicity of this Roadster, and I also noticed that the mileage on it, only adds more appeal and gives the elegant look of it. Anyway, I wonder if what is the interior feature of it?

Z2 Roadster is absolutely looking so awesome on its simple detailing and styling. However, if the competitor of this convertible is Mazda, I don’t think that it will stand out, for the fact that Mazda cars really had a very striking exterior detailing.

I love the side rim of this Roadster even the decency that this car had. It also looks very sophisticated and fabulous on its exterior detailing. Well, I think that this one is so fun to drive with!
